The mouth-blown borosilicate glass is much thinner, lighter, sturdier and more heat-resistant than traditionally manufactured glassware -- and features the slightly different height, thickness and weight you'd expect from handmade goods.
How it Works
While you'd often find borosilicate glass in a science lab, this medical grade glass is much stronger than the traditional 'soda-lime' glass and can be used in everything from drinkware to cookware. Instead of using soda and lime in the processing, small-sized boron oxide particles act as a glue that holds the silicate together much more tightly -- resulting in its increased strength. While soda-lime glass requires thickness to be strong, borosilicate glass can be much thinner, easily resisting high temperature swings and scratching, can be used in the microwave or the dishwasher and will not cloud over time.
Keeps cool drinks cool and hot drinks warm -- to retain the most heat, we recommend pre-heating your glass.
Care
To avoid fracturing the inner layer, please take care when placing ice cubes in the glass -- we recommend putting them in after the liquid. To minimize the possibility of scratches, avoid using metal spoons or placing it in a crowded dishwasher.
