Description
3 oz. Gift boxed. Hand made in Seattle by local potter Eben Gramer. 2008 edition.
----
As a young apprentice with Denmark’s oldest design company, the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain, Eben received a 5 year broad education from the basics of throwing individual pieces on a kick wheel to all the procedures needed for mass-production of just about anything. Besides the practical side of the industry he had mandatory study and schooling in arts and chemistry. He also worked closely with many of the artists of the time, helping them construct their projects such as large murals, statues and fountains.
A few years later Eben accepted a job offer from “Dansk” to start up the production of their brand new dinnerware “Flamestone” which set the trend for years to come.
But Eben decided to join his mother and her family in Denver and immigrated with his wife, Eva and his 1st son to USA in 1958.
Eben initially worked for Coors Porcelain in Golden, Colorado where they produced industrial porcelain and products. He learned to work with quality controls, specifications and tolerances as never before.
But Eben was restless and broke with his ceramic career to become a real estate broker and for over 25 years a custom homebuilder, designing and building more than 250 homes. Several times he established a ceramic studio for a hobby, but never really had the time to use it.
In 1989 Eben and Eva, with their 3 sons married and gone, chose to move to San Diego where Eben worked side by side with Eva for a real estate and property management company, while he set up yet another ceramic workshop and started in earnest to rekindle his long lost love. He was a member and VP of the San Diego Ceramic Artists.
10 years later they were encouraged to join a son living in Bellevue, Washington. They have settled in Redmond and have since been joined by a second son and his family as well.
Eben is now retired and has created a nice ceramic studio where he spends his time experimenting with clays, glazes, forms and shapes.
