It took a little bit of practice... |

...but with this machine I have made the finest shots and lattes... ever. There is lots of power on tap (huge, instant steam!) and the massive heated brew head keeps shots piping hot. The top quality parts, casing, and simple controls make the machine a pleasure to use, and I love the overall design. Mmmmm, shiny! I did have a minor leak and loose wire on unboxing, but Gail talked me through the fix, and now operation is rock solid. A small downside is that the Giotto uses more power than "regular" machines, and generates a fair bit of heat just sitting there. Overall, the Giotto is the finest espresso machine I have owned, and maybe the last machine as well... I get the feeling that it will last a lifetime. Yes it borders n "crazy expensive", there are better values out there, but I've stopped looking.

My previous experience with espresso machines... |

...was pushing a button on a built-in super-automatic. After a trip to Seattle(!) I started to realize that the stuff coming out of my machine could be a lot better. For half the price of replacing my slowly dying built-in machine, I realized I could tear it out of the wall and put a semi-automatic in its place. When the Rocket arrived I began experimenting and realized that decent espresso was not as simple as pushing a button. However, after a couple of months I have begun to understand the variables (the most important one by far is the amount of coffee in the portafilter), and the Rocket's behavior is not one of them. In other words, the machine does exactly the same thing each time, and it does it extremely well. I can't compare it to other models, but a few things of note: 1) if you leave it on, you will hear the pressure stat click every few seconds, which I can't really get used to. 2) the steam output is ridiculously powerful and the pressure control is perfectly adjustable.

...with good crema output and very good texture for foamed milk. The unit is a bit to noisy and bulky though.

...and was looking so forward to making my cappuccino this morning. My machine makes better cappuccino than the ones I had in France.
