History
Now a division of Phillips internationally, Saeco is an Italian-based coffee and espresso machine manufacturer that launched their first fully automatic (AKA superautomatic) espresso machine in 1980. Since then, they have continuously worked to improve the machines they offer -- addressing design, functionality and customer feedback with every new iteration.
While most of their suite of products focuses on superautomatics such as the Odea series, Talea series or the Xelsis, they also manufacture a few excellent entry-level semi-automatic espresso machines like the Aroma and Via Venezia.

Pros & Cons
Based on customer feedback and our own experiences, here's what we like and don't like about this manufacturer:
Pros
- Espresso Specialists - We love that Saeco is focused solely on coffee and espresso, unlike other manufacturers that produce home appliances, of which one division is coffee or espresso machines. They truly specialize and their products and support reflect that.
- Responsive Manufacturing - They seem to initiate 2nd or 3rd manufacturing iteration cycles faster than other manufacturers, so newly released machines that may have manufacturing defects are addressed through warranty and then new versions are introduced to the market.
- Wide Range - Really the widest range of machines available, they have superautomatics that will meet the budgetary considerations of almost everyone.
|
Cons
- Italian Build Quality - Superautomatic machines are more complicated and can occasionally break down during their lifespan, fortunately Saeco has a great dealer network of repair centers in the US. The life of a superautomatic is largely determined by user maintenance: If you take care of it, it will take care of you.
- Casing Design - Some of the models use more plastic in the casing design than we would like, although several of their newer models use stainless steel which is both beautiful and more durable.

Warranty & Repair
Who should you contact for warranty service? Find it in our Equipment Warranty Directory.
Saeco has regional warranty and repair centers throughout the US, so it's likely that you'll be able to find someone relatively close to you to fix your machine. Shops that work on superautos are a little bit harder to come by, but they are available. Post-warranty, parts are readily available and it's easy to keep these machines alive for well into 10 - 15 years (on the outside) if you take good care of them.
Seattle Coffee Gear is a certified warranty and repair center for Saeco, and you will be directed to us when you contact Saeco for warranty service and we're the regionally closest center to you.
