Seattle Coffee Gear: Semi-Automatic Coffee Machines
Want a little control, but don't want to give up the convenience of push-button functionality? Semi-Automatics will give you just the right amount of authority over how your espresso is made. Featuring a boiler, manual portafilter and a switch or lever to perform the extraction and steaming processes, you'll still grind and tamp your espresso (or insert a coffee pod), begin the extraction process and then steam or froth your milk as necessary. Among Semi-Automatics, there are two different types:
- Manual Control: Once you initiate the shot on a manually controlled Semi-Automatic, you will also need to keep watch and stop it once the extraction is complete. This will give you some additional real-time control over the length of your extractions.
- Programmable Doses: These Semi-Automatics allow you to program the extraction switch to turn off after a specific amount of time.
