lynn d asked: Hi! I have the Ascaso Dream that can also be used with the pod adapter portafilter, so I assume this excludes me from being able to successfully use this adapter upgrade kit? I did find an adapter upgrade while you were out of stock in Canada and i looks exactly the same as yours and is 58mm (if one measures the brass fitting carefully)it is in fact 58mm and does not drop into my 57mm portafilter for making regular shots (I don't use the pod portafilter). Also I see the sides on the brass fitting on the adapter do not taper, as neither do they on the one I ordered, and this caused a fitting problem as well. Finally, some people on this site are saying they have the Ascaso Dream that supports pods, but this still worked for them although you advise against it. So many conflicting messages. Advice please? Thanks. Jan 29, 2014

Kamil A: Hi,

there are many versions of Ascaso Dream, so that is the main issue. But this adapter won't fit Ascaso Dream for ONLY pod portafilters. If your machine support both normal and pods, it should be just fine (actually, those are with wrong head and needs this upgrade kit most).
The exact measurement of my upgrade (from here) is 56.7 mm and fit perfectly.
The other issue might be the baskets. You NEED the non-pressurized baskets as the crema-things have wrong height for this upgrade (and again, I have seen one batch of Dreams where one machine had normal baskets and other one pressurized).
Hope this helps.

lynn d: ok so i installed the upgrade into my dream which can take pods or not (we never use the pod portafilter)...we make double shots with the non pressurized basket (because who wants to be a crema poser right?)...BUT the amount of coffee that we can fit into our basket while still being able to tighten the portafilter into place is about 1/2 a basket, ya too little. And the coffee grounds are still super soupy after pulling our shots. any idea what the problem may be? this is very frustrating...i wish i could post pics to this site : ( Feb 3, 2014

David O: For what it's worth, I've installed this adapter kit on my Dream (which also came with the pod adapter kit) and it works great. My understanding was that it was designed for just a person in my situation where I wanted to upgrade to a non-pod system. Hope that helps. Jan 29, 2014

Nicholas C: I saw the video on the SCG youtube and followed Gail's advice with the adapter and so I just ordered it and it fit on without a problem and have been using it since. I think it does work a little better than the one for pods imo. Jan 30, 2014

pier p asked: Does this kit fit my 57mm ascaso group head as an upgrade for the teflon water dispersion plate and stainless shower 2 original parts? The small screw center is the same size. I dont want teflon and want better shower. Thanks Dec 18, 2013

pier p: Ok thanks. I don't think my machine is pod compatible. For info, my portafilter is around 59mm large, double basket 57mm inside and the Teflon part in the group head is made From Bugatti Italy (written on it) around 56.5mm by 7mm with the shower screen precision pressed fit in it (but still 2 distinct parts). I would like the solid brass metal part to replace the Teflon one. What are the precise dimensions ? If it's really 58 mm, the brass part would not fit my machine. Thanks Dec 19, 2013

Lucian G: Yes, but evidently there is a difference in whether or not your machine is a pod capable machine or not. This is only for the non pod machines, supposedly. I have a pod machine, but honestly, I wouldn't know the difference. It still fits the same, and the coffee is great. I think it might touch the grinds a bit more than the non pod machine. Isaac asked: What is the size of this in millimeters? Sep 9, 2013

Cecelia S: The brass adapter is 58mm in diameter. It has a hump that fits snugly up into the brew head. The perimeter is 7 mm thick, which does make the net filter basket space less--but there's still plenty of room for a 14 or even 16 gram double shot in the non-pressurized filter basket. Sep 11, 2013

David O: I wish I could give a specific answer to this. It fits the Ascaso Dream and transformed my shots using a regular portafilter. The regular screen is definitely designed for the use of pods. Sep 19, 2013

lynn d asked: Hi again,
So even though our Dream is versatile in that we can brew with a pod portafilter (never done actually) or the regular non pressurized basket (V the fake crema basket, u know it is! : ) we cannot get the upgraded brewhead to fit properly....COULD it be because our brewhead is made only for pods but accepts somehow the non pressurized double shot basket, but not the upgrade? Would someone mind sending along a pic of their brewhead without the upgrade on it so that I may compare?

Thanks y'all for your patience,

Lynn

A great and necessary upgrade to your Ascaso Dream

While a bit spendy for the size and complexity of the part. It provides an even distribution of water to the grounds and results in noticeably creamier and richer espresso. I'd recommend upgrading this part to anyone interested in making better espresso but keep in mind that you won't be able to use the machine for pods once the upgrade is made.

Installed this on an Ascaso Basic unit I had for about 6 months, never knew the US versions had the pod brew head as I always used freshly ground espresso. Well this brew head upgrade took all of about 2 minutes to install. And it drastically improved the shot immediately.

My friends and I put the Ascaso Basic with brew head upgrade up against the Rancilio Silvia v2 in a espresso shot contest and 7 out of 10 people had the shots in a dead heat.

This is a must for the Basic, Dream, and Arc machines.

Easy to install on the Francis Francis X-1, took a matter of minutes. Stupid pod compatibility meant I never got a good puck or even pressure from the Francis, but this little piece has made the X-1 into a premium quality machine, and I've stopped shopping for a replacement. My only regret is that I did not find this piece long ago. This is a must-have if you have a pod-compatible X-1.

Pros:
Great Taste,Easy To Use

Super easy to install. Takes a philips screwdriver and about one minute and transforms the Ascaso Dream. Others have commented on the improvement in shot quality and once you've installed the kit, you'll never again be tempted to use the pressurised portafilter. It's as good as everyone says. But there's a very interesting side effect. It's generally assumed that once the kit's in place, pods are no longer an option. I discovered that the very opposite's the case. Pod performance with the Versatile machine was never great. Conventional wisdom's always been that you can't have a machine that's good with pods and can pull a good proper shot and I found the Versatile to be fairly ordinary at both tasks. What I discovered was that using the single shot (unpressurised) basket combined with the reduced headroom of the mod allows you to properly clamp the pod tightly in place and force all the water to pass through rather than around it. It's a huge improvement and creates a machine that's truly versatile.

I initially bought the adapter kit because the O ring was stretched out. After reading the other posts it became clear that I was using a head designed for pods which I don't use. The difference is noticeable and yes Ascaso should have included this in the original machine. I would recommend changing this part and enjoy a much better espresso. Good Luck!

Completely transforms the Dream

I was happy with my Ascaso Dream for about 2 years. Then I added this and found out everything I knew was wrong. If you have this machine and aren't using pods, you need this brew head. The pre-installed head really is designed exclusively for use with pods. It'd be nice if this was included originally, but it is definitely worth the upgrade. Installation is quick and easy.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Great Taste

Cons:
Not for pods

An Essential Upgrade

We all know the road to a really good shot of espresso is long and heavily tolled. From the beans to the machines, excellence comes at a price. Those of us that bought Ascaso due to their promise of quality components and performance must consider this purchase simply another necessary expense.

The result truly is a better, more consistent shot of espresso with richer crema. The improved dispersion from the shower head means better extraction (no more craters!), so one can finally put one's grind and tamping skills to the test. It should also be noted what a pleasure it is, after months of cleaning soupy grounds from portafilter, to knock out a relatively dry puck.

In a perfect world, this brew head would have been the factory design with an option for "downgrading" these stylish Ascaso machines for use with the mysterious espresso "pod" and the somewhat sophomoric pressurized basket.

Ultimately this is a small, tho somewhat begrudging price to pay to finally turn your Dream (as the case may be) into a reality.

Richer crema and better distribution through the grounds during brewing, just as advertised. Also, after brewing, the puck will be dry, which was my main gripe about the Dream when I first started using it. Definitely worth the upgrade, though it's unfortunate that the machine didn't come with this brew head standard.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Great Taste, Easy To Clean
