Rick T:The basic answer to your question is yes. I also have hard water and use this filter in my Rancillio Silvia with no issues. I've been using these filters since March 2012 and have wonderful results to date (11/8/2013). My espresso taste awesome and I will continue to purchase these filters for my Rancillio Silvia. Note: You'll also need the adapter to install this filter into the Rancillio Silvia water container. This is a separate item which can be purchased from Seattle Coffee Gear. Recommend changing the filter every 6 months or less depending on how much you use your machine and how hard your water is. I use my Rancillio Silvia daily to make 1 or 2 espresso and change the filter every 6 months. I also follow the maintenance plan to reduce buildup in my machine. Basically I'm extremely happy with my Rancillio Silvia and the Bestcup S Water Filter setup. I wouldn't pour hard water into my dear Rancillio Silvia without this filter and never will. I would continue to use this filter even if I purchase spring water for my Rancillio Silvia. I hope this helpful and I highly recommend this product.Nov 8, 2013
Gerrit A:Yes, the filter will help balance the PH and soften your water. It is important to run neutral PH water and as clean as possible to improve taste and keep your machine clean. You will also not have to descale as often. Alternatively, you can filter water thru a Britta like system or water container and then fill your holding tank of your machine.
We have great water out of our tap so i don't notice much difference in taste but any cheap filter to help keep my machine running as clean as possible is worth it. Also recommend an Auber PID if you don't have one. Best thing i ever added to my Silvia. 100% better results and ease of use.Nov 7, 2013
James N:I use this filter in our Rancilio Silvia because our water, although excellent tasting, does have minerals that leave over time a hard buildup and a brownish/red film. My thought is, I want to help prevent these deposits from forming inside my espresso machine and the qualities of the Bestcup filte will help. Don't forget to order the adapter.Nov 8, 2013
John K:I have used the filter for about 5 months. We live in an area with moderately hard water only. I've only descaled my espresso machine once during the period. Appears to perform as intended. Easy install and hidden inside water reservoir are bonuses.Nov 8, 2013
