The Breville Bottomless Portafilter is designed specifically for the Dual Boiler BES900XL model. It is not interchangeable with other Breville models or other brands that have 58mm brew heads. It does not come with a filter basket. It uses the included selection of filter baskets that came with your original Breville Dual Biler BES900XL purchase.

How Does it Compare? This portafilter is compatible with the Dual Boiler BES900 model and is not compatible with the new Dual Boiler (BES920).

Peter P asked: Is there a triple basket that will work with the Breville Bottomless Portafilter for Dual Boiler BES900XL ?? I tried a triple basket with the regular portafilter and it won't fit and am hoping one will fit in the bottomless one. Also does anyone know if the double spout unscrews from the regular Breville double boiler portafilter.

Thank you.

ian M: Peter,
I have the VST 22g straight sided triple with the bottomless portafilter. It is a tight fit, but it does work just fine. I find myself using the double more often since you have to have the grind dialed in perfectly and I usually have to toss 60 grams of coffee until I get there (wish I would have bought the VST 18g). 10+ years of experience with a double and I get a 9.0 at about 1.5-2 oz at 28 seconds every time with an espro-press (convex).
I never tried to unscrew the double portafilter so I can't help you there. The bottomless is so much more fun, why bother with the double spout?
Good luck!

Teri KStaff: The spout does unscrew (with some force!) from the regular dual spout Breville portafilter. While the triple basket from La Marzocco does fit in the Breville Bottomless, it will only fit if the spring is removed. This means, however, there will be no tension holding the basket in place when you remove it from the brew head so it may stick, and knocking out the puck can be tricky, as you may loose that basket in the trash or your knockbox. If you give it a try, let us know how you like it! Jul 22, 2013

Joshua M: Peter; a triple basket will fit in the bottomless portafilter; also you should be able to get a triple basket into the standard PF, you need to remove the black plastic insert however.

I believe the spouts unscrew, try wrapping a thin screw driver in cloth and putting it through the spouts and then using that leverage to unscrew it.

George B: I am interested in this as well. I have only used the double basket with 16-20gms of coffee per shot.

I DO love my Breville Dual Boiler BES900XL. I upgraded from a reputable single boiler and it makes all of the difference in the world. Plus the feature loaded Breville is and incredible bang for the buck.

Jay T: Don't know about the triple basket as I don't have one, but based on other folks with bottomless portafilters and triple baskets I would expect it to. With the regular double basket you can unscrew the spout, you wind up with a single straight hole on the bottom. Jul 23, 2013

Mark H: Yes to both questions. I use a VST 22g triple with the Bottomless portafilter and it works great. The double spout does unscrew from the standard portafilter. The shaft of a long screwdriver can be used to unscrew it. Jul 22, 2013

David S: The VST ridgeless baskets fit the bottomless portafilter (but not the ridged version). I user the 22 gram version. I don't know if the spout screws off the standard portafilter. Good luck. Jul 22, 2013

MICHAEL B: I haven't found one. It needs to be smaller at the bottom, obviously. Jul 23, 2013

A shopper asked: I have a /B version of the Breville DB and I've heard this only works on the /A version of the DB but not the /B version. Is this true? Jan 17, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
David S: According to Breville's website:

"Not compatible with any BES900XL that has the first four digits of the serial number greater than 1337 (serial number is located in the water tank compartment). This item is also not compatible with BES920XL the Dual Boiler™ or BES980XL the Oracle™. "

The Oracle is a whole new machine, now available in the US. The BES920XL is the replacement for the current Dual Boiler but is not yet available in the US.

Trent T: I'm actually not sure which model I have. I got a factory rebuilt version from SCG in December of 2013.

It did come with the smaller milk jug if that's any indication, and I gather from the internet that the smaller pitcher suggests that it is a B version.

In any case, the bottomless portafilter works very well in my machine.

It also helps a great deal with judging your grind and tamp. I highly recommend it.

Diane M: I don't know the differentiation between A and B as you seem to believe there is (if you're talking about overpressure valve then okay those designations could be feasible). That said, this portafilter works on my Breville Dual Boiler flawlessly. They only make one for the BDB as far as I have seen. Buy it, you won't regret it! Jan 17, 2014

Joshua M: I have the B version as well and I use an A bottomless portafilter every day. The only difference is the flanges on the B portafilter are slightly thicker. They both work you just have to torque this slightly farther to the right Jan 17, 2014

Charles D B: I purchased my new Breville DB in June 2013, so if this is the /B version, the Bottomless Portafilter works just fine. Jan 17, 2014

Walter and Lisa W: I have the dual boiler and it works perfectly - BES900XL. I'm not familiar with "a" or "b" versions. Hope this helps Jan 18, 2014
MICHAEL B: I think it will work on both because it goes off the portafilter size. All the DB have the same sized portafilter. Jan 21, 2014

A shopper asked: Will this bottomless portafilter fit the Brevile BES 920XL ? Feb 12, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: Yes, this Bottomless Portafilter for the Breville Dual Boiler also fits the 920XL. Feb 13, 2014

Thomas B: I bought this item from you and It's generous to say that this works with the 920XL. It leaks when you use it and I had to use the portafilter spring from the portafilter that came with my 920XL. Breville USA told me they are going to release a new version of this that is compatible with the 920XL. I guess you're not technically wrong, but it's not perfect. Mar 31, 2014
Teri KStaff: I appreciate your feedback, Thomas, and I am sorry this wasn't a perfect fit for your Breville 920! I will make sure to caution folks that this bottomless is not an ideal match for machines other than the original 900XL. Apr 2, 2014
A shopper asked: Does this work with the BES860XL?

Thank you!

This was great for the BES900XL, but will not work in the new Dual Boiler (BES920XL), unless you have a way to grind down the arm a bit.

Works great only on "A" model

This is a wonderful tool to dial in your grinder/machine. Works only on the original "A" BES900XL machine. Watch out for spin-outs on the "A" machine. Always clean and dry the portafilter interface.
