Encompassing the strength of a commercial machine in the size of a home-friendly footprint, the Breville Dual Boiler Espresso Machine Refurbished Model uses dual stainless steel boilers for precise temperature and pressure control every time. With electronic PID temperature control the ability to adjust the temperature for different bean roasts and origins are separate from the steam boiler settings. This allows for the right temperature to extract your shot while simultaneously steaming your milk to a frothy, velvety texture with the three-hole, 360-degree swivel steam wand.

This product has been factory refurbished by Breville.

This video may feature a different model year. There may be variations in color, features and included items.

Paul H: Get the extra filter and cleaner now so that you will have them at hand when needed. Time flies, as they say.
I already had a smaller steamer pitcher than the one that came with the machine and I find that one to be more convenient to use. It heats more quickly with ;the smaller volume and I prefer to use it twice than the larger one once.
A knock box is very handy.
A measured shot glass is very helpful in starting to learn the effect of grind, volume and tamping on the outcome.
Some small cloths to keep handy for cleaning, particularly the steam wand after each use.
I really like drinking out double wall clear glass cups. Mine are the Bodum Pavina 8 ounce glasses, which easily fit under the portafilter.
And, of course, a grinder really is essential. I started off using the pressurized portafileter with preground coffee. Shots looked great right away, but didn't develop the flavor that I get with the non-pressurized portafilter.
All this sounds like a lot, but just do it a little at a time. The machine is functional as is.

casey c: It comes with pretty mech everything that is needed. You will like want to get a couple of the cleaning tablets, and water filters extra, just to have them around. You will need to change the water filter about everything 3 months if I recall correctly.
Depending on the type of portafilter that you use and baskets that you want, you my want to look into the naked portafilter handle, and if you need a 21/22 gram'ish basket you will you will want to look into the La Morzocco triple basket, just don't order the portafilter hand from La Morzocco because I believe that it doesn't fit.

Generally, the dose will depend on the coffee that you get. Be sure to a espresso blend or single-origin that will pull well at 18grams. Also, a good grinder.

Have fun with the machine, it has been good for me, and once you figure out the magic spot for texturing the milk, you can make some pretty impressive latte art with it as well.

Pete H: Hi,

Regarding extras:

Knock Box
espresso cups / capaccino cups
replacement water filter cartridges
a couple of more frothing pitchers
shot glasses
scale (optional, though if you weight coffee going in the portafilter and coming out of the machine you can increase the quality of the shots)
cleaning tablets

Many of these things are optional and can wait if money is a challenge.

Now, for the most important thing I can share. The grinder you use is just as important as the espresso machine. The folks at Seattle can help you choose one, though I would suggest getting the best one you can afford.

Michael M: Order the water supply filters for the reservoir, a small cleaning brush for the brew head (to clean off the used grounds) and an extra plastic gasket O-ring for the brew head. If ever needed, other machine parts are available on the Breville website that are not sold by Seattle Coffee. The Espro 'toroid' milk pitcher is great for frothing milk (get the one that is larger than the included pitcher). You will not know how old the machine is. However, Breville's customer service is top-notch and they cover their product's warranty. I would buy this machine again. Jun 26, 2014

Jason D: Water filter tablets and towel for cleaning the steam wand. It includes everything else you'll need and they all work great. Maybe a smaller milk pitcher, if you like that sort of thing (I like very small steaming pitchers, myself, as I never make anything with more than 6-8oz of milk). Otherwise, just make sure you have a good grinder (a given, but worth mentioning).

The year of the machine I can't speak to, however.

Glenn J: At the time I bought my espresso machine, I did not get any extras, but a month or two later, I did get the Breville smart grinder. It was well worth the purchase price, the grinder works well in tandem with the machine, and allows for adjustment of the grind fineness and volume with different coffees. I can't answer the second question, but I've been happy with both the espresso machine and the grinder so far. Jun 26, 2014

JENNIFER H: I'm not sure what year of a machine that my refurbished one is, but it had some updates to it that are only found in the newer version of the model. You shouldn't need any extras (other than cups, etc if you want). The tamper with it has a decent feel - I'd recommend trying it before selecting something new. I went from a heavier, wood handled tamper with my previous machine to the one that came with this. Jun 26, 2014

aram s: I purchased my dual boiler in time for last Xmas and I'm extremely satisfied with it. To answer your questions it comes with everything you need I didn't buy anything else with the machine. The only thing I can say that you may want to buy is filters and cleaning tablets, it comes with a couple of cleaning tablets and a extra filter... So not needed to buy them right away. Hope this helps. Jun 26, 2014

David P: When I bought my machine I went with the Breville Smart Grinder. It has been a wonderful grinder for the price point. I also did not like the built in tamper (far to light) So I purchased a heavier professional tamper. I also needed a knock box. Hope this helps. It is a wonderful machine and has exceeded my expectations. Jun 26, 2014

Roger W: Regarding extra items, I suggest purchasing the Breville Charcoal/Resin Water Filters, and Breville Espresso Cleaning Tablets - Pack of 8. You will not need them immediately, but it is convenient to have them on hand. Regarding the year of the product, I don't know. Mine matches the picture. I am also very happy with it. Jun 26, 2014

jeff M: As far as the year I have no idea. I don't even know what year mine is. The only things that you will need is a good grinder and some fresh coffee. I bought the Breville smart grinder and I also bought a thermometer for frothing the milk and glass coffee cups to watch the shot. Jun 26, 2014

Robert W: I suggest you purchase a good quality burr grinder and, of course, good coffee beans.

For cleaning the machine, you might consider buying some extra water filter cartriges and cleaning tablets.

Aside from that, you shouldn't need anything els.

Jue-Hsien C: Assuming you have a good grinder already, the only thing I can think about is the water filter. It includes only one with the machine. It will need to be replaced periodically. Otherwise, the package comes with all the accessories I need. Jun 26, 2014

David asked: What's the difference between refurb and remanufactured? I have seen this same one listed other places as re manufactured.
Should I expect scratches or wear and tear on this item?
Thanks for the info.

Teri KStaff: I can't speak to the term "remanufactured" from other sites regarding this Breville Dual Boiler, but a description of refurbished for us is included below. Since this machine has had a previous owner and is refurbished by the manufacturer, there can be small scratches or wear and tear. If you are concerned about minor imperfections, I'd recommend a new machine over refurbished, however if you could live with some minor scratches due to a big savings, refurbished is a good way to go! The only other factor to keep in mind is that new machines come with a one year manufacturer warranty, while factory refurbished machines hold a 6 month warranty. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Outlet FAQ
What is a Refurbished Machine?
Generally, it's equipment that was used as a demo model in our retail store or was returned to us or the manufacturer. These machines could have had a fair amount of use.
Our in-house refurbishing team takes the machines apart, rebuilds and replaces parts as needed, repairs, tests and then thoroughly cleanses the equipment.
Refurbished gear will most likely not include the original manufacturer packaging and may not include any non-essential manufacturer-provided accessories. Consumable items included with new equipment (such as water filters or hardness testing strips) will not be included.
Because this equipment is used, there may be aesthetic or cosmetic blemishes that cannot be repaired during refurbishment.

Breville: This equipment is refurbished at Breville's factory and supported by a 6 month warranty directly through them.

an AWESOME update to our aging Barista Express BES860

Review by

We had a factory refurbished Breville Barista Express (BES860XL) for over 4 years, until the brewing water flow meter went kaput (prior to the BES860 we had two other brand espresso machines which lasted only 1 to 2 years), and since repairs cost around $250 we decided it was time for a new machine. Needless to say. based on our experiences, we focused on a new factory refurbished Breville. We are extremely happy with our new factory refurbished BES900XL, Dual Boiler which allows us to create espresso drinks around 2X faster and better than was possible with our retired BES860XL! This refurbished unit came out of the box looking no different than a brand new unit except for one minor scratch on the refuse water tray. We highly recommend his machine over most of the more expensive premium brands. Another bonus is that we were given a free one-year warranty extension over the standard 6 month warranty on Breville factory refurbished machines!

Wonderful machine!

Review by

This machine continues to exceed my expectations. I've owned it for a few months now, and making espresso has become a very pleasurable daily ritual.

The consistency of temperature, and pressure, dual boilers for independent extraction and powerful steaming, clear backlit display, easy clean-up with buttons which are flush with the stainless armature, and a host of other well-thought-out features, make this machine a real pleasure to use. I don't know of any other brand which delivers this many features and quality for the price.

I couldn't be more happy

Review by

This espresso machine is awesome. It allows me to make espresso and cappaccino that is as good as what I get at high end coffee shops.

Also, the steamer wand generates really nice frothed milk.

There is nothing that has been less than satisfactory.

Heaven Sent~!

Review by

The Dual Boiler which I received this week has gone above and beyond my expectations. It really does have all the bells and whistles. Features that I didn't even know I needed like for example; the wheels that you can pop out so you can roll it about on the counter! It's Fantastic!

**Though I must say I did call the 1-800 # to ask if the refurbished units come with a spare water filter to start you off with and she told me NO! I was a little bummed by that because then I had to hurriedly order some... but when the unit arrived I did get a spare filter and 2 cleaning tablets. OIE!
