Kaffeologie S Filter for AeroPress is made of fine mesh stainless steel. It will provide a better tasting AeroPress experience because essential oils will pass through the S filter instead of being trapped in a paper filter. It offers an even extraction with hundreds of holes per square inch. To use place in the AeroPress seam side down, smooth metal edge up. This reusable coffee filter will save money on disposable filters too. A winning combination!

Pros
  • Green is Gold - This filter is reusable, easy to clean and recyclable at the end of its life
  • Maintains Flavor - A metal filter doesn't trap precious coffee oils which results in more robust coffee flavor in the cup
  • Stamped and Ready - The Kaffeologie logo is stamped in the mesh, they do not use toxic chemicals to etch the S Filters
Cons
  • Think Thin - If socks routinely disappear from your dryer, beware, this thin small disk will likely disappear in the depths of overcrowded kitchen drawers too
  • Delicate! - Sure it's metal, but it is not unbreakable, see our tips and tricks to maximize life expectancy

How Does it Compare? The fine mesh S Filter won't let grit through, it will filter smaller particles than any other metal filter and it won't clog.
Tips and Tricks To Use: Please place in the AeroPress seam side down, smooth metal edge up so that the pressure is evenly distributed across the mesh. To Clean: Use one hand in a pinch-style grip with the thumb rubbing along the mesh supported by the fingers.

A shopper asked: Hi, I bought the filter and aeropress from bellevue today. I have problem with tightly combine S filter with Aeropress. It doesn't tightly put together due to thickness and it leaked through. Is there a particular way to put filter properly? Apr 19, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Michael S: I have not had any issues with the S Filter fitting tightly - I purchased mine last year and I think the design has been slightly modified since that time. I think there is now a solid perimeter on both sides of the filter instead of a single side like mine.

From everything I have read on the web the company is very responsive so I would not hesitate to give them a call. The other variable is that the Aeropress could have changed slightly from the version I have, which may inhibit the thicker filter. Does the Aeropress leak when you use the supplied paper filters? How far can you tighten the filter holder onto the press when using S Filter? mine tightens about 1/3 to 1/2 of the total possible travel

Lor Z: I had an older version which fit better. The metal ring was only on one side- it it did not last long.

I find that this one doesn't fit as well, but is sturdier. I fit it in as tightly as possible, and push very slowly (about 15 seconds- which is most ideal anyway). It works fine if you go slow.

Shane L: It is a tight fit. You can put several paper filter until it gets tight and then add a few more filters untill you stretch the cap enough for the metal filter.
If you try and muscle the metal filter you may not get it open.

Jake C: I had the same problem. In using over several months the sceen began to fray and it became more of a hassle than it us was worth. Went back to the paper filters. Apr 19, 2014

John M: I purchased this filter and i just tighten it as much as I can and have not had any leaks. Dont press to hard during the press process. Hope this helps. Apr 21, 2014

Geoffrey G: Strange, I haven't had that problem with mine...it fits snugly, but doesn't leak.

I'd say ask customer support and see what they say!

A shopper asked: Will this fit in the 44 oz Frieling Insulated Coffee Maker French Press? Dec 8, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: No, this S Filter is a flat mesh filter designed to work with the Aeropress. It is not large enough to fit into the 44 oz Frieling Press, nor does it have a hole in the center that would be necessary for the stem of a French Press to pass through. Dec 9, 2013

This thin metal filter is not thin enough to fit the space.
I couldn't close the cap yet... I'm using the paper filters instead.

This lets all the oils out into your cup vs. the paper filters that hold them back. Much better coffee and easy to clean. My AeroPress is complete!

Won't be going back to paper filters anytime soon. Hopefully I won't have any issues with the mesh separating, but so far so good- I've been going strong for about 2 weeks now. I have noticed that there is a small area of the mesh that has (only very slightly) warped, but nothing serious yet.

I wanted to like it but after a limited number of uses (maybe 20 or so) the mesh separated from the ring despite taking great care in washing it. Back to paper.

I will never purchase paper filters again, I highly recommend it. Its easy to clean but the most important its the excellent flavor a little better than the paper filters not much but there is a difference, I also like the paper filters but now I like the metal filter more :) try it believe me youre going to be very happy with this product.

I was expecting a better result but have found that after a week of use that I much prefer a rinsed paper filter simply because my coffee is not as smooth when I use a paper filter.

As a side note, my Kaffeologie S failed this morning, the mesh started to separate from ring, after only four days of proper use and gently rinsing after use. I purchased it directly from Kaffeologie.

Thanks Gail and Kat for your great reviews. I always get a a chuckle watching the YouTube videos but more importance, both of you know coffee. Again, thanks.
