Brad S: Hi Faith,

We have used these daily for two years. They are thinner than the Melitta's and seem to have somewhat less paper-y taste as they come from the box.

That said, if you spent the money on a Technivorm, you really appreciate great coffee and probably won't mind adding an extra 15-20 seconds to your brewing routine. To eliminate all paper-y taste place the filter in the cone and rinse it with hot water once or twice, rinsing the entire filter before filling with grounds and brewing. If you have heated water to warm your thermos of coffee mugs use that, otherwise hot tap water works fine too.

This eliminates all paper taste from the filter and produces unadulterated pure coffee flavor, comparable to the best pour-over from your favorite coffee shop.

A 1:17 ratio (weight) of fresh roasted/ground coffee to water, regular cleaning of the cone, pot lid, carafes and thermoses with Cafiza, and a quarterly run of Grindz through our Baratza (with a manual cleaning once a year) keep our household coffee the best tasting brew we, and our guests, have ever tasted. Enjoy!

Adam S: I would say similar to the Melitta, not more, not less. Even rinsing the filters while in the basket you will still get an ever so slight taste. I don't think that the amount reflects on the cup. That said, I am not naive to think that there isn't a difference between these filters (which I would recommend) vs a better filter. Because of these ease of cleanup, I stick with the paper filters. Hope you enjoy. Cheers! Feb 5, 2014

Mark T: Hi Faith!!!

In my opinion, the Technivorm Paper Filters are much more superior than the Melitta filters. I've used Melitta filters in the past but switched over to Technivorm Filters because you will not notice any paper taste as compared to the Melitta's. Don't get me wrong, the Melitta's are a good filter but once you try the Technivorms, you will not try another filter brand.

Christopher N: I have been using technivorum paper filters for 2 1/2 years. I have not noticed a "paper" taste. It seems logical that the paper would absorb some of the oils. However, the technivorum drip coffee maker and paper filters make a great pot of coffee. Feb 4, 2014

E B: I found these filters to be all right but nothing special. I am not familiar with the problem you have had with Melita filters so this answer may not help you. I bought them 2 years ago and have neither used them nor purchased them again since. Feb 4, 2014

M List U: I really like the technivorm paper filters. They are not as thick as the Melitta but still are strong enough for easy clean up. They also allow for more flavor as a result in my opinion. Feb 5, 2014

Chad C: IMO definitely less paper taste. Not as oily as a gold, but a much "cleaner" cup and easy clean up. Feb 5, 2014

Robert asked: I understand white paper filters have bleach in them, why would I want to use them if so? Oct 10, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chad K: Bleach (Chlorine) is not used in modern coffee filter manufacturing. Filters are whitened by use of oxygen cleansing. This also helps dispel the paper flavor you get when using 'natural' brown filters. If you don't like cardboard favored coffee, use oxygenated white filters with confidence. Oct 22, 2013

Bruce R: They don't have bleach in them , they are bleached to their white color (think of why you bleach gym socks). Standard filters are a 'natural' light tan. As to the advantages of tan versus bleached white filters, I don't think there are any other than aesthetics. Oct 11, 2013
Reply to Bruce Good answer? Yes (2) No (1)
Nancy K: I do not know why they have to use bleach, however I have always used them and experienced no harm and the coffee is always good. Oct 11, 2013

Christopher N: I have been using the Technivorm coffee filters for over a year. They work great and I have not noticed any effect on the taste of my coffee.

I believe you are correct that Chlorine is used in the manufacture of white paper. However, there is no chlorine taste or smell to this paper after it is made.

A shopper asked: Do you have to use the Technivorm brand paper filters or can you use other brands such as Melitta? Is there a "fit" problem with another brand? Nov 10, 2013

Evan J: Conversely, is there an advantage to using these Technivorm paper filters in any other coffee maker that takes the similar #4 semi-conical filters? Dec 13, 2013
Reply to Evan Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: No, there is not a real advantage or disadvantage to using these filter just for the Technivorm branding. They will preform the same as any Melita style #4 filters. Dec 13, 2013
Teri KStaff: Nope, you can still use a basic Melitta #4 filter in your Technivorm. Nov 11, 2013

Technivorm's filters lend a new meaning to "Paper thin." Being thinner, they absorb less of the coffee flavor, hence, it ends up in the cup!

The filters produce a great cup of coffee. Great taste and easy to remove when you are done brewing. Why mess with success? You buy good coffee, why not buy great filters? The OEM of Technivorm, too nerdy?

They work great, they came with the gift package you sent with the new Technivorm Moccamaster.
