If a 52mm can fit , that would be great as I'd want majority, if not all surface area to be covered - unlike the tamper we received with our machine (~50mm). May 9, 2013

That's so great to hear! Glad we've been helpful! We really like the Velton's Bonsai and it is a very popular blend for us. It is a nice medium roast with tones of chocolate and a slightly citrus finish. Hope you give it a try and that you like it! Aug 27, 2013

Great machine IF you care for it properlyReview by Seemyspots

I purchased this in Dec 2011 for the great aesthetics and its ability to use both the ESE pods and ground coffee (although I quickly moved away from pods). Mine is orange and I keep it in pristine condition as I display it on my counter next to a Rocky grinder. I've been making four or more quad shots a week since I purchased the machine and I'm happy with it overall. For those reviewers that complained about it steaming (and not from the wand), I recommend cleaning it very carefully as coffee grounds get stuck here quite easily. You'll want to even remove the screen from the top part on the machine (this is where the portafilter basket connects and is attached by a small philips screw) as well as break down the portafilter baskets to clean the individual elements. I perform this type of maintenance on it every 2-4 weeks and it's kept me quite happy with great espresso drinks.

Good quality compact machine, consistent performance.Review by Aaron

I purchased a refurbished Kmix espresso maker last December for $130. This is my third espresso machine, the first being a cheap steamer, the second a Mr. Coffee pump machine.
This Delonghi is finely built; all parts are "solid", the entire exterior is metal and if you tap the side with a knuckle, it's like hitting a metal plate. I went to a little appliance shop that had a few dozen espresso machines, including Gaggia, Saeco, and Rancillo, and the Kmix felt to be higher quality in build than the Gaggias in the price range, on par with Saeco, and perhaps not as fine as Rancillo's cheapest machines (which are still pricier). The bright colored paint is durable, and looks great. My yellow machine has highly polished stainless that can get water spots easily, but a mist with windex and wipe with microfiber cloth shines it well.
I've used the machine to make 10-15 doubles per week for the last 6 months. After each use, I put a glass tray under the head, then clean the head with a toothbrush while letting water pump in to the tray. Then I rotate the portafilter on and off the head while "wiggling" it to half-pressurize and let water "leak" out between the filter and head; this cleans all grounds from the assembly. By doing this, I've never had the issues that other users have reported (re; slow water flow) and the machine has always worked great. Read the directions, keep the head clean by letting the machine pump water while brushing and using the portafilter, and you'll have good luck.
Produces steam quickly, and the steam knob is out of the steam zone, easy to grip, and the wand goes out to the side of the machine; there wasn't much room for cup because the machine is by design quite compact, so I put the machine on a little glass riser and now can put a large frothing cup in place. You can remove the panarello tip and have a straight-steaming tip which allows accurate microfoaming.
I'm young and don't have a larger budget for luxury appliances, so the $130 for a refurb machine was great. I do think it's worth the listed $300, so if you're in the market for a machine in this price range, considering the DeLonghi Kmix. Like most products, if you take care of it, the machine will perform well. As for quality of brew - the machine does its job an produces water at a consistent temperature and pressure. If you do your job with a good grind, the little pressurized filter will make a good shot. Seattle Coffee has non-pressurized filters for the machine if you want to go that route.

Good coffee, great foam and nice looking!Review by axou

Coffee has a great taste and it is not too big. Lot of people seem not to like the steam wand, but i think it works much better than a Jura model i've tried and which costs a lot more. I do have some experience as a barista and I have no problem at all to do foam for a cappuccino or doing a latte with the leaf pattern on top. The only negative point is that you can not put a standard size cup under the machine.

Easy set-up, great shots for a little home machine. Too many bubbles in milk when steaming. Micro-foam is a huge mission to accomplish. Great little machine for home coffee.

Smoke and Burning Smell!!!Review by Care
Price Value Quality
I loved this machine for 18 months - quiet and works well. But now, I hate it because I know it's breaking down. Smoke coming out of the steam nozzle on top of the machine and a distinct smoke smell. This machine cost $399!!! Delonghi customer service person was quick to say "sounds like you've past your one year warranty and there is nothing we can OR WILL do for you!" This made me feel furious.
As I ponder what machine to buy next, one thing I know for sure, it will NOT be a Delonghi - ever again.
I once had a Krups esspresso machine that had a problem after a couple of years... do you know, Krups replaced the entire machine for me! Now, that's customer service and a company that wants repeat business.
DO NOT BUY A KMIX MACHINE!

Decent shots, but the foam lacks.Review by Jes

Having a good grinder is a must in getting the timing of the shot right. The steam wand only produces big bubbled foam. If you would like to make latte's, then unfortunately this is not the machine for you. I would like to see some future upgrades from Delonghi, such as non pressurized baskets, and different steam tip choices. Doubt it will happen, but wishful thinking. All in all, it's a decent little home machine for the price.
Great Taste, Easy To Clean, Easy To Use, Large Water Container
No accessory upgrades, Milk only good for capps
