Tom S: It takes pre-ground coffee through the little bypass door seen on the top of the machine. We use it for de-caf. If you are planning on making a lot of coffee using this provision, this may not be the best machine. You are limited to a single scoop and don't have as much flexibility relative to brew strength. Michael S: Takes whole bean in a large holder, grinds the beans and delivers a beautiful espresso type beverage. It also will take pre ground coffee manually put into a separate receptacle by the user. I use this for decaf beverages mainly, but it will take any preground coffee (finely ground is best) Apr 17, 2012

Ray M: Yes, it will take pre ground coffee. FYI, I love this espresso machine. It's easy to use and makes a fantastic latte. You want to use a high quality bean though and ones that are not oily or it can gum up the grinder. Apr 17, 2012

Matthew H: Like most DeLonghi's it will take either. The ground coffee has to be measured and put in the machine for each cup, but the beans can be stored in bulk. Apr 17, 2012

If I wanted to pull 8 uninterrupted shots - would this Delonghi Magnifica continue to keep the water evenly hot during this or would it require wait time between them? Thank you in advance! Teri KStaff: Any superautomatic will have a fairly quick heat up and be able to pull a number of shots without wait time between them. The downside is that you will need to press the button to brew more than once, as the machine cannot pull 8 shots unattended by pressing the button just once. In a showroom test on our Magnifica ECAM 23210B, I found the temp of the shots was consistent over 8 brews, and there was not any additional wait time. Aug 13, 2012

Walter T: I make about 4 double shots every morning but not without a few minutes between draws. I can attest to 2 double shots in a row without a noticeable diminution of temperature. I just don't know if that would continue for the remainder you seek.

Lydia A: Absolutely no wait time for the water to heat. Even when first turning the machine on in the morning the wait time for the machine to get ready is less than a minute! Once it shows it is ready to brew the water coming out is hot. Fantastic machine! I totally enjoy mine. Aug 14, 2012

Michael S: I like my coffee strong, so I do the maximum beans and max single cup twice for the larger amount (approx 12 oz total)
If you do the two cup at once it is weaker as it is more water but the same amt of coffee is ground. I only tried that once, and it was not strong enough for me.
If you like it stronger and want more volume then you have to do single cup twice. It is very fast and easy to do it twice.
It makes wonderful coffee. European style, strong with "crema" on top.
If you want espresso style it does that very well also, just set for less water. Dec 28, 2012

Caring for the DeLonghi Magnifica ECAM 23210B

Descale every two to three months. We recommend using Dezcal.
Soap out water tank and drip tray every few days.
Remove the brew group and spray it down with hot water (no soap!) about once per week.
Wipe out bean hopper regularly to reduce coffee oil build up.
