What's not to like?
Review by Susanna -
Price Value Quality I've bought four of these for myself and family. It works exactly as it should and is very durable. I throw a dish rag over the top when I use it to avoid splashes from a damp puck. I also like the small size. It is unobtrusive on my counter.

quality without the price
Review by dave -
Price Value Quality love it. this knockbox sits unobtrusively next to Silvia. takes a solid hit from the portafilter and the puck's gone. best part is after pulling a perfect shot, anticipating that first smell & taste, i don't have to head for the garbage can first to get rid of the puck!

Cute and functional
Review by Kim -
Price Value Quality This knockbox is great for my use. It easily holds at least four pucks, and I just dump it out daily. I don't want to store pucks for days at a time, so the size is nice. The red color is eye-catching and a nice offset to the stainless steel and black. The small size helps with counter space. In general this is the nicest looking knockbox, in my opinion.

Great Buy
Review by Lorilee -
Quality Price Value I was hesitant about the purchase of this because of the size, but liked the idea that it could store right on the tray of the espresso machine. Perfect storage in a smaller space. From previous reviews I was concerned that people were having problems with the puck not going in and causing a mess to clean up. I listened to the advice of one reviewer who said "tilt it forward slightly before you knock it" and I have done just that and the puck drops in all in one piece--Nothing to clean up. It will hold about 7-8 pucks for me, before I have to empty it. Then I just dump out and rinse, wash by hand. I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend, especially for the money.

Love this box!
Review by Lesleym -
Quality Value Price I love this knock box. I use it every morning and like it alot better than having to dump my used grounds in the garbage which half of the time my filter would fall into to and I would have to dig out. Also prevents me from spilling coffee grounds all over my kitchen cabinets and floor. This little box works good for me and doesn't look too bad sitting on my kitchen counter either.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean

makes morning coffee easier
Review by Carolina -
Quality Value Price What a difference a good knowk box makes! Making multiple shots has never been quicker. And my plants love the left over grinds that are easily gathered. The only improvement would be a slightly higher back to avoid grinds escaping.

Great piece of office coffee gear
Review by Ranger Doug -
Quality Value Price When my wife bought a super-auto as a fathers day present for me (in actuality, she did not enjoy the ritual of the manual espresso machine), I decided to take my compact machine to the office. I could not take a big knock box, however, and Grindenstein's advertisement that it fits under the machine head sounded just right. When it arrived, I was pleased to find it was much tougher than I had expected. As advertised, it nestled nicely between the espresso head and the drip tray. My only problems with are: (a) Because the opening is so small, you cannot dump all the grounds with one, good knock. This is easily overcome by using a series of lighter taps to empty the grounds. . .you just have to get used to it. (b) You cannot remove the knock bar for cleaning or replacement. It is a minor annoyance, and a reasonable concession to the small size. (c) Problems a and b could probably be fixed in the future by moving the bar toward the back of the Grindenstein. For now, however, if you are looking for a sturdy, compact knock box for an espresso station with minimal counter space available, this does the job for you.
Pros:
Compact Design rugged
Cons:
Hard To Clean(Posted on 8/6/11)

Nice little Knock Box - small footprint
Review by Rich -
Quality Value Price works as expected. I'm one person so wasn't looking for a commercial size knock box, just needed something big enough to handle a couple double-shots a day. Can usually go the weekend without emptying it. Fits under the brewhead so easy to store.

A little too small for me
Review by BK -
Quality Value Price This is a well made knock box and also looks great. It is just a little too small for the E61 Group portafilter I use. I end up getting grounds on my counter top even when I am being careful. This is a nice product though so if you have a smaller portafilter give it a try.
Pros:
Nice design, Easy To Clean
Cons:
Tad small, Messy(Posted on 5/8/11)

Review by patagonia_nut -
Quality Value Price I need something that can stay on the limited counter-top space. This is great. It disappears behind the coffee machine and is enough to hold about 10 pucks of grind before I toss the old grounds to the plants. This is SO much better than banging against the trash can!

Review by Four Shot Monty -
Quality Value Price This is a great little knock box. I've seen people mention that the small size is a con, they why did you buy it then. I bought it for the small size, doesn't take any extra room, works great. Be mindful when you're knocking out the puck as the box can tip if you're not careful. Great product.
Pros:
Small Size, Easy To Use, Easy To Clean
Cons:

Cute and Sturdy
Review by Rina -
Quality Value Price The knock box is a good size for one or two espresso drinkers. Despite the compact size, I think it would fit 7-8 single pucks easily. I bought a white one and was worried it would discolor after a while. However, from the way it cleans up nicely and the slick interior material, I think it will stay white for a long time.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Commercial Grade, Easy To Clean
Cons:

Great little knockbox for a great price
Review by Peter -
Quality Value Price This is a great small knockbox for personal/kitchen use. I picked it up to potentially replace my larger drawer unit. I do like the knockbox, but the small size makes it require more attention to avoid a slight mess (part of the puck popping out).
I give it 5 stars for a knockbox of the size/price... but think it would be better just slightly larger.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean
Cons:
Messy(Posted on 8/29/10)

Compact, clean, & simple
Review by Skeeterbait -
Quality Value Price Manufacturer's description is accurate & truthful. I like the way this durable knock box "quietly" dislodges and accumulates multiple dry pucks from my Rancilio Silvia. I look forward taking the coffee grounds to my garden for enriching the soil at the end of the day. Easy & it feels like an organic thing to do.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean

It's nice, it's small, it works.
Review by Jeff -
Quality Value Price This is a very effective and attractive knockbox for low volume operations - it will hold six 'double' pucks easily, and you can stand up a seventh behind the bar before you need to empty it. It is one of the more quiet knockboxes you will find, and is unobtrusive. I 'whack' my portafilter near the handle end, with the handle pointing slightly down. The puck flips right out into the back and lands flat - you can stack 4 'double' pucks this way. A slight jiggle slides the 4 pucks to the front, and the next two land vertically (on their own). I have never yet had a puck 'mess' using this knockbox, even with the seventh puck, and that includes some pucks on the wet side. Cleans nicely with my vegetable sprayer and hot water - no residual oils so far, so not even a drop of liquid soap has been necessary. Says you can throw this in the dishwasher, but so far this seems like an overkill when plain hot water rinse seems to get it all. Works nice. I like it.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean
Cons:

Compact but impressive
Review by Coffee Bean -
Quality Value Price Even though I read all the other reviews that mentioned how small this was I guess I didn't think it would be THAT small. Having said that I only took one star off for it because I knew what I was getting into.
We make espresso daily and get at least 6 pucks in. Easy to empty and clean. sturdy build and a thick rubber bar engineered for many uses but takes up a good portion of the already limited space. We bought the black one on purpose - grounds stay hidden and black blends well in our kitchen. We don't have much counter space so it works for us. It took some practice to not make a mess and it's definitely easier if you have a drier puck but not impossible if you don't.
Overall good product for the cost but would like a little more room around the bar and maybe a slightly higher back. The picture is deceiving - pay attention to the actual measurements instead.

Easy To Use, Easy To Clean
Cons:

Big Performance Small Package
Review by Ben G -
Quality Value Price I purchased the Grindenstein after owning a larger, metal knockbox that I got secondhand when I purchased my first espresso machine. I heard good things about it from Mark Price of Coffee Geek and its members. I was a little concerned about the small size but I decided to purchase it anyway because it was relatively cheap compared with my other options. And I'm very happy I did!
Although it's smaller than my old knockbox, I can make about 5 doubles (maybe even 8) before I need to dump it. Really, it holds way more coffee than I expected. I can't imagine a home barista needing more capacity unless they evaluate machines and gear for fun like many on Home Barista. Moreover, the clean up is a breeze because the knock bar does not need to be removed when dumping the spent grounds, and since it is all one piece - instead of a box, base, and bar - it is really easy to keep shiny and new. Finally, its small footprint makes my kitchen counter look less cluttered, which is a blessing considering that my machine, etc. takes up about 1/4 of my kitchen.
My only critique is that I wish the back of the box went up a little further to prevent coffee grounds from getting on my counter when knocking the spent grounds into the box when it is almost full. It is important to note that I don't have this problem when the box is empty or even 3/4 full.
In sum, great product; I couldn't be happier and that's not something I say often.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Attractive design, Easy To Clean, Well Built
Cons:

Compact, Tough, Clever: The Grindenstein
Review by Andy -
Quality Value Price I use this thing multiple times a day and haven't been let down once. It holds enough bricks that I can empty every few days (which means the old grinds never go bad and work better in the garden for those who compost their grinds)
Being so small this thing stays out of the way when you don't need it, is big enough to clear any puck of grinds and fits perfectly on the drip tray.
It cleans like a gem and has made my coffee making so much easier. If you are a 1-5 coffee a day drinker this is perfect for you.

Compact, Discrete, Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Tough
