Seattle Coffee Gear Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Rich D: I chose this particular water kettle over a host of others because you can see the water being heated to boiling and then shut down automatically. Did I mention that my deaf 87 year old father-in-law lives with us? It is literally a God-send! No more unattended whistling tea pots! May 3, 2012
John H asked: On another website, they report this kettle having a problem with a bad odor that taints water heated in the kettle, possibly due to the silicone base not being cured well enough. Has anyone noticed an odor with this kettle? Feb 21, 2013

Kaylie KStaff: Our customer reviews have not reported an odor. We also have one here that we regularly use for tea in the afternoon. After repeatedly sniffing it, we detect no bad odor! Feb 21, 2013

audreyl: The one I got has a strong smell of chlorine. Or maybe rubber. I didn't notice where it was coming from at first?I thought it was the water. Now I wonder if it is that rubbery gasket under the heating element. I need to know what that is made of. Thank you.
Audrey L. Dec 14, 2013
Teri KStaff: I would suggesting boiling and discarding a few pots full of water if you are noticing a bad odor from your Capresso H20 Plus Kettle. I am not sure what the rubbery gasket is made of, but Capresso would be able to offer more insight into this if you contact them at 800-767-3554. Sorry I can't provide more information on this! (unknown) ( asked: What do they mean by cordless? How does it boil water?
MARIE

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Rich D: The carafe is cordless, the base is not. Installed permanently in the base of the carafe is a 1500 watt electric heating element. When the carafe is ready to be used with at least the amount of water being above the minimum level depicted on the side of the carafe, the carafe is then placed onto the base (which makes the electrical connection with the carafe) and initiate the thumb trigger on the handle, the water is then heated rapidly to boiling, at which time the switch disconnects automatically from the electric current to the base. Nice and easy! Very clean looking and clean in design! We use it daily for our "perfect temperature" with which to brew our tea. May 3, 2012

J O: The base plugs into a wall socket and serves as the receptacle for the kettle. The kettle is glass and has a hard rubber bottom with a electrical contact in it so when you place it on its base and flick the switch on the handle,it will begin to heat up and shut off automatically when the water is boiled. Aferwards you can place the kettle anywhere as the bottom acts as insulation and protects the glass as well. Very nice kettle as long as you are careful with it ie the glass body. May 3, 2012

Michael S: Maybe they mean the base is plugged into an outlet while the carafe sits on the base and itself has no cord?

Anyway, it works great and looks good?certainly an improvement over an older plastic model.

But keep in mind that if you are usually boiling only one or two cups, this model may be over-sized.

Allison P: The cord is connected to the base, not the kettle, so you can lift the kettle w/o the cord. The base heats up and boils water quickly, and shuts off automatically once it reaches the boiling point. I recommend it. May 3, 2012

Virginia T: The kettle sits on a corded base. There is a heating element inside the kettle beneath a small, stainless-steel dome. So, it is cordless in the way that any cord -free appliance is used. Hope this was helpful. May 3, 2012

Ralph G: The glass kettle detaches from the base. The base contains the heating element which has the electrical cord. This is actually a very nice feature. May 3, 2012

Andre P: There is a base that has a cord. The kettle lays on the base and is easily removable, thus making the kettle cordless. May 3, 2012

Linda H: It plugs in to heat up. Then you can take it off the stand pour. Cord is built into heating stand May 3, 2012

A shopper asked: In a review (from another site) the person said the lid is chrome and the chrome eventually flakes off, has anyone had this problem? Sep 21, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
thomas p: The lid is not actual chrome but a plastic with chrome plating. There is no problem with this but if you abuse it you will eventually chip it much like if it were painted but this is more resilient than paint to wear and tear. Sep 25, 2012
Reply to thomas Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Wendy K: We have not had a problem with the chrome on the lid but the metal on the heating element looks awful. Unfortunately, because of the glass, you end up seeing this whenever you look at the kettle. Sep 25, 2012

Ralph G: Yes lid is chrome, but haven't had the flaking problem. Had the Kettle for well over a year and use it twice daily. Great kettle, recommended. Sep 25, 2012

Cons:

Best water kettle for the price

This kettle boils water fast, and looks good doing it. Glass doesn't impart any flavors like the plastic ones do. I wish I could control what temperature it shuts off at, but a small thermometer can tell me and I shut it off myself. Steam seems to escape through the handle but it doesn't seem to effect reliability or performance.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Large Water Container

Cons:
Hard To Clean
