- Clean the burrs on a weekly to bi-weekly basis, either with a cleaning brush or a burr grinder-specific cleaning product, such as Grindz.

I am set with my Macap MC4

Quality Value Price I replaced my Rancilio Rocky with the Macap MC4. The Rocky was a nice starting point, but I was ready to take it to the next level. It did take about a week or so to find the right setting, but I rarely have to adjust it any more. The one complaint that I have (as well as other people), is the issue of the grounds sticking in the chute. It leads to a lot of waste and it makes a mess when the grounds finally fall out AFTER you already cleaned the area. Now I use a chopstick to get those last grounds out and into the portafilter where they belong.Once we find your proper settings and solve the issue of the grinds sticking in the chute, it is a great machine. I am not going to change my grinder any time soon.

Quality Value Price I use the Macap MC4 doserless grinder to make two or three espresso drinks a day. It is an upgrade from a Rancilio Rocky.
I used my Rocky for over a year. It took most of that time to learn how to get consistent shots with it. Once I got to that point I figured I was ready for an upgrade. Without any personal experience of the prosumer grinders on the market I read the reviews and comments on the web and decided that the Mazzer was the ultimate but that the Macap was thought to be as good in some respects, like the quality of the grind.
I have been using the Macap for about three weeks. I am still learning. I don't have it down pat yet but after my experience with the Rocky I expect it to take a while. I like the solidness of it. The Macap is a lot quieter than the Rocky and has a reassuring feel. The grind is very nice, of course and the fine, stepless adjustment is beautiful.
On the other hand it is hard to get used to the coffee that stays in the chute. There is a lip up in there that the coffee hangs on and the chute will hold 7-8g of grinds. I had a pretty good routine with the Rocky and was able to get into fresh grinds with a 4g waste. I don't have a good system with the new machine and I expect to toss 7g with the first shot. And with that lip/shelf up there I am never sure if I am getting all fresh. On the other hand the grind is clump free. (I suspect that is the purpose of the lip.)
This grinder is quiet and produces a nice grind. On the other hand there is more waste than I like and it would be a real pain to open it up for drip or french-press grind. I am going to continue to work with it. Maybe after a year I will have it down pat.
I would recommend this to a friend who understands that the high price is for the best results, not ease of use.
