Pricy, but a very nice espresso grinder.
Review by Marshal -
Price Value Quality The Mahlkönig ProM Espresso is pricy, but is a very nice espresso home, or professional, grinder.
Out of the box, virtually everything that I did not like about my Mahlkönig ProM was fixed with the Mahlkönig ProM Espresso: the coffee hopper is as large as it appears to be, which is quite large; the coffee rolls downhill as the coffee is ground, so you don't have to shake the beans down into the grind-well; the grind adjustment knob has to be pushed-in, in order for the grind to be changed, and has a positive stop at the "zero" point; the (now digital) grind timer is set away from the grind knob so there are no accidental changes made to grind fineness or duration.
That the Espresso has a series of alarms, counters, and other such devices, seems to me features without purpose, unless the grinder is used professionally.
What I did not like was that Mahlkönig seems to set their grinders overly coarse from the factory, and without apparent correctability. Fortunately, I lost patience with the 'good enough' grind, and discovered for myself how easy it is to adjust the grinder's control to a point where "zero" means "zero". Now the grind is as fine as my ProM All-Around!
There is no mention of how to do this --trust me: I looked-- so ask Mike in the Service Department for directions if your grinder is set too coarse.(Posted on 10/9/12)
