Submit a question directly to owners of this product and ask what they think about it!
1) Is this tank made of the same plastic as OEM?
2) Is this tank dishwasher safe?
Thanks in advance. Oct 7, 2013
I am not 100% sure about question 1. The water tank looks the same to me as the original but I cannot verify if it is exactly the same plastic or not. Also, I do not have a dishwasher so I cannot answer question 2. In my experience, it is fairly easy to remove and hand wash the tank. Also, If you keep the cover on the tank the water will stay clean and using filtered water should help as well.
Sorry I cannot give better answers for your questions. I can tell you that I have been happy with the purchase.

I also have a question out to Rancilio but have not heard back. I will post here if they are able to answer the question.
As for ease of washing: If you see that little + shaped bump inside: it is almost impossible to get in there and remove the slime that forms over time. It is a tremendous design flaw that would only be remedied by removing it or being able to wash in the dishwasher. Oct 10, 2013
Thank you for your recent request. We are sorry you having trouble cleaning the machine. Unfortunately, the water tank is not officially dishwasher safe. Attached are the weekly cleaning instructions for the Silvia.
So there you have it. Design flaw+NOT dishwasher safe. Oct 10, 2013
I took it out to clean one day and dropped it, causing a crack in the side. I ordered 2 more, one to replace and an extra in case it happens again. Perfect replacement. Oct 10, 2013

The water tank that came with my Rancilio Silvia when I bought it 7 years ago had a small see-through manufacturing spot right on the bottom which I always thought was normal -- until it began leaking recently! The replacement I bought from Seattle Coffee Gear was better quality, obviously an improved version from the manufacturer. It is working well -- I expect it to last for the lifetime of the machine.
