Rattleware Espresso Tamping Mat

We were always using the countertop to tamp our ground coffee puck. We purchased the medium mat and put it directly in front of the espresso machine. Saves the countertop surface and is a hard rubber so you can press hard on the puck. We've used it daily for a few months now and not a dent in it. Besides, it collects all the coffee grounds so all you do is rinse it under water and your counter is clean!

Bought this to use with my Starbucks Barista, it's the perfect size, easy to wipe off, and saves my portafilter from sliding around on the counter. After a quick wipe off it stores easily on top of my espresso machine.

This mat is a good size, large enough to allow plenty of room for tamping but not so large that it won't fit on a crowded countertop

Its just a piece of rubber with no markings. Works as described. Its available here at a great price to buy a piece of rubber the same size would cost more.

This tamping mat is a great accessory especially if you have a portafilter that tends to scratch or dent your counter top. This mat is a nice size (not too big and not too small) and it works well and cleans up well. My only gripe about the product is the terrible rubber smell when you first open up the product. The smell gets better over time, but it is a little strong at first.

Using the tamping mat is much nicer than tamping onto a towel or bare counter top. In retrospect, I wish I would have ordered the one that wraps around the corner of the counter; this doesn't come into play with my standard portafilter, but with a bottomless one I need the mat on the edge of the counter so that I can place the bottomless portafilter flat on the mat.
The only suggestion I would have to the manufacturer is to apply a slight texture to the working sides of the mat for aesthetic purposes. It is very flat and shows scratches and scuffs easily.

This is high quality and does what it's meant to do, thus the five stars. If you are short on space this is great. I do wish I'd ordered the larger one, just to have a bigger surface. Personal preference...but that's not anything against this particular mat!

Got this to protect my wooden counter top.
Works as advertised, and the one I received does not have the acrid plastic smell that sometimes permeates these items.

Perhaps the treatment process has been updated to reduce the smelliness.

BEFORE I TRIED TO USE A CLOTH OR THE KITCHEN SINK TO HOLD WHILE TAMPING. IT TURN INTO A MESS. THIS RUBBER PAD WORKS GREAT AND DOESN'T SMELL LIKE RUBBER. YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN BUT IT MAY BE SMELLY AND HAVE SHARP AND TORN EDGES. FOR A COUPLE OF BUCKS, LET THEM MAKE IT AND YOU'LL BE GLAD.

A good rubber mat is a good investment for any level of home barista. Not only does it save your countertop or other surface, but it also gives a good 'grippy' platform for tamping. Easy to clean, and once the initial rubber smell is gone a great surface cover. I just wish it was bigger, I'd line my whole counter with it!

Was originally thinking about just using a cloth to tamp with but Im glad I didnt cheap out. The mat works great for tamping without damaging your counter surface. Be sure to measure what you need before you buy. I found out this was too big for me and had to cut it in half.
