Quick Overview
The updated Odea Giro Plus Espresso Machine with OptiDose II from Saeco features improved grinder functionality that automatically adjusts to the kind of beans you're using. Saeco also paid close attention to the sensor issues in its first Odea Giro iteration and now offers a choice of five different grind settings that will produce a richer shot. Saeco kept the updated Odea Giro Plus' operations extremely basic: adjust the amount of ground coffee beans used and the brewed volume you desire, then press the brew button once (or twice for a double shot). A high-clearance steam wand accommodates your frothing pitcher without needing to tip it to fit underneath (as with some older Saeco models).
Features & Functionality of the Saeco Odea Giro Plus
- Adjustable Ceramic Burrs: Burrs will stay sharper longer and the grinder is much more quiet. You can easily adjust to use your favorite type of bean.
- Simple Interface: Select your shot volume and press the cup button once or twice for single or double shots.
- Easy Clean: Removable brew group requires minimal cleaning.
- Large Water Tank: Fifty ounce removable reservoir can be setup for the Aqua Prima water filter to minimize scale build up. Convenient side access makes it easy to refill and clean.
- Easy Froth Wand: Panarello attachment makes frothy milk easy to produce without much skill required. It also dispenses hot water for Americanos or tea.
- Cup Warmer: Pre-warm up to six espresso cups on the top of the machine.
- Removable Tray: Easily adjust the tray or remove it completely to accommodate taller cups.

I presume the doser was set to max, "three beans". I thought "one bean" was best for the Java and "two beans" for the Guatemala. I have not experimented with the grind yet but you may get better results with a grinder adjustment.

we like trader joe's organic espresso or ethical bean's espresso roast. I find'em plenty strong with good crema. Nov 27, 2012
Love the taste, not too harsh, not watery, just right Nov 27, 2012
Is that a double shot from the same puck of grounds or does it use 2 pucks worth?
Thanks!! May 7, 2013

mostly great
Review by Hello -
Quality Price Value Makes excellent lattes. Simple to use, love the automatic functions.
The warning light is a bit excessive, very tempermental and must watch carefully the waste water and coffee grounds bins, empty them constantly. Getting used to managing it but still annoying, the warning light will go on with extremely little water in the waste bin.
Removed the pannarello from the wand and just use the bare wand. the pannarello is too clumsy to use.(Posted on 3/15/13)

EXCELLANT!! I LOVE this machine and the Awesome Service!!!
Review by Tracy -
Quality Price Value Over the years I have purchased several espresso machines. The machines have ranged from the inexpensive department store model to the high end models offered for sale by a large well-known Northwest coffee roaster. NONE of those machines compare to this one as it relates to quality of coffee and ease of use. Additionally, the folks from SCG shipped the machine to me free and it arrived well packed in just two days! I haven't stopped telling people about my nifty new machine or the fantastic service from Seattle Coffee Gear.

Every day coffee
Review by CoffeeLady -
Price Value Quality My brother has this machine in an old model. Every time I went there, I enjoyed the coffee. I want the machine so bad, but after I read so many reviews from Amazon.com, I was so afraid of a lemon product. Finally I decided to take a chance to buy one. I had this machine for three months now. I am waiting this long just want to make sure it can last at least three months.
I received the first machine in a week after I ordered, and it was dead. I was very disappointed. After calling the SCG Company, they sent a replacement in a week. The second machine works just like they promised and it makes great coffee. I leave the ‘dial button’ in the middle and use ‘two bean’ button. It makes great 'every day' coffee. I cannot wait to the morning to make myself a fresh coffee. The second machine works nicely so far. I hope it can last for years to come. I love the coffee it makes, and I love to make cappuccino in front of my guests. SGC has the cheapest price for this model 'Saeco Odea Giro plus Opti II' on the market.
The machine makes good coffee, and if you are a coffee lover, it is worth to buy it.

Great expresso machine
Review by Terry -
Price Value Quality My wife and I decided on this machine after the great reviews from SCG. The videos are fun to watch. I bought it for x-mas gift to my wife and I and we used it all day for our family dinner and evening party x-mas day. We used up two bags of beans through it the first day !! Everyone loved our cooffee service. The opti -dose adjustable coffee strength is really a must have feature. We also purschased the milk to perfection frothing pitcher. It works super for any beginner and creates great froth, just be patient with it.
The machine is very easy to operate, just read the instructions... step by step.... and you will be happy. We love our new machine. Our son bought one exactly like it the very next day after x-mas from SCG. You will not be disappointed ;-)
My only wish would have been for a little more stainless or brushed metals verse the all plastic housing.(Posted on 12/30/12)

Awesome machine!!!
Review by Carma -
Price Value Quality This is my first high dollar coffee maker and I absolutely LOVE it!! It's an early Christmas gift. I like the espresso shots and my husband likes the regular cup of coffee with cream. I was amazed at the tastes I can now taste. Just ordered some pumpkin spice syrup to make lattes. It is well worth the money! And speaking of money, Seattle Coffee Gear has the best price around. I shopped all over the internet, and they were at least $100 cheaper. I love their videos and all the info they have on their machines. I was a little worried about cleaning it, but it much easier than expected. Considering buying one for my 82 yr old father-in-law. Very impressed with my machine, and with SCG!!

very good product for the money
Review by MilPTC GA -
Price Value Quality We've had Saeco Odea Plus only for a few weeks and it's been doing all we needed without a problem so far. I love cappuccionos from Saeco, it's easy, no mess. We love the Optidose setting, the automation, easy maintanance. Once we learn all different types of coffee drinks, it'll be even better. We have ordered a better quality coffee from Seattle Coffee Gear so it should make a difference as well. I am taking off one star for quality because it is almost all plastic.

PERFECT COFFEE
Review by lindyb -
Price Value Quality I have purchased three of these machines. I have had one for two years now. I love it. I know there are better machines, but they are also three time the price. I bought one for my son and we had to sent it back twice. SCG made it right the first time. The next time we dealt with Seaco and they sent us a new machine with many appoligies. The new one is fabulous. I just purchased another one for my new son-in-law as a Christmas gift. He won't drink any other coffee now that he has had coffee made in these machines. It is really worth it if you are a coffee lover. Easy to use. I use french roast beans. Love that you can set the amount of beans you want ground. From a regular but spectacular morning cup to espresso shots to cappucino. It is great.

Happy with my purchase
Review by ProustHouse -
Price Value Quality It took me a while to work up the courage to spend $500 on a coffee machine. However, after finding the good prices on SeattleCoffeeGear.com I made the leap. I've had the machine for a little over a month now, and I'm loving it. The shipping was super fast, the item was well packaged, and it arrived as described.
With 2 kids, a dog, and full time jobs, this coffee machine has made it a breeze for my wife and I to get an excellent cup of coffee during our hectic mornings.
I love the lazy susan design, as it makes accessing the water and dredge trays super easy.
The item is well designed and easy to use. After selecting the strength of espresso with the 3 levels of coffee grinds, and choosing the amount of water with a dial, you just press the coffee button once or twice for one or two shots of espresso, and voila.
Nothing really negative to say about it so far; however, I only gave 4 starts for quality due to it being mainly built out of plastic. However, so far the plastic seems durable, and probably keeps the cost of the machine reasonable.
I would recommend this product, and SeattleCoffeeGear.com!(Posted on 11/2/12)

Easy and convenient
Review by RK -
Price Value Quality Purchased this machine few weeks ago. So easy to use and makes excellent cappuccino. Don't have to deal with any mess and clean up is very easy. I'm not getting consistent foam with the milk frother but it could be the way I'm doing it.

Great Machine
Review by Coffee Love -
Value Quality Price After many months of research, we purchased this machine a month ago. It is the best!! So easy to use and makes excellent espresso. It is perfect for us because we are too busy with our children to spend time preparing and cleaning a semi automatic machine and separate grinder. With everything built in there is no mess and clean up is a snap. There is a lot of talk about the milk frother and I think it does best with small amounts of milk at a time. When we do it this way we get great foam every time.

Very nice
Review by mncoffeelover -
Quality Price Value We have not had this machine very long, so I can't talk about reliability but the machine itself is phenomenal. We had a Vienna Plus before and there is NO comparison. The Giro with the rapid steam allows you to froth milk and go right into brewing without having to get the temperature down first. The adjustments for the optiDose are easy to do and work great. It just gets a much better cappuccino out of the same beans than the Vienna Plus.
Love it. Hope it will prove to be reliable.(Posted on 7/13/12)

Great Crema - And R2D2 Too~
Review by Java Jive Talkin' -
Quality Value Price In one day I have pulled all different sorts of shots on the Odea Giro...short intense espressos with great cream....longer fuller cups a la Americano. In no time I was able to set up and begin using this wonderful and attractive machine. It takes a short introduction to "kicking the tires" of the form, function, and parts on this lovely machine both with the manual and test drive...but from there I can see we are both going to be very happy. Note: I am primarily an espresso drinker, not capuccino or latte. I have no doubt it will make lovely froth for milk. The cup warmer surface and feature could be improved (seems to take a while to heat up cups - maybe that's why it's "passive") but this is a small quibble. Great control and intuitive interface. A lot of features at a great price and in a very attractive package - R2D2!
Pros:
Design, Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Great Taste
Cons:

Awesome machine, best milk froth
Review by Alaskanickie -
Quality Value Price This was a gift for friends whose old Odea just broke down. I got them the refurbished, and at a recent visit, they proudly displayed their new, and much better machine. Even though i've only owned Juras myself, I have always been impressed with the great coffee quality, and the easiest milk froth maker ever. It was a great gift, for a very low cost, and looks/works like brand new.
Pros:
Easy To Use, Best milk froth ever, Quick Brewing, Great Taste
Cons:
No preground coffee(Posted on 11/1/10)

Excellent improments...
Review by quantum -
Quality Value Price Because I deal with physics/chemistry/mathematics around the world, hours awake not desired. This updated version is the best for the $$$. There were concerns that needed to be addressed, and they did, Saeco does want to be in the mix with other name brands. It has been very dependable and all previous reviews last year as of today do not apply to this model.
Pros:
Commercial Grade
Cons:
Small Water Container(Posted on 10/13/10)

I'm impressed...
Review by Griff the Business Owner -
Quality Value Price I bought this unit to satisfy my coffee cravings. I'm impressed with the quality I received for the money. My only critiques are ones that knew going into to the purchase that face a lot of super automatics; that is, the taste won't be world class (but certainly fine for my tastes) and weak milk frothing capacity (it can't warm up 20 oz of cold milk to 150 degrees without overheating). Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I think I'll probably shop here the next time I need a coffee toy fix.
As a side note, I bought it for my office and everybody loves it. It's a nice (and cheap) way to boast moral and productivity.
Pros:
Quick Brewing, Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Great Taste
Cons:
It can be slightly buggy(Posted on 9/2/10)

Pros:
