Features & Functionality of the Refurbished Saeco Talea Giro Plus

  • Adjusting Dosing: Select from three different dosage settings to vary the strength of your shot. The new Plus model includes a fourth option that activates the preground option for decaf coffee.
  • Saeco Brewing System (SBS): Pressurization dial lets you select from more or less pressure so you can dial in your crema preferences.
  • Removable Stainless-Steel Drip Tray: With some of the best cup clearance of any superautomatic on the market, the Giro Plus can accommodate even taller cups.
  • Ceramic Burr Grinder: A quieter grinder than steel, ceramic burr grinders also stay sharper longer. You can adjust it to five different coarseness settings. The Giro Plus version has been updated to include the new Saeco Adapting System (SAS), which automatically adjusts to work with your favorite bean selection.
  • Panarello Attachment: A sturdy steam wand includes an attachment that makes frothing easy, requiring little intervention on your part. The wand also dispenses hot water.
  • 57 ounce Water Tank: Suitable for the optional Aqua Prima filter (to reduce scale buildup), the removable water tank is accessed from the side, making it easy to clean and refill.
  • Removable Brew Group: Also accessed from the side, this brew group is easy to clean and maintain — just pull it out once per week and spray it down with hot water.
  • Wheeled Base: Smoothly move the machine across your countertop without having to lift it.
Pros
  • Large Cup Clearance - The Talea Giro Plus fits a wide variety of cup sizes.
Cons
  • Plastic - Although the redesigned Plus model has a stainless-steel drip tray, we wish there were more metal incorporated into the case.

How Does it Compare? The Saeco Talea Giro Plus has consistent shots and a large cup clearance, thus we think it's a great machine. However, it does lack advanced programming that some users enjoy.

sebjr asked: Is this Certified Refurbished an original version Saeco Talea Giro Plus Espresso Machine or a Version 2 Saeco Talea Giro Plus Espresso Machine? Aug 21, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: Our refurbished Saeco Talea Giro Plus is the second version of this machine. The original version, the Saeco Talea Giro, did not have a bipass doser. This new version, the Plus, has updated grind settings (from three to five), and that bipass for preground coffee-- great for decaf in the evenings! Aug 22, 2012

Alexandre B asked: What doesnt come in the pack that i should have to get it to work? Just bought one and didnt knew that i would need extra parts to make it work at the frist moment... What actually come with this product? Feb 7, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: The Refurbished machines like this Talea Giro Plus do not come with non essential items like water hardness test strips, filters and brew unit lubricant. Though these items are not necessary for operation, filters and lubricant can be found in the Saeco Maintenance Kit at the link below:

http://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/saeco-maintenance-kit

Otherwise, though, the machine is ready to use right out of the box!

A shopper asked: My Talea has a bypass doser. However each time I have used exactly proper pre ground coffee measuring scoop and use the bypass Doser when I go to brew a shot machine begins grinding additional beans and dumps the ground coffee into the dreg drawer without making a shot. Help! Fixes? Dec 23, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: In order to use the bypass doser on the Talea Giro, you will fist want to select the bypass option in your strength menu. Press the button with the 3 beans on it until the forth icon (a series of dots) is lit, indicating you would like to brew using the bypass doser. Then, add the premeasured scoop of espresso and press the cup button to brew. The machine should not grind any additional beans if the bypass icon is lit, and should instead brew a shot of espresso with the pregound coffee you have added to the chute at the bean hopper. Hope this helps! Dec 23, 2013

Bruce M asked: Does the Talea Giro use the same brew group as the Odea Giro? Hoping to be able to use the parts off my old Odea as spare parts. Dec 5, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: Yes, the Odea and Talea machines use many of the same parts, including the brew unit. Dec 5, 2013

A shopper asked: How does the Talea Giro Plus compare to the Talea Touch Plus? Thanks in advance. Oct 28, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: The main difference between the Talea Giro and the Talea Touch is that the Touch offers more programming via that touch screen. The Giro has just the main dial you see on the front of the unit for altering more or less liquid in your cup. The Touch, on the other hand, offers three drink buttons in the menu of the touch screen that can save a few attributes for an espresso shot and short and long coffee, such as strength, volume of liquid, etc. Hope this helps clarify! Stephen L asked: Hello There,

Just curious to know how this machine compares to the Saeco Syntia HD8837/47? All the help is greatly appreciated!
Aug 23, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: The Syntia has two programmable buttons and a smaller water tank and bean hopper, while the Tale Giro has a dial for volume of liquid in your cup and no programmable buttons. The Talea does have a much larger water tank and bean hopper. They are both going to brew the same shots and be the same in terms of reliability. Hope this helps! Aug 27, 2013

Dave M asked: Since this is a refurb, where can I purchase the additional items that don't come with the unit, such as the water filter? I don't necessarily need a water hardness tester (I know it's very hard water already), but wondered about some of the other items that usually come with this model. Anyone have a link or two? Sep 29, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: You can find filters and other cleaning supplies for your Talea Giro under the Accessories tab on our page. :) We recommend the Intenza water filter, and Dezcal for descaling. Oct 9, 2012

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Teri KStaff: The Saeco Talea Giro Plus is not compatible with the cappuccinatore, however you can purchase the Milk Island, shown at the link below:

I am enjoying the machine. So far it is working well and I'm learning how to use it. I'm also drinking too much coffee. Love the videos on YouTube -- helpful and entertaining. I was surprised that the water filter was not included with the refurbished machine. I think that's a mistake.

We love our machine. We added the Milk Island and couldn't be happier! Well...yes we could. For the second time in 18 months our brew group has locked up. The first one never produced good "pucks", so I had a feeling that it would go at some point, but the second was awesome. And to keep it that way, we maintained it like clockwork. A few weeks ago it seized up again. We extended the warranty, so I am not out anything, but being without for a few weeks is disappointing.

I am finally able to invite friends over for a latte and not be up to my elbows in messy grounds! This machine delivers a great espresso with a ton of crema--the amount of crema is even adjustable. I usually drink drip coffee in the morning, but my habits have now changed to Americanos.

I was able to purchase the milk island elsewhere and highly recommend it if you enjoy steamed very foamy milk. It produces the best foam i have ever encountered on any espresso drink anywhere. So thick you need a spoon. I do have the small island container--perfect for one large mug-- but that could be an issue if you regularly entertain and want larger quantities of foamed milk. Typically, I just steam hot water through the island to clean it, although you can take it apart and clean it more thoroughly by hand. The machine water container is a bit small, so you have to check it regularly. I did not find the manual steam wand to be nearly as effective as the milk island.

As an Americano lover, i still find it best to heat my water in the micro rather than drawing down the tank water to fill my big 16 oz mug. I really like the ability to adjust the amount of grounds used since i want a LOT of flavor and adding that second shot is very easy--not so with my old manual Starbucks pump machine. Emptying the portafilter on my old one was always messy, unless I let it sit a while, so making one espresso after another was not fun. With this machine, multiple shots are no problem.

I was sold on the refurbished model, not just by the price, but by the great impression the demo U-Tube videos gave me of Seattle Coffee Gear. Not only are the two ladies entertaining, they are extremely informative. After reading horror stories on other web sites about repairs from obscure facilities, I am confident if I have a problem they will be there to fix it, and they included a one year warranty direct from them.

Pros:
I love the foamy espresso, Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Great Taste

Cons:
Small Water Container, Weak manual steam wand
