Please don't ask us why or how we named this -- some things are best left unexamined. Just whip it up, throw on this video and pour one out for the late gloved one. Hoooo!
- 1/2 oz. Monin Caramel sauce
- 1/2 oz. Monin White Chocolate sauce
- 2 shots of espresso
- steamed milk to taste
Combine sauces together, pull shots and mix in serving mug. Top with steamed milk and enjoy -- perhaps whilst watching the legacy and evolution of dance, courtesy of Les Twins.
We've talked about it a bit here and there -- in our newsletter, on Facebook and Twitter -- but thought we'd make it official here. Seattle Coffee Gear's retail store is moving locations at the end of this month and here's all the details:
We'll be at our current location (4210 196th St SW, Lynnwood WA 98036) through this Saturday, October 30th -- open for our usual hours of 10am - 6pm. We'll then be moving real-quick-like and be open for business at the new joint beginning Monday, November 1st (also our regular hours of 10am - 6pm).
We're growing! We moved our headquarters (repairs, offices, shipping and inventory operations) to a much larger facility earlier this year, and now it's time for the store to follow. This means that all of our services will again be under one roof again, making it much easier for you to get the services you need.
In celebration of the move, we'll be hosting and Opening Shindig on Sunday, November 14, from 12 - 4. We'll have reps from Seattle-based manufacturer La Marzocco here, pulling shots from and answering questions on the GS/3, as well as other goodies and local vendors. We're also holding a trivia contest that will test your knowledge of Gail & Kat's videos -- with a $100 SCG gift certificate grand prize!
Whether you can make it to the opening or can come up during another time, definitely come check out our new digs! We're really excited about it and look forward to working with you in our new space.
At long last, the new Z7 from Jura is available to all retailers! This new one-touch superautomatic replaces the Z5/Z6 models, offering all of their same functionality with some improvements -- specifically to the height adjustment with the spouts, which can now accommodate tall travel tumblers.
It has a great design, featuring metallic accents and the clean look that Jura is known for. We'll have a demo available soon and so will post a crew review shortly.
Autumn is our very favorite time of the year and nothing says cool, crisp weather and vibrantly colored leaves quite like Maple Spice. We paired this succulent sauce with some white chocolate and voila! A sweet sipper that is hopefully not too maplicious for ya, babe.
- 1/2 oz. Monin Maple Spice syrup
- 1/2 oz. Monin White Chocolate sauce
- 2 oz. espresso
- 6 oz. steamed milk
Combine sauce and syrup in your serving mug, pull shots and mix together. Top with steamed milk and serve.
DeLonghi and Nespresso have coalesced yet again to offer an updated version of their Lattissima series of machines. Like their previous models, the Lattissima Premium takes Nespresso's finely tuned capsule espresso and pairs it with DeLonghi's one-touch automatic milk frothing so you can easily create a one-touch cappuccino or latte without muss or fuss. OK, maybe a little bit of fuss.
This time around, the Premium has a beautiful metal casing and increased programming options. We'll be getting in a batch shortly, so check them out and sign up to get an email update once they're in stock if you're interested.
Proving that caffeine can get more than just your body going, designers Mischer*Traxler created batteries utilizing old Nespresso aluminum capsules, coffee grounds, strips of copper and salt water. As part of Vienna Design week, the batteries were setup to power clocks displayed in Nespresso Austria's display window.
In addition to questions of flavor/quality, one of the common concerns folks have about Nespresso machines is the capsules -- specifically, are they eco-friendly? They are definitely recyclable, but you need to clean them out beforehand (often more work than some folks want to do) so here's another option instead. Crush 'em up and use them to power your alarm clock! We assume no liability when you arrive late to work, however.
- 1/2 oz. Monin Pear syrup
- 1/2 oz. Monin Blood Orange syrup
- 4 oz. Pinot Grigio white wine
- 2 oz. cranberry juice
- Splash of lemon lime soda
- Fill a mixing glass (with shaker) with ice.
- Add syrups, wine and juice to the ice and shake vigorously until combined.
- Pour through strainer, serving it up in a chilled wine glass.
- Splash a bit of lemon lime soda on top and garnish with your favorite fruit.
Unless the roaster is using some type of preservative measure (such as the nitrogen flush used by large roaster Lavazza), coffee starts aging within its sealed bag from the moment it's roasted. We set aside bags from March and June batches of Velton's Bonsai Blend to compare the aged coffee against coffee roasted last week.
Check out our test and take a moment to appreciate our dedicated commitment to science -- we tasted some seriously nasty shots for the team, people!
We finally got our paws on the new Virtuoso Preciso, which gives you 11 micro adjustments within the standard 40 macro adjustments (allowing you to dial in your grind more precisely). It also comes standard with the Portaholder. Check out our video review on this from a couple of weeks ago to learn more about this grinder's basic specs, or watch Gail compare it with the regular Virtuoso and the Vario.
As of this writing, we have 6 to sell until the end of October -- Baratza had a very limited initial manufacturing run, so they limited retailers to just 6 this time around. If you've been coveting this, grab it soon or you may have to wait until later this month or early November for your chance.
As they did this same time last year, Jura's UK division is auctioning off a pink Ena5 to raise money and create awareness of the UK's Breast Cancer Awareness month. The auction is only available to UK residents, so we sadly can't get our hands on Barbie's espresso machine stateside.
For those of you who can participate and love (or love someone who loves) bubblegum-hued accoutrement, you can get your hands on this machine by joining in on the bidding through October 29, 2010. And what feels better than getting an awesome superautomatic espresso machine while also contributing to a good cause? Little else, especially when that cause involves keeping the world filled with bountiful chichis!
Learn more about the auction, the charities it benefits and how to participate on Jura UK's website.
