Crew Review: Capresso EC100

While our deep love for the Rocket Cellini is endless and binding, we do appreciate that not everyone has $2k to drop on their home espresso setup and they'd still like to make a rockin' cup of joe in the morning. The Capresso EC100 is a small semi-automatic espresso machine that features stainless steel finishes and flexible brewing options -- although, we did learn that you'll need to use smaller sized pods for these if that's the route you want to take ... 40mm vs. the standard ESE.

Watch Gail take us through the features and demo its functionality.

    Hi Kat,

I love you and your Grammy, you have the best review videos. I am seriously looking at this machine, but in your video you guys had a problem with ESE pods. Is there any way I could ask you to try again? Maybe the portafilter was not completely clicked in? we really like the conveniece of the ESE pods.

I am not sure why everything I type is in ALL caps, but oh well.

    Thanks,
    Gary

      Hi Gary -

      Gail isn't my grammy - she's everyone's grammy!

For pod brewers, this is not one of our favorites and portafilter engagement isn't really something that can be incorrectly engaged -- if it wasn't, it would have exploded all over us :)

There are better pod brewers out there - the best we've tested is the Saeco Aroma or Via Venezia models.

      Hope that helps! :)

MY EC100 is leaking hot water inside somewhere around the brewing head. not leaking at the portafilter seal. Any idea what this could be? i'm ready to return it under warranty, but if it's going to happen on the next one, then I'm no better off.
    Thanks,

I wish I had a good answer for you, but as we can't repair these, I'm not familiar with what could be the specific cause for this. I haven't heard this from other customers on a regular basis, so it could have just been an issue / fault with that specific machine.

Thank you for the video. I as well am having a tough time with leaking aRound the brewheAd, and I wonder if I'm over-tamping. You didn't show the grind or tamp for the EC100, so I'm wondering if usIng a very light Tamp or coarser grind might prevent the leak. Thanks for your help.

Leaking around the brewhead could also be an overdosing symptom as there's too much coffee in there for the portafilter to form a seal. You might want to try dosing less ...?

    Hi Kat,

The double porta filter seems a bit small for me, I asked Capresso how many grams of espresso it could take, they answered as 14 grams.

Could you please measure how many grams of espresso grind can double porta filter take?

    Thanks,
