Stop embarrassing mom and dad!). Keep it to the classics - killer vinyl, a new skateboard, and Madcap's Holiday Fusion! The pinnacle of cool, this delicious Holiday Blend of Kenyan and Guatemalan coffees is best enjoyed while jamming out to your favorite record or in between kick flips in your driveway.

    Madcap Coffee Company:
    Holiday Fusion

A little background on the blend from the Madcap team...

Holiday Fusion is 50% Karinga, Kenya and 50% Agua Dulce, Guatemala. The Karinga imparts lots of sweetness and vibrant cranberry acidity and the Agua Dulce adds some nice berry qualities and even more structure, making the cup very full and deep. This coffee is very versatile and can be enjoyed in any brew method. If you are making a pourover, try a 17:1 water to coffee ratio and and shoot for 3-4 minute brew time. If you are making a v60, that time should be closer to 2 1⁄2 - 3 minutes.

"Holiday Light"-ning Q+A Round answered by their crew...

What is your favorite holiday scent? Pine needles and candles
Do you prefer hot chocolate or Egg Nog? Hot chocolate

We're excited to spend twelve days of the month highlighting delicious coffees coming from roasters near and far. All of which are available in the holiday blends section of our website! Reach for a mug and pour yourself a little holiday cheer with your coffee!

    Ruby Coffee Roasters:
    Cheers Holiday Blend

A little background on the blend from the Ruby team...

We look forward to working on Cheers every year and the fourth time around was no different. This year we decided to start with a microlot from Finca de Dios in Fraijanes, Guatemala, which has a nice cakey sweetness and some soft fruits that fit right into our vision. We paired that with Kenya Gachatha and Ethiopia Yabitu Koba to add some wineiness to the cup and take the roast just deep enough to coax out some spice notes. We’ve been brewing it on the Kalita Wave with 32g ground medium-coarse, 500g filtered water, lasting 3:30-4:00. It also makes a seriously decadent French press. Try a 1:16.5 ratio (grounds to water), steeped with very little turbulence for 10+ minutes and make sure to skim the brown muck from the top after breaking the crust. Enjoy with cherished family and friends. Cheers!

"Holiday Light"-ning Q+A Round answered by their crew...

What is your favorite holiday scent? The smell of Cheers in a favorite mug (lame answer, we know)
What is your favorite Christmas movie? Jingle All The Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger
What are your favorite winter activities? Skiing: cross-country, downhill
White lights or colored? Colorful Coffees demand colorful lights! (but only the non-led type)
Gift-wrap or gift bags? Wrap, obviously.
Bows or curly ribbon? Curly ribbons if moms are the ones wrapping.
Steady lights or twinkling? Twinkling, as long as they’re not flashing. A gentle twinkle is magic.
Angel or star tree-topper? Classic star. No questions.
Real tree or artificial? Only real trees in rural Wisconsin. Cut ‘em ourselves then burn in February.
Long needles or short? Whichever is less prickly.

Ruby Coffee Roasters big plans for 2018...

Plenty of tasty coffee! We’ll be continuing to work with many of the same talented and dedicated producers that we worked with this year and in years past. We’re particularly excited for the coffees we have arriving very soon from Burundi--some of the most remarkable and intriguing lots we’ve tasted!

We’re also working on a website redesign, which will create a nicer experience and add functionality that’ll help us serve our customers better.

  • 12 Days of Coffee: Huckleberry Roasters - Sister Winter

    Huckleberry_Text

There's no doubt about it, the holidays can be a stressful time. Get anybody in a room together who have their own differing perspectives and opinions and the possibility of a Christmas themed cage match increase exponentially. Don't let the coffee you serve divide your family! Our friends from Huckleberry Roaster in Denver, CO have taken it upon themselves to craft the perfect uniting holiday blend - Sister Winter. Drop the sibling rivalries and embrace the love over a cup of tasty brew!

We're excited to spend twelve days of the month highlighting delicious coffees coming from roasters near and far. All of which are available in the holiday blends section of our website! Reach for a mug and pour yourself a little holiday cheer with your coffee!

    Huckleberry Roasters:
    Sister Winter

A little background on the blend from the Huckleberry team...

Our annual Sister Winter Holiday Blend gets released as the temperatures begin to drop, the sun fades away earlier and the desire to hunker down with family & friends takes over our souls. Since we hope Sister Winter is shared and enjoyed by the whole family, we roast & blend it intentionally to be a crowd pleaser -- something that a grumpy uncle recovering from too much mulled wine the previous and your 22 year cousin with a brand new barista job can bond over, and enjoy together.  Sister Winter is a blend of two of our favorite coffees from Guatemala (Dona Lucinda from Lake Atitlan) and Ethiopia (a natural processed coffee from Guji, Sidama). It tastes of sweet chocolate, a little sweet & spice and an underlying layer of fruitcake - but the kind of fruitcake that you actually want to eat.

"Holiday Light"-ning Q+A Round answered by their crew...

What is your favorite holiday treat? I'm a Dutch kid (Hup, Holland, Hup!), so I'm partial to these amazing winter/holiday treats called Oliebollen, which are sort of like Dutch donuts, but translates to "fried balls of dough with powdered sugar". I'll allow you to wipe of the drool now.
What are your thoughts on Pumpkin spice? I don't do it often, but when i do it's spectacular. btw, what did pumpkin spice do to deserve all the hate it gets?!
Favorite winter activity? Play in snow with my family and then reward ourselves make boozy warm drinks (for the adults, not the kids!).
Favorite Holiday scent? If i could live semi-permanent fog of mulled wine aroma's, i'd be happy. and probably a little tipsy.
Caroling or sleigh riding? Caroling with nathaniel rateliff and friends at annual top-secret holiday shows (how about that for street cred!?)

Huckleberry Roaster's big plans for 2018...

DAIRY BLOCK! New cafe alert! New cafe alert! It's going to big, it's going to be radical, it's going to be delicious! Come visit us in downtown Denver!

  • 12 Days of Coffee: Kickapoo Coffee Roasters - Revelry Holiday Blend

    Kickapoo_Text

Even Ebenezer Scrooge couldn't deny it, there's just something magical about this time of the year. Memories of snowball fights and holiday caroling, visiting friends and family you see only a few times every year, and weird food like fruitcake characterize this special season. Our friends at Kickapoo Coffee Roasters perfectly captured the wonder of the holidays with their holiday blend Revelry. We're excited to spend twelve days of the month highlighting delicious coffees coming from roasters near and far, all of which are available in the holiday blends section of our website! Reach for a mug and pour yourself a little holiday cheer with your coffee!

    Kickapoo Coffee Roasters:
    Revelry Holiday Blend

A little background on the blend from the Kickapoo team...

Our Organic Revelry Holiday Blend is a combination of both washed and natural process Ethiopian Coffees. The sweet black current/plum fruit profile of the natural processed coffee from Hailu Butiya is balanced well by the bright lime and floral characteristics of the washed Limu Kossa. This is a coffee you’ll want to show off to your holiday guests, while trying to save as much as you can for yourself to brew later.

"Holiday Light"-ning Q+A Round answered by their crew...

What are your favorite holiday treats? Our hometown of Viroqua, WI has a large Amish community. During the holidays, they make a buttery nutty cashew brittle called “Cashew Crunch.” We pick some up for the roastery each year, and it never lasts long.
What is your favorite holiday scent? The smell that hits you as you walk into a warm home where the host has been cooking all day.
Do you prefer hot chocolate or Egg Nog? Hot Chocolate. Maybe throw in a little cayenne in there.
What is your favorite thing about winter? Winter hikes in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve – a beautiful natural preserve that is our company’s namesake. There are miles of trails that have hidden ice caves throughout.
What are your favorite winter activities? Sledding, snuggling, cooking, reading, sauna.
Gift-wrap or gift bags? Gift wrap. What am I, a monster?
    Bows or curly ribbon? Both.
    Steady lights or twinkling? Twinkle.
Real tree or artificial? I appreciate a real tree, though my family has a tradition of putting up the same old artificial tree year after year and then writing a recap of our year right on the box the tree came in. The history of our family is recorded on that cardboard box.
Presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Open one present on Christmas Eve from family. Then put cookies out on the fireplace and reindeer food on the lawn. If you’re good to go to bed early, SANTA WILL COME. Open the rest of the presents Christmas Day.

Kickapoo Coffee Roasters' big plans for 2018...

We will be rolling out our “raise the bar campaign” that will provide more resources for customers looking to learn more about our ongoing efforts to increase farmer compensation. We will also be the “roaster in residency” at the La Marzocco café in Seattle Janurary of 2018, an opportunity we are really looking forward to!

  • 12 Days of Coffee: Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. - Holiday Blend

    Olympia_Text

You know that family member who always nails it when it comes to gift giving during the holidays? The one that foregoes the weird socks or pink bunny costume for something incredible like "an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle." That's pretty much how Olympia Coffee Roasting Company is when they send us their Holiday Blend. Known for consistently nailing it on their diverse blends, this year's holiday offering is no exception! We're excited to spend twelve days of December highlighting some of our favorite holiday blends coming in from the many talented roasters we carry on our site year round! Each a unique combination of flavor profiles.

    Olympia Coffee Roasting Co.:
    Holiday Blend

A little background on the blend from the Olympia team...

The “birth” of coffee two thousand years ago inspired this season's Holiday Blend. Coffee was discovered in the highlands of Ethiopia and spread from there throughout the world, where it now stands as the second-most traded product, binding together countries and cultures.

To best express flavors that have been largely unchanged over the centuries, we've combined two coffees from the Yirgacheffe region. Farmer Adisu Kindane’s natural-processed coffee has been grown and sun-dried in the traditional manner, lending fruity, berry flavors and a bit of spice. And the Adame Garbota Cooperative's fully washed coffee brings forth flavors of plum and citrus zest. This Holiday Blend takes us back to coffee's origins and is a tribute to the dynamic flavors brought forth from its birthplace.

We get tasting notes of berries, citrus zest, and plum.

We love this coffee on a Kalita Pour over, or any traditional coffee maker at home, brewed at 1 to 16 ratio of coffee to water (1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water). We also think it's going to taste best on the morning of your favorite Holiday, especially if you get to enjoy it with friends or family!

"Holiday Light"-ning Q+A Round answered by their crew...

Real tree or artificial? Always real. All about authenticity here!
What are you most excited for this season? We love being a part of so many folks Holiday Gifts, and this year we got some cool merch that we haven't had before, like enamel pins and sweet bike water bottles.
How do you feel about pumpkin spice? Totally cool with it. Drink your coffee however you want! It's not in Olympia Coffee's cafes, but lots of our wholesale partners feature it and I've been known to get one from time to time myself.
What are your favorite holiday treats? I look forward to traditional italian Pizzelle cookies this time every year, but Holiday Blend from Olympia Coffee is seriously a treat I am stoked on every year. Blending is something Oliver, our roast master/green coffee buyer, is really good at but we don't feature a new blend often with such exciting single-origins to talk about.
Presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Always Christmas Day - prolong the anticipation!
Bows or curly ribbon? Bows - so much easier.

Olympia Coffee Roasting Co.'s big plans for 2018...

We're now totally underway with our Reserve Box offerings. These are small experimental or ultra-special coffees that are total stand-outs in our line-up. We featured 4 during 2017 including our first Hawaiian coffee and a few experimental-fermentation Geishas. 2018 is going to bring several more of these that we can't wait to talk about.

    Steady lights or twinkling? Steady!
Angel or star tree-topper? We have a tradition of putting a video game action figure on top of our tree every year. Usually Mario, or Yoshi.

Caroling or sleigh riding? Sleigh riding!
Presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? One day for each family!

    Dogwood's big plans for 2018...

Dogwood is currently in the process of planning a Roaster/Cafe concept that will be really exciting. We are also planning origin trips that will include Africa and our first visit to Peru. There were a lot of great coffees that came to us in 2017 from producers and importers we want to continue growing with, and it will be exciting to see what we can foster in 2018 as we continue to grow in our relationships. The Possibilities are endless!
