49th Parallel Coffee Roasters:
A little background on the blend from the 49th team...
Walking through La Colmena back in February, our green buyer tells us she couldn’t wipe the silly grin o her face. There was just SO. Much. Co ee. This year’s harvest is a true milestone for Arturo, who has been working tirelessly for the past few years to convert his farm to operating as Organic Certi ed. It’s a topic dear to his heart, and it’s always a favourite thing to talk about, usually chatting about what we are growing in our respective vegetable gardens back home in Peña Blanca, and in Vancouver, BC, as we wind up the foothills of Cielito in his truck.
We wish we could take you all to this farm. The pickers are visibly happy, a few with earbuds in, listening to Aventura (think Backstreet boys of Latin America), growing, singing along while picking deep crimson/purple Caturra and Catuai.
We could tell you how much work Arturo puts into making sure his co ee is sweet as honey (hence the name, which means “The Beehive”). We could also tell you, how his focus on soil health has produced his tastiest lot to date with a whopping 50 bag harvest (Triple of what he normally produces), but instead, We think you should just try this co ee for yourselves.
Even back in February, and certainly in May when the bulk of the harvest was ripe, we knew that this co ee would be our Holiday lter lot for 2017. - Happy Holidays!
"Holiday Light"-ning Q+A Round answered by their crew...
What is your favourite part of winter? I like big cozy blankets and seeing snow on the ground in the morning.
What are you favourite Christmas traditions? I'm usually the one singing holliday songs too loudly
Gift wrap or gift bags? There's nothing wrong with a bag, but if you really love someone you'll take the time to wrap a gift. That being said, I usually use gift bags.
Caroling or sleigh ride? Why not both at once?
Presents on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve? Christmas Day. If you open presents on Christmas Eve you're cheating.
What are your favourite winter activities? I like Sneak-attack snowball fights. I'm also not one to say no to a a snow angel competition.
49th Parallel Coffee Roasters' big plans for 2018...
There will be some excellent Huila, Colombia lots coming down the pipeline about a month into the new year…something super special from Burundi, and a few more suprises ?. If you enjoyed any of our coffees from our producer partners this past year, expect that most of them will make an appearance in 2018. That’s our goal - To work with the same producers and continue increasing quality together - For 49th with roasting more and more consistently, and with our producers, implementing more specific and consistent processing and drying protocols together so we can continue to bring great coffees to you!
