Overview

Quick coffee drinkers rejoice! the Bonavita BV1901GS brings the same high-quality brewing technology you've come to expect from Bonavita with the added convenience of a glass carafe and a warming plate. In addition to the wide dispersion, flat basket and optimal brew temperature, you also get a hot plate with a 40-minute timer and a new alarm function that lets you know when your coffee is ready!

Features and Functionality

  • Brew Temperature - A brew temperature right in the sweet spot (198 to 205 degrees) means delicious cups every time.
  • Brew Basket - A wide dispersion screen and flat brew basket aid in evenly extracting coffee grounds.
  • Optional Bloom - Press and hold the on/off toggle to activate a 30-second bloom function.
  • Brew Alarm - A short beep sounds once the last water exits the brew head.
  • Glass Carafe - A teardrop-shaped glass carafe offers easy pouring and serving.
  • Hot Plate - Calibrated to 185 degrees, the built-in nonstick hot plate features a 40-minute auto-off timer.
Pros
  • Glass Carafe - Added options are always welcome, and those who can taste the difference between glass and stainless steel vessels will be very happy with the change.
  • Hot Cups - Our test unit ran a toasty 202° at the brew head, delivering a perfect-drinking 185° at both the carafe and hot plate.
  • Sound Off! - The new beeping alarm is a nice little pick-me-up to the already stellar design of other Bonavita brewers.
Cons
  • Brew Basket - We still dislike that the basket sits directly in the carafe, compounded by the fact that you can now see the basket's fins through the glass.
How Does it Compare?

Just like the venerable stainless steel model BV1800T, but with a glass carafe! The 1901GS also adds an audible alarm sound and has an optional double-wall glass carafe.

Tips and Tricks

Pro-tip: a 6-cup Chemex will fit underneath the Bonavita's brew dispersion screen.

Does the basket take a #4 cone filter like the BV1800 did?
Thomas S on Apr 30, 2017
Best Answer: Hello!

Nope, this Bonavita takes standard 8-12 cup flat bottom paper filers, like these: https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/melitta-white-basket-coffee-filter-for-8-12-cup-coffee-makers-100-count

Help! Can't decide between 1901GW and 1900TS. Seems like main complaint is that burner can make coffee taste bad. But Stainless carafe doesn't keep coffee hot long enough. MY main thing is I like HOT coffee. I tire of putting my coffee in the microwave to warm it up. Sounds like glass carafe is easier to keep clean? I have a nice Zojirushi stainless carafe to put coffee into if it becomes an issue.

Best Answer: Hello!

The real answer to the question is, how much coffee do you drink in one sitting, and how long does it take you?

The burner on this coffee maker sits at right around 185 degrees, which is about the final brew temp of the coffee. But it has an automatic 40-minute auto-off.

Have you considered multiple coffee batches in the Bonavita 5 cup? They're smaller, but after the first batch your stainless steel carafe will be pre-warmed, which means it insulates much better and stays hotter longer.
