A Note About Coffee & Cups

Let us break it down for you: Although 8 ounces equals a cup in the baking world, a US cup of coffee is measured at 6 ounces and a European cup of coffee is measured at 4.25 ounces. This is why we sometimes list ounces to paint a more accurate picture of capacity.

what temperature does it heat the water to? Boiling?
John B on Apr 7, 2016
Best Answer: Hey John,

Yes, the kettle heats to boiling and then the heating mechanism switches off. This comes with an audible "flip" of the switch that you depress in order to start the boiling process. Now, the internal settings might be to a few degrees higher or lower than boiling temp, but I'm not aware of it. Shortly after I hear the kettle start to boil, the heating turns off. You can definitely purchase electric kettles for which you can choose specific temperatures, but this is not that kettle. Those kettles are also a great deal more expensive. Hope this helps!

How fast does the water come to a boil?
A shopper on May 15, 2013
Best Answer: I timed it the first time I used the kettle and I think it was just under 5 minutes for the full liter but I’m not positive. I know that when I get it started and set up everything else for my french press that the water is ready about the time I have the other stuff ready to go. It’s very fast.

is this a variable temperature kettle?
A shopper on May 12, 2016
Best Answer: This particular one isn't, but there is a variable temp. model available on the site. I personally own one and it works great.

Is the black handle protruding into the water area? This means that the water is in contact with some material other than stainles steel?
Begemotik on Oct 28, 2013
Best Answer: Though the black handle does attach into the interior of the Bonavita Electric Pour Over Kettle, it attaches above the Maximum Water fill level line. For this reason, the water should not come into contact with anything but stainless steel.

I saw this kettle said $47.00 plus free shipping from your website. So I wanted to order it, but when I began to fill out the shipping info it didn't give a free shipping option. Why does shipping cost $10-$20 if you say free shipping?
A shopper on Aug 8, 2015
Best Answer: I think you and I spoke on the phone. Free shipping applies when your order reaches $49 or higher

When brewing with a pour over, I typically brew to fill a quart sized carafe. I tried the Hario v60, but that barely holds 1L to boil despite being advertised as a 1.2L kettle (might hold 1.2, but that is 1.2L to the brim).

Will this kettle actually fill a quart-sized carafe fully? I ask because some water stays in the pour over. That is why I tried the Hario first. If it could boil 1.2L, that would be 1L p plus 0.2L for the pour over.
A C on Jun 9, 2015
Best Answer: This kettle is precisely 1L, so there is no extra for the pour over. You may find this to not quite fully fill your quart-sized carafe.

Where is this teapot made??? Do you have any made someplace other than China?
A shopper on Dec 2, 2014
Best Answer: The Bonavita kettles are made in China, as are most of the other brands of kettles that we carry. The only one that I could find that was not was the Hario Buono kettle, which is made in Japan.

Does this kettle hold the temperature?
A shopper on Nov 20, 2014
Best Answer: No, unfortunately the Bonavita Electric Pour Over Kettle does not hold temperature and turns off automatically once water comes to a boil. For an option that does hold your temperature and can be programmed to a variety of different temperatures, check out the Bonavita Gooseneck Variable Temperature Kettle.

Love it, But!Review by Ben
Heats quickly, compact. Easy to use and clean. Leaked at the base right out of the box. Waiting for Warranty review and replacement.... We will see.

Great Function. Poor Durability. Review by Andrew
I love the way this bBonavita functions. It heats water quickly, looks great, and pours perfectly for a pour over.

I've had a pretty poor experience in terms of quality.

The first unit I got had a crack at the base of the handle, where it attaches to the kettle, and leaked right out of the box. Of course Seattle Coffee Gear was great about quickly shipping a replacement.

Now, after ten months of use, the replacement unit has developed a leak from the bottom of the pot. I've submitted a warranty claim to Bonavita, and we'll see how that goes.

My last electric kettle (a Cuisinart) lasted for nearly two decades of daily use. I've gone through two of these in less than a year. (Posted on 4/13/2016)
Great kettleReview by slap7600
I love everything about this kettle so far, it has a great feel in your hand and pours very nice and is very fast at heating water. (Posted on 3/19/2014)
Excellent for pour over coffee prepsReview by Howdy Greg
This was purchased for large pour overs and Aero press coffee and it has made life much easier. My old kettle dribbled all over the counter and gave me no control. This Bonavita kettle is exactly the opposite, I have fine control over the pour and don't lose a drop. Now I wish that I had sprung for the model with temperature control, even though it seems a little pricey. (Posted on 11/25/2013)
Great kettle.Review by terry
I decided to get the kettle because I wanted to simplify the operation, pour water in the kettle, heat and pour water onto my coffee and zowie! Great coffee. I read the reviews and was going to buy a fancier kettle and decided on this one for convenience. I'm amazed by the slower pouring rate and ease of control. I thought all that was in the mind of the aficionados, but now I am one. Love the pour, love the pot and my coffee with a little plastic melitta thingy is great. (Posted on 5/31/2013)
Works very well and looks greatReview by Mark S
This kettle boils water very quickly (liter in around 5 minutes) and looks great. The spout gives total control of the pour and even if you don’t necessarily need that, it still makes pouring boiling water much safer. (Posted on 5/15/2013)
Good applianceReview by whs
We wanted a kettle with a good spout and this one met our needs. Seattle Coffee Gear also showed good service. (Posted on 2/22/2013)
Very useful applianceReview by RhondaBeck
I love this kettle...I wanted to get something for my office and thought I needed two separate pieces: a pour over kettle and an electric water kettle...but when I saw the Bonavita Electric Pour Over Kettle I knew it would be just what I needed. My pour over coffee ritual has reached new levels of awesome flavor. Water heats up very fast, shuts off once it reaches boiling, and the kettle holds about two mugs worth of water. The skinny spout makes it very easy to control where and how much hot water flows over your grounds. Best cuppa coffee I've ever made! (Posted on 8/11/2012)
Simple and effectiveReview by Bay Area Bob
This electric kettle is used primarily for pour over coffee but is practical for all kettle uses. It is well made and simple to operate.

Easy To Use, Quiet, Easy To Clean, Quick Brewing, Perfect spout
