Is it any plastic or silicone inside kettle that gets in contact with the water?
A shopper on Nov 20, 2013
Best Answer: Yes, unfortunately there is a small particle screen at the pour spout of this Bonavita Variable Temperature Kettle that has a plastic border, but it is BPA Free. For an alternative without plastic pieces inside, check out the Gooseneck Bonavita Kettle at the link below:

How low does the temp go? I'd like to use it for baby bottles. They made a kettle specifically for this (98 degrees) but mine broke and they no longer make them. :(
Thanks!
Sherry H on Apr 3, 2014

Hi! Thinking about getting an electric kettle for outdoor pour-overs at a Farmer's Market. It's a lot safer than a camper stove! But can this kettle survive boiling water for four straight hours once a week, or will it bust? Any recommendations on kettles that will withstand the pressure?
Dowe P on Apr 1, 2014
Best Answer: I think that this Bonavita Variable Temperature would do an alright job for you for a time, but unfortunately that level of usage is pretty high for any of the kettles we offer, and so I am not sure just how long it would last for you. Sorry I can't give you better advice on this, but if you have further questions you can give us a call to speak with commercial sales at 866-372-4734.

Is the exterior cool to touch?
Lily C on Feb 28, 2014
Best Answer: The black plastic pieces- so the base, lid and handle- will remain cool to the touch, but once heated, the aluminum of this Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle does get hot.

Great kettle, short cordReview by Lynne

Great kettle so far. It's very easy to program the temp and once it gets there it holds within 2 or 3 degrees. I appreciate that Bonavita includes a thick plastic cover for the base to guard against spills (always a good thing to have for electronics!) and to help keep the base clean.

The only other electric kettle I have ever owned is my also recently purchased Bonavoyage (which I love) so I can't compare it's speed or features to other kettles of this type. It does seem to heat up very fast and it also has a mesh filter over the spout which is great for loose leaf tea. So far I'm very happy with it.

Once it's up to temp, it does make the occasional clicking noise. I called Seattle Coffee Gear's customer service and they said it is likely the heating element turning on and off to keep the temp constant, which made sense given what I'm hearing. I don't know if all electric kettles do this, but just in case you hear a clicking....

Also, one other thing to be aware of is that the cord is very short compared to other appliances. It's just over a foot long, so it will need to be near an outlet. (Posted on 11/26/2013)
Well Designed, Fast, Good PriceReview by John

This is everything I was looking for in an electric kettle. The features and price of this kettle are more than competative, but Bonavita seems to be a rather new company without much of a track record. After doing some research and finding almost all good reviews, I went ahead and puchased it.

It heats very fast due to its 1500 watt rating -- much faster than .than my 1100 watt microwave or electic stove. Setting the temperature is very easy with its six presets and user adjustable degree by degree adjustment. The last temperature you set is remember the next time it's turned it on. The temperature LED readout is easy to see and spot on according to my two thermometers. By pressing the hold button the kettle will hold the water at the set temperature for one hour.

It's attractive on the counter, and comfortable in the hand. The interior is all stainless steal and imparts no taste to the water. The bottom never gets hot, but the side does. I'm using the built in count up timer more and more. The level indicator is easy enough to see in good light. The kettle appears to be well made. I've been using it at least two or three times a day since I got it a month ago for AeroPress and "Cleaver" coffee; and green and black tea.

If this kettle hold up as well as I expect it to, it will have been a great purchase.
