How Does it Compare?

The nose knows! Smells great as soon as you snip open this big ol' bag of beans. As a drip brewing prep it is smooth and easy drinking with a light acidity and a barely detectable hint of cinnamon and campfire. Play with grind size until you get a balanced flavor. It took us a few tries and a finer grind than we anticipated using the drip method.

Tips and Tricks

How fast do you go through 2.2 pounds of coffee beans? You may consider a set of Airscape canisters to keep things fresh!

Is this roast ok to use in my super automatic?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2015
Best Answer: I opened the package of crema e aroma and noticed there is a little bit of shine from the oil on the surface of the bean. Would this bean be too oily for my superautomatic?

Hi everyone!

On many of the forums, there have been rave reviews over the crema produced by this bean but little information on the equipment used and the storage of the beans.

1. 1 kilo of coffee beans is a pretty chunky volume that is going to last a while. I'm thinking of getting an airscape canister along with my first order of these beans, but would like hearing how others have addressed the storage issue first.

2. I would especially like to hear the experiences with this product from those that have used this product with the Saeco Aroma espresso machine and/or the Baratza Encore grinder (or comparable equipment) ?

Many thanks,
Dan A on Jun 12, 2013
Best Answer: Dan,

I use an AirScape and I have purchased this Lavzazza product in the past. Beyond that, my first good Espresso Machine was a Saeco Aroma.

I will address of each of your questions in order.

1. An Airscape canister does a good job of keeping your beans fresh, but nothing keeps beans fresh forever. Also, because the Airscape gets coated with Coffee Bean oil, you need to clean all the parts about once a month to keep everything tasting good. As a general rule, it is best not to buy too much coffee all at once, but I have purchased large amounts too just to save some money.

2. This Lavazza blend is a little on the earthy side. Depending on your desired taste, you may like an earthy taste, but I really like a coffee that delivers a slightly sweet taste. I used these beans to both make espresso and drip coffee and it does a pretty good job for both methods.

The Saeco Aroma is a great machine for the price. I have tried several Lavazza coffees with the Aroma and my favorites were the pre-ground Espresso Brick and the Il Perfeto products.

The main reason I upgraded to something else was the slow speed of steaming milk. For Espresso and Americanos, this machine is great. If you dislike temperature surfing or waiting a long to time make espresso drinks, you may want to upgrade to a better machine. Of course, a better espresso machine may require a better grinder.

Hope this helps.

Are the bags of coffee beans stamped with date of roast or last date of sale?
Mary M on Feb 17, 2017
Best Answer: These have expiration dates, as they are all nitrogen flushed.

Hope this helps!

Michel P on Nov 16, 2015
Best Answer: No it does not contain any cream, Crema is a lighter colored liquid that is produced from the coffee during the extraction process for an espresso.

smooth expressoReview by JD
Tried these beans on the recommendation of the Breville Oracle salesperson and I must say, she was right. This is an excellent bean to go with the machine. My wife and I enjoy it so much. (Posted on 5/8/2014)

great coffeeReview by euro coffee lover
Received Velton's Bonsai Blend espresso beans as a free gift when I purchased my Saeco Intelia espresso machine, and we love the coffee. My son could tell the difference right away. I will purchase the coffee. Perfect blend, perfect taste, just right. (Posted on 11/7/2013)
Super Enjoyable!Review by Madie
I've been drinking coffee since graduating from high school. 1 or 2 cups a day, either an espresso or cappuccino size cups. Being from Europe, Lavazza is my favorite brand, although I've tried many others. I switch between the Super Crema, Grand Espresso, and Crema e Aroma. I have a DeLonghi Espresso Machine that uses whole beans and has 5 settings for the coffee output: extra strong, strong, regular, mild and extra mild. The Crema e Aroma is an excellent quality coffee beans, and the cup of coffee is exactly what it says: creamy and fragrant. If you have never had coffee before, this is a good one to start with. I have offered Crema e Aroma coffee to guests who liked it black and told me that when the coffee has such a good quality like that, you can easily drink it straight. People who have written a negative review for this brand must have prepared it poorly as there is not even one person of my circle who has ever disliked it. The price is unbeatable, as I used to buy it from an Italian grocer for $32 a bag (What a big difference, right?!) and the delivery was prompt. I used to order Lavazza from another vendor but this is the lowest ever price I've found. Thank you for your service! (Posted on 10/29/2013)
Don't buy!!!Review by Arabica
This coffee is a blend of 70% robusta & only 30% of arabica. I tossed it to the garbage can as soon as I saw it! You don't respect yourself and don't like the real coffee if you consume robusta beans! My fault I didn't research enough about this particular blend before buying it. (Posted on 10/18/2013)
Almost as good as the RossaReview by Joe
but I REALLY like the Rossa! I'm making my way through the Lavazzas in my YouBrew (too busy for press or espresso lately), starting with this and the Rossa. As drip coffee, the CeA smells incredible, and it tastes great as well, with a full flavor (even with cream and sugar) that is head and shoulders better than most of the coffee I've ever had. However, I think the Rossa does a better job following through with the depth and strength of flavor. If you spend more time with your nose in the cup enjoying the aroma than you actually do sipping your coffee, this may be the perfect bean for you. (Posted on 9/20/2013)

TastyReview by Edward W
This was my first time ever buying Lavazza coffee. Price was good in my eyes, and coffee seamed pretty consistent. I would buy this again. Only made coffee with this - no espresso this time. (Posted on 8/26/2013)
Excellent CoffeeReview by Rainieann
After spending time in Europe enjoying espresso, I needed to upgrade my coffee at home. I found Seattle Coffee Gear online and headed there from NE Tacoma the day after my return from Germany. I was ready to spend some serious money. To my surprise, I was guided to the best coffee system for me at a quarter of the price I expected to pay.

Then, there was the coffee. Since my purchase, I have tried several kinds. This remains my favorite by far! (Posted on 8/22/2013)
excellent espresso roastReview by mas cafe
A little strong or robust drunk alone, but excellent flavor with a little milk. i would like to know where the Italians get their beans though. (Posted on 8/21/2013)
Great ValueReview by DanFromRioRancho
Good flavor + good crema + good price = great value.

I'm about halfway through my first kilo and will be placing my replacement order (same product) tomorrow. (Posted on 7/12/2013)
Decent replacement for Gold SelectionReview by David
I started using this because SCG can no longer get the Lavazza Gold Selection. This is a really good coffee. Great flavor and aroma. I do wish it was a bit heavier on the Arabica but overall it's a good coffee for either iced for hot lattes.

Not my favorite Lavazza coffeeReview by Home Barista Wantabee
In the past, I have really liked the Lavazza coffee that I have purchased, but this coffee is not as good as some of the other Lavazza coffees I have ordered. The price is good and it does produce a lot of crema, but the taste and the aroma are not as good as I expected. It is not a bad coffee, but I won't be purchasing it again.

This coffee is mostly robusta so that might explain why I don't like it as much as other coffee blends. (Posted on 3/26/2013)
Good CoffeeReview by AttitudeXX
For Lavazza, i would give this coffee a 8.5/10. It is a bit acidic for my tastes, but when tamed by milk, still produces a great cup. (Posted on 3/6/2013)
Can you say crema!Review by KC
I really like this bean. Its not weak, great aroma and the crema is thick and delicious! Thank you Teri for recommending it to me! (Posted on 2/2/2013)
