Product Description

Cleaning your coffee maker and espresso machine frequently is essential for flawless performance each and every time. The Urnex Dezcal Coffee/Espresso Machine Descaler is formulated to descale your home coffee maker and espresso machine efficiently and effectively. Even when using filtered water in your machines, mineral deposits can slowly build up in the hot water tank or boiler and other internal components. The result? Poor performance — clogged water tubes, reduced brew temperature and extended brew time.

Is it necessary to use both a descaler and cleaner on my Saeco superautomatic espresso maker? Eg. - Dezcal & Cleancaf? Or will descaling also clean?

Best Answer: Descaling cleans your superautomatic. Cleancaf is more for drip brewers. You just need the Dezcal

Will this work safely on my Gaggia Classic?
A shopper on Mar 18, 2015
Best Answer: This is a general descaler solution that will work on most machines, however, we recommend checking your manual to find out what your machine prefers.

Nuova Simonelli Musica here. Finally after about a year of almost daily use, I'm FINALLY going to descale and backflush. Then start doing it regularly. My question is when descaling for first time after too much time not doing it, is it best to run tank through brew head only, and leave solution overnight? Finish tank next day, rinse? Then should I immediately follow another descale routine at 20 minute increments going through steam wand, rinse twice to finish? I don't want to clog steam wand with scale the first time around.
A shopper on Aug 19, 2015
Best Answer: It's actually not recommended to descale your machine as it is a heat exchanger. We recommend having it descaled professionally once every 2-3 years. Other than that, to avoid scale build up, use softened water

On the Rocket R58 the internals of the E61 grouphead are chromed - since Dezcal can remove chrome plating, what is the recommended descaling procedure for the R58 or a similar E61 type machine?

Best Answer: Rocket actually no longer recommends descaling your machine. Instead, you want to be using an inline water filter so that you don't need to descale.

Can the Dezcal/water solution be left in a Technivorm Moccamaster CDT reservoir for a short period of time (say 10 minutes) for better scale removal WITHOUT damaging the clear plastic housing and chrome float cover? I've used this and Cleancaf back to back with one tank of water in between. I ran the machine without letting the solutions sit per instructions. A week later, the machine does not want to start again. The float is clear of debris. I have used Durgol Swiss Espresso in the past, let it sit for 10 minutes and it tarnished the chrome float cover and etched the clear plastic. I don't want that to happen again, but I want a thorough descaling. It had been about a year since I last descaled. I use purified (not distilled) bottled water 99% of the time. Thank you for your response in advance!

Best Answer: I would recommend, if you're wanting to let the descaler sit in the machine's water pathways for a little longer to allow it to break down any scale buildup, to put the descaler mixture into the machine in batches. I believe that given time to sit in the water tank, you can see a bit of tarnishing to that chrome-plated piece no matter the brand of descaler. So, to work around this, try making your water and descaler mixture in a separate bowl/container. Then, put about 1/3 into the tank, turn on the machine, and allow what's in the tank to be brewed, pulled into the machine. Once the water tank is clear, turn off the brewer, allow it to sit for 20 minutes, then repeat with another 1/3 of the mixture, then finally with the last 1/3. Afterward, brew two full tanks of water through to thoroughly rinse the brewer and all the pathways.

Just want to make sure: is Dezscal a good product for our Nouva Simonelli Oscar Professional pour over? Thanks!
Colleen E on Oct 19, 2014
Best Answer: We don't recommend descaling the Nuova Simonelli Oscar at home since it does not have a hot water valve for dispensing water. We found that it was too difficult to completely flush out the descaler via the brew head, and so we now recommend professional descaling only for that unit.

In the video it is mentioned that it can possibly etch chrome plated objects. Would it be advisable to run it straight out of the head rather than through a portafilter if you have a chrome plated PF? Or will portafilters also accumulate scale and require descaling at the same interval?
Vincent on Jul 31, 2014
Best Answer: Since water runs through your portafilter but does not sit in it for prolonged periods of time the way water sits in a boiler, you should not really have a scale issue within your portafilter. For this reason, we typically remove the portafilter before descaling and instead run Dezcal right from your brew head.

I have a Delonghi Magnifica 3500 that is no longer under warranty. I realize that Delonghi recommends their own descaling fluids, but would this product work just as well?

Would there be any ill effects to my machine if I were to use Dezcal? The savings would be quite significant.
philip c on Jul 8, 2014
Best Answer: While under warranty, we recommend using each manufacturers' specified maintenance products, and for Delonghi, that is Durgol. However, Dezcal is most certainly a more cost effective alternative and we have found that it does an equally good job at removing scale buildup. Using Dezcal will not harm your machine in any way when used for descaling.

I have used Dezcal to clean my Techniform coffee maker and have been very happy with it.

Is it the right product to use to clean and descale my teapot? I don't have much room to get inside to scrub it.
CharleyK on Jan 23, 2014
Best Answer: While you can certainly use a product like Dezcal to descale a tea pot, it will only remove scale and won't clean at the same time. I might suggest a cleaner and descaler like Cleancaf, or if you just want to descale use Dezcal, or just clean, using a cleaner made specifically for removing tea build up like the Revive Organic Tea Cleaner. Very easy to use. I purchased this because my office Delonghi automatic expresso maker got stopped up. Turns out, it was something gummed up inside the machine, not calcifications, so cleaning the inside parts manually are what did the trick. However, having this product motivated my husband to come in and fix my machine.

Easy to follow directions. I'd suggest using the concentrated commercial strength directions initially. This product really works well. I had an old espresso machine that had buildup to the point that the pump worked but no water came out. I almost bought a new machine but tried Dezcal first(1packet then a second packet) and have continued using the machine every day with quarterly 1 packet Dezcal tuneups......saved me a ton of money..sorry Gail and Kat!

Pros:
Easy To Use, Commercial Grade

Without stripping down the machine I am assuming that the descale solution is doing its job. The light came on one week after my refurb Saeco Talea Giro arrived, which was a surprise considering I was using double filtered water, but it went off after descaling with this stuff and has not come back on again since. So, I guess it is happy now!

Durgol better but Dezcal still quite gooReview by BryanJensen

Durgol decalcifier seems to work quicker, better and with less mess. However two cleanings is about $12, if I get it on discount.Dezcal requires extra dissolving and running more volume through the machine with a longer rinse time. It still seems to work quite nice but not quite as good as Durgol. But at[$] for 4 treatments I think the effectiveness is close enough to Durgol and extra time worth the savings.

Pros:
Commercial Grade

Cons:
Messy (Posted on 12/1/2011)

I had de-scaled my espresso machine couple of weeks ago with a different product thinking it would take care of the scale build up, I was wrong. The steam pressure was getting kind of weak so I thought it would be a good idea to try this out. I ended up getting this product and followed Gail's instructions from youtube video on how to use this product. Boy did it help; stuff came flowing out of my espresso machine as though I hadn't cleaned it in months. Now the pressure is back to normal and I couldn't be happier.
