Recommended Brew Methods

Start with a 16:1 water-to-coffee ratio for your dosing. You’ll want a medium grind size for drip brewing that’s finer than what you’d use for pourover. Make sure you give the filter basket a shake to evenly distribute the grounds in the filter for best results. Turn on your brewer and it’ll do the rest!

For a French Press brew we recommend a 1:12 coffee to water ratio with coffee ground at the consistency of sea salt. Add your grounds to the brewing chamber. then add twice the water as there are grounds to the chamber. Stir gently and allow to bloom for about 30 seconds. Place the top on the press and allow it to steep for 4 minutes. Plunge the press slowly and enjoy!

Superautos make brewing espresso easy. All you need to do is add beans to the hopper and press a button to pull yourself a shot. If your shot is a bit sour you’ll want to dial the grinder a little bit finer and try again. If it’s bitter, dial it a little coarser. You can find instructions on how to do this for your machine in the manual. Just remember to avoid oily beans that can clog your superauto’s grinder!

About The Roaster

Roasted Fresh in San Rafael, California

Created by business partners Brooke McDonnell and Helen Russell in 1995, Equator Coffee & Teas started in a garage in Marin County, California, and is now one of the most beloved roasters in the Golden State. What turned Equator from a small-scale, garage-based coffee roaster to the powerhouse micro-roaster it is today? It all comes down to their ability to build lasting relationships with the farmers who grow their beans, most of whom live in South America, Central America and Africa.
