How Does it Compare?
"The latest and the greatest" says Gail. There are more drink choices with this machine and it's easy to program. The illuminated lights under the dispensers really help you focus on the job at hand, especially on those early mornings before you've had your first cup!
Tips and Tricks
We suggest that you clean all the milk components thoroughly after each use.
I had some problems initially with it, but that resolved after calling customer service: the manual doesn't tell you not to grind your coffee on the fine setting or it will clog the brewing system after several coffees. After switching the setting I've had no more problems. Makes excellent espresso and cappuccino.
Hi, We bought the J9 for the office because of the ease of use. Pretty much everyone tell me that the milk is not hot enough. I understand that those superauto never do very hot milk. Is there a way to use a regular pannarello with this machine ? Do I just have to select MILK from the menu and put like 30 sec to have enough time to froth the milk manually ?.
Best Answer:Unfortunately, none of the superautomatics that produce frothed milk directly into your drink are hot enough for most people. The J-9 does not have a manual steaming option since it has the one-touch offerings.
Ray m : we have a jura j9 unit. has anyone had any experience using dark roast beans? the manufacturer recommends not using dark roast, but we enjoy the full body flavor of dark roast, but do not want machine problems down the road.
A shopper on Sep 11, 2014
Best Answer:Unfortunately using a dark roast bean in any super automatic machine like this Jura J9 can cause clogging in the grinder and internal brewing unit. This is because the longer that a bean is roasted the more surface oils there will be present, and these oils can collect and harden over time. For this reason we always recommend a dry roast, matte finish bean. If you use a darker roast then you may have more maintenance involved and need more service on the machine, as the grinder and brew unit are not accessible for at home cleaning. I would suggest the Lavazza Grand Espresso Bean if you like a bold flavored bean that is not oily and safer for your super automatic machine.
Hello Teri: i have just read your very helpful reply here. Is it the brew unit or the grinder which can clog with a dark roast bean/oily bean? Do most other brands allow me to remove and clean both the brew unit and the grinder to prevent clogging? is it a matter of experimenting to figure out if the bean i use will not clog the machine? I too, like a dark roast bean, and if i can test out several beans that would be great, but i would not want to have to send the machine back for servicing if it clogs. thanks.
Unfortunately both the brew unit and the grinder can clog from an oily bean, and the downside to a super automatic machine is that there is not really an option for removing the grinder to clean it. Jura brand machines do not have removable brew units, however Saeco and DeLonghi machines do. This would allow you to remove this piece to rinse it free of grounds and some surface oils, but we still recommend a non oily, matte finish bean for best results in your super automatic machine. Rather than experimenting with different types of beans, it is best to purchase a medium or light roast and be sure that the surface is not shiny, but a matte finish before adding it to your machine. Hope this helps!
Best Answer:The differences appear to be: 1) size of water tank (71 vs 96 oz) 2) 1 thermoblock vs 2 3) bean capacity (8 oz vs 10 oz)
If you are one or two folks using the machine the J9 should be fine. I have had it for a few days now and am liking it a lot (one person). Daily-end-of-day milk frother cleaning before shutdown takes less than 5 minutes. J9 also apears to have more displays/pictures.
Does this model come with the milk hose or does that need to be purchased seperately? I am also wondering if this attachment (Professional Fine Foam Frother) listed on the manufacturer's website as an add-on accessory is really necessary, how does the stock attachment that is included in the original packaging compare?
Best Answer:It depends on the model you choose. If you like the silver appearance, which matches the side casing of the machine, choose that one. However, if you would like the mirror finish, choose the chrome option, which will have a chrome overlay to the plastic front of the machine. Just keep in mind that with the chrome color, you may have to clean off fingerprints or coffee drops a bit more frequently since it will be a shiny face!
Best Answer:The nice thing about these machines is that you can program the volume of water than you would like to brew, anywhere from 1/2 ounce to 8 ounces. If you choose to brew 2 coffees, then you could get up to 16 ounces, as the machine will then dispense up to 8 ounces out of each spout, so putting one cup underneath the two spouts could collect up to 16 ounces. If you're using the milk side, where both milk and coffee will be dispensed into your cup, then you can get up to 8 ounces of coffee, plus whatever amount of milk that you'd like.
If you're looking for cup clearance, then the tallest cup that can fit underneath the main spouts in the center would be 4.375" and beneath the milk/coffee dispenser on the left side is 6.25".
Best Answer:You can certainly use this Jura J9 machine to just make coffee, but if you don't need additional features and programming then you may want to consider a less expensive model like the Jura C60 found at the link below. It will produce the same espresso shots and long coffees as this J9!
What is the minimum undercounter clearance required for the J9? It appears that the water container has a slight wedge shape that may allow the container to be removed and reinserted without fully lifting it out of the unit. Mike T
Best Answer:Yes, Mike, you are correct and the tank can be pulled out to the side without needing to be pulled straight up. I think the shortest height is probably about 18" for the lid to pivot open and the removal of the water tank.
What are the exact steps to clean the milk frother?
A shopper on Jul 4, 2014
Best Answer:There are a couple ways to clean the frother for the Jura Impressa J9. The first 2 are to use the machine to clean the frothing components. You can choose to rinse the cappuccino system (which is requested after every milk-based drink is performed), or clean the cappuccino system (should be done daily, using the Jura milk cleaning solution), or you can disassemble and rinse the cappuccino frother components.
If you would like to disassemble and rinse the individual parts, the instructions can be found on page 34 of the manual. Pull the cappuccino frother down and off of the machine, carefully pull apart the components (4 pieces), rinse each part and clean well, then reassemble it back onto the machine. This would be a more intensive cleaning, every few days or weekly, to make sure that you don't accumulate any milk buildup that could impede normal operation of steaming and frothing.
Can this machine be directly plumbed into a water line? Thanks.
A shopper on Jun 18, 2014
Best Answer:No, unfortunately we do not offer any Jura machines that can be direct plumbed into a water line. This J9 water tank is pretty large, though, at 71 ounces. An alternative option would be the Jura XJ9, with a 135oz water tank.
Color for the J9 (chrome or Silver): which one does not scratch? which one seems better ? vince
A shopper on Feb 12, 2013
Best Answer:The "chrome" is actually plastic, and it does scratches easily. The other finish is a silver-gray powder-coat paint that does not. The larger question is, is the painted version worth several hundred dollars? In my opinion.... No.

Caring for the Jura Impressa J9 One Touch
Descale every two to three months. We recommend using Jura Descaling Tablets
Soap out water tank (if applicable) and drip tray every few days
We are now officially spoiled beyond repair, the only thing this machine does not do is add the syrup. ok. Regular coffee is good and hot. Latte/Caps are so easy to make. External milk container surprisingly easy to use. You MUST play with milk/coffee settings to find what is right for you, it takes several days of drinking- but hey that's ok! Yes, it IS a pricey unit. I hope the video screen holds up over time and the lid is hard to get off the milk container when its cold, but honestly, those are minor issues. This is our 4th machine, our second Jura( had Jura, Gaggia and Bosch prior). we came back to Jura! (Posted on 10/21/2014)
Milk for cap. not hotReview by Emanuel
Just have this machine, before Nespresso. Espresso is very good foam from cap. good but not very warm. Machine looks great. (Posted on 5/26/2014)
jura i love you!Review by and the heavens spoke
Sublime design. This is my second Jura. First one 10 years ago is still going strong. But for the house in the country -which is freshly renovated I went wild and bought this fine piece of divinity to complete my kitchen in style. Perrrfect steaming hot cup of latte. then ristretto. Then cuppuccino then espresso.. i am a bit jumpy now because i couldn't help myself this morning but test every coffee with my husband! At first he thought i was a lunatic when i said i spent 2400 bucks to buy this new Jura. That was until I showed him quickly the math- that i stop by the country coffee shop twice a day and 7 bucks a pop. that adds up to a whopping 5,200 bucks a year. Since my last impressa Jura is still going with - knock on wood- NO PROBLEMS (i do maintain it well descaling, filters etc.) I am overjoyed with this one. it is more beautiful than the last one. A very divine looking object which gives liquid gold! Bravo Jura on form meets function! I love the customer service too at Seatle Coffee Gear i am happy I bought from you guys! (Posted on 4/18/2014)
Jura J9, Oh dear........Review by Pond44
Researched for a long time and decided on the J9, bad move!
Milk temperature is no where hot enough even if you use their cup warmer, complained to the company, they took it back for a test, I thought they would find something wrong but no it was to their standard. It is a nice looking machine makes good blacks but we don't bother using it to make milk coffees anymore, it was an embarrassment to serve coffee to friends, so we just make a black and add milk.
Not recommended by me. (Posted on 1/16/2014)
Enjoyable and FoolproofReview by Eileen
I purchased this machine as a Christmas gift to myself and have thoroughly enjoyed everything about it. It is very pretty to look at and is a nice addition to my kitchen. While I was intrigued by the real espresso machines with the portafilters, steam wands, dials etc. I knew I would do nothing but look at it and never really appreciate its abilities. The Jura machines seemed to be more my speed with the ability to make milk based drinks which I enjoy. I am still experimenting with the settings for different types of drinks but this machine seems pretty foolproof. It has become a ritual for my young grandsons to have a hot chocolate after swimming. Turn the A/C down, fire on,bundle up and make hot chocolate. Best you can do in Florida in the winter! Great entertainment and family time. This may be a bit superficial for true coffee affiicionados but as SCG reminds us there is something for everyone and this is a great something for my needs. (Posted on 1/7/2014)
temperatureReview by sylvain
the temperature seem to be the biggest problem. capuccino not hot enough, milk medium about 45 C. the taste of the coffee is very good, but for the price i don't want a medium coffee. (Posted on 10/29/2013)
Expensive, but well worth itReview by Kirsten
The J9 has everything needed to make a large variety of hot beverages that require hot water and/or hot milk. The coffee is super creamy and has a very good flavor. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. Strength and quantity of your coffee is easy to program, making a perfect cup of coffee, or whatever, every time. I just love my new coffee machine.
Seattle Coffee Gear delivered my order as promised in my shipping option without damage or blemish. (Posted on 9/21/2013)
Best Coffee I've ever had at home!Review by Seth
Over the years I've had many drip coffee makers, some okay (Cuisinart, Bunn) and one exceptional (Technivorm Moccamaster). But I have wanted a Jura superautomatic machine ever since I sampled some coffee from a Jura S9 some years ago. It tasted so good that I knew at some point in the future I would buy a Jura superautomatic. And as good as drip coffee is, there is no way, in my opinion, that it can match the taste from a machine like a Jura.
So after a lot of research, and reading countless reviews, I decided to buy a Jura J9 One Touch TFT. I placed my order from the very nice folks here at Seattle Coffee Gear, and within a week or so I had my brand new J9! After unpacking it and setting it on the counter with both a Jura cup warmer and milk cooler complementing it, I was ready to start using this gorgeous machine.
Setting it up via the TFT color display was a breeze. And from the first cup of coffee, espresso, and cappuccino it made, I have been so spoiled with this machine. I can honestly say that I will never go back to regular drip coffee now. The milk foam that this machine produces is fantastic! The thing that I have learned with nearly four months of every day use, is keeping the frother attachment super clean it vital! Just using regular water with no Jura cappuccino cleaner liquid just won't get the frother clean enough.
And having to remove and disassemble the frother attachment isn't the funnest thing to do. So What I did is set the machine to rinse immediately. So now after I make the amount of milk based drinks I want, I press the center button on top of the machine and it rinses the frother. This really helps to keep the milk from drying inside the attachment as quickly.
I know that using the Jura cappuccino cleaning solution can get pricey, but in my experience, its use is essential to keep this part working optimally. So after I know that the milk frother will not be used again that day, I go ahead and do a full frother cleaning using the Jura solution. And so far, by doing it this way, it has kept the milk frother working excellent.
Also very important is to always clean the machine, change the filter (if using one), as soon as the machine asks you to. I also empty the drip tray and coffee grounds daily. By keeping up with the maintenance on this machine, you will always be rewarded with the finest tasting coffee creations this machine produces.
In summary, so far I am LOVING my Jura J9 TFT! I hope it lasts me for many years, as I look forward to my specialty coffee everyday.
On a scale of 10, I give the J9 TFT a 10+. I highly recommend this machine!
