Nespresso has taken the idea that smaller is always better. What Nespresso is calling a miniature version from its first round of popular Nespressos, the Pixie sits nine inches tall and allows you to fit cups for your favorite type of caffeinated drinks — espresso, lungo, lattes, macchiatos — to fit underneath its spout. Not only small but energy saving too, this machine will switch off after nine minutes, has a 40 percent lower power consumption than other machines and its heating time has been reduced to 25 seconds.

Best Answer:All of the Nespresso machines come with 16 pods, one of each blend of their coffee as a sample. Future capsules will need to be purchased directly from Nespresso, either online or in one of their branded boutiques to ensure freshness. The Pixie comes in more colors and does not drop your used pod after brewing, while the U is a newer model that remembers your most used beverage and over time brews the way you like, and also drops the pod into the trash bin automatically after brewing is complete. Otherwise, the two units brew the same and will give you the same espresso!
Say I want to make a 16 oz. latte. I know this machine is small - can I remove the tray and put my large latte glass directly under the spout? I am most interested in the Pixie for size but could also do another Nespresso machine...

Best Answer:The tray does not remove- it flips up to allow you to put your taller glass/mug under the spout. As to whether your large latte glass fits, it depends on your glass (though in a pinch you can always hold it at an angle under the spout, I suppose). The spout is about 6 inches off the counter (I say about because I had to eyeball it due to my ruler's geometry) and the flipped-up tray is 3 1/2 inches wide. However, the geometry is not perfect because the tray curves away to allow, say, a flared rim wider than 3 1/2 inches at the top. I have a 16 oz glass which is 3 1/2 inches wide at the top and 6 inches tall and it fits beautifully, with room to spare, with the tray flipped up. Hope this answers your question.
If you remove the tray, the bin for the used capsules would go with it, potentially creating a few drips and capsule mess in it's wake. However, while the cup clearance is 3.75" from the tray to the spout, the tray can be pivoted upwards to allow for a taller cup from counter to spout. So it all depends on the height of your latte glass!
Yes, you can remove the tray and put your glass under the spout. . What I am not sure about is how to get the pixie to dispense 16 oz. When I fill a large mug I just run another cycle of water through the same capsule. Enjoy your java.
Several (somewhat scattered) questions: 1) For a 16 oz latte, will I have to use 2 capsules? 2) Is it known when Nespresso's patent on their capsules expires, thus allowing for more competition and probable lowering of capsule prices? 3) How does the quality of the espresso produced compare to the lower end Saeco superautomatics (Xsmall, Vienna plus, odea) Thank you in advance!!
Best Answer:Yes, the Nespresso machines require 2 capsules for any drink that you'd enjoy with a double shot, as the espresso pods are single shot size, or about 1 ounce. Unfortunately though other companies are beginning to make "off-brand" capsules, we have not tried them, and I do not imagine that Nespresso would authorize another company to sell an alternative. As it stands now, Nespresso wishes to ensure freshness and therefore does not even sell their capsules to retailers who sell their machines-- like us! They maintain maximum freshness by only selling pods in their own boutiques or online. The quality of espresso is great, and pretty similar to the shots you'd brew from any of the Saeco machines.
Capsules can be ordered directly from Nespresso via phone (800) 562-1465 or online www.nespresso.com

Favorite Kitchen ApplianceReview by Salmonhead
I have never had a kitchen appliance that made me so happy. There is no learning curve to this machine. It's fully automatic, meaning you make great espresso from the start. Pair it with the milk frother and you need no more tools. I pondered this purchase for a few years and wish I had made it sooner. Purchasing the capsules was my point of hesitation. However, the variety and flavor of Nespresso coffee is outstanding, and I have long been a whole-bean coffee geek. The Pixie is super fast; it takes only seconds to warm up, and it's putting out coffee at the press of a button. I have never experienced faster, more effortless coffee making with such outstanding results. It's brilliant.
