Product Description

Nespresso has taken the idea that smaller is always better. What Nespresso is calling a miniature version from its first round of popular Nespressos, the Pixie sits nine inches tall and allows you to fit cups for your favorite type of caffeinated drinks — espresso, lungo, lattes, macchiatos — to fit underneath its spout. Not only small but energy saving too, this machine will switch off after nine minutes, has a 40 percent lower power consumption than other machines and its heating time has been reduced to 25 seconds.

Features and Functionality of the Nespresso Pixie

  • Smart Water Sensor - Wondering if you'll have enough water in your machine to make that cup o' joe in the morning won't be a hassle anymore with the Pixie's infrared warning light.
  • Sturdy Design - Steel handle and aluminum side panels
  • Speedy - Faster than it's predecessors, the Pixie is able to reach brewing temperature in 25 seconds flat, with a faster thermoblock and optimised water circuit.
  • Patented Single-Serve Coffee Capsules - Nespresso's speciality coffee capsule system is designed to balance the ideal flow of water through the coffee grounds -- no-mess, simple, delicious coffee every time. Used capsules automatically eject.
  • Smart Alert System - The infrared warning light and fibre optics check keeps an eye on your water level, notifying you of when it's time to fill up.
  • Removable 0.7 Litre Water Tank - For easy cleaning and maintenance.
  • Tasty Capsule Coffee - The drinks made by this machine are among some of the best flavored of capsule makers, according to reviews
  • Earth Friendlier - Nespresso capsules are constructed of aluminum (no plastic) and are recyclable unlike other capsule/pod brewing systems
  • Compact - Unlike it's predecessors, the Pixie stands at 9-inches high giving even the smallest of kitchens the capability to produce quality espresso. Try it on your boat or RV!
  • No personal stash - While Nespresso offers 30 premium quality blends in their capsules to cater to many tastes, you can't use your own beans with this patented system

Hi there,
Do the Nespresso machines come with coffee pods ?
Which seems to be the best in value, the Pixie or the U ?
ann m on Jul 3, 2013
Best Answer: All of the Nespresso machines come with 16 pods, one of each blend of their coffee as a sample. Future capsules will need to be purchased directly from Nespresso, either online or in one of their branded boutiques to ensure freshness. The Pixie comes in more colors and does not drop your used pod after brewing, while the U is a newer model that remembers your most used beverage and over time brews the way you like, and also drops the pod into the trash bin automatically after brewing is complete. Otherwise, the two units brew the same and will give you the same espresso!

Say I want to make a 16 oz. latte. I know this machine is small - can I remove the tray and put my large latte glass directly under the spout? I am most interested in the Pixie for size but could also do another Nespresso machine...
A shopper on Dec 5, 2014
Best Answer: The tray does not remove- it flips up to allow you to put your taller glass/mug under the spout. As to whether your large latte glass fits, it depends on your glass (though in a pinch you can always hold it at an angle under the spout, I suppose). The spout is about 6 inches off the counter (I say about because I had to eyeball it due to my ruler's geometry) and the flipped-up tray is 3 1/2 inches wide. However, the geometry is not perfect because the tray curves away to allow, say, a flared rim wider than 3 1/2 inches at the top. I have a 16 oz glass which is 3 1/2 inches wide at the top and 6 inches tall and it fits beautifully, with room to spare, with the tray flipped up. Hope this answers your question.

Can you use other capsules with this machine?
FrankM on Nov 6, 2014
Best Answer: Nespresso recommends use of their capsules only and we haven't experimented much with off brand capsules, unfortunately.

what are your thoughts on refilling used Nespresso Capsules with any old ground coffee?
A shopper on Aug 11, 2014
Best Answer: This is not something we have tried with the Nespresso pods and not something I would recommend, unfortunately.

Several (somewhat scattered) questions:
1) For a 16 oz latte, will I have to use 2 capsules?
2) Is it known when Nespresso's patent on their capsules expires, thus allowing for more competition and probable lowering of capsule prices?
3) How does the quality of the espresso produced compare to the lower end Saeco superautomatics (Xsmall, Vienna plus, odea)
Thank you in advance!!
Yoseph G on May 27, 2013
Best Answer: Yes, the Nespresso machines require 2 capsules for any drink that you'd enjoy with a double shot, as the espresso pods are single shot size, or about 1 ounce. Unfortunately though other companies are beginning to make "off-brand" capsules, we have not tried them, and I do not imagine that Nespresso would authorize another company to sell an alternative. As it stands now, Nespresso wishes to ensure freshness and therefore does not even sell their capsules to retailers who sell their machines-- like us! They maintain maximum freshness by only selling pods in their own boutiques or online. The quality of espresso is great, and pretty similar to the shots you'd brew from any of the Saeco machines.

Do you have to use the capsules or can one grind and use their own coffee with this machine?
A shopper on May 9, 2013
Best Answer: No, unfortunately the Pixie, as with all the Nespresso machines, require the use of their capsules and cannot use ground coffee.

Powerful PixieReview by Praisingann
I have owned both the Nespresso U and now the Nespresso Pixie.
Of the two, the Pixie is less automated, and only has espresso and lungo choices.
Not to worry. Less is more with the Pixie.
It produces an excellent shot of espresso and I noticed more flavorful results as compared with the U.
The Pixie is also very solid and relatively quiet as compared with the U.
As a note, Nespresso no longer manufactures the U.
My Pixie is the model where you can change the side panels out for ones with different colors. (Posted on 9/16/2015)

Favorite Kitchen ApplianceReview by Salmonhead
I have never had a kitchen appliance that made me so happy. There is no learning curve to this machine. It's fully automatic, meaning you make great espresso from the start. Pair it with the milk frother and you need no more tools. I pondered this purchase for a few years and wish I had made it sooner. Purchasing the capsules was my point of hesitation. However, the variety and flavor of Nespresso coffee is outstanding, and I have long been a whole-bean coffee geek. The Pixie is super fast; it takes only seconds to warm up, and it's putting out coffee at the press of a button. I have never experienced faster, more effortless coffee making with such outstanding results. It's brilliant.
