Using its passion, innovation and technology to provide coffee lovers with an ideal cup of espresso every time, Nuova Simonelli offers high-traffic cafe and restaurants with limited space plenty of customer satisfaction with its Appia Compact Volumetric Commercial 2 Group Espresso Machine.

Standing 21 inches high, the Appia Compact is great for small spaces. With automatic dosing and a Soft Infusion System, this espresso machine guarantees high-quality soft and creamy espresso shots every time.

But don't think its small stature restricts it from doing big things. With the same features as Nuova Simonelli's larger machines, the Appia Compact has automatic backflushing, raised group heads, ergonomic portafilters, inox work tray, two inox steam wands and a hot-water wand.

Compare the different versions:

  • Semi-automatic (EE): This version is what you might commonly find in your average coffee shop, where time and water quantity are all controlled by the barista during extraction. No need to worry about pressure profiles, as these machines will take care of that for you at a standard 9 bars.
  • Auto-Volumetric (AV): This version will take a lot of the guess work out of your extraction variables by setting water quantity profiles that will keep everything much more consistent across the board. This sort of machine is considered quite a bit easier to use.

Features & Functionality of the Appia Compact

  • Heat Exchanger: With it's copper boiler, this heat exchanger will allow you to brew and steam at the same time with ease and at a faster rate than non-heat exchangers. The temperature will stay consistent through and through from boiler to brew head giving you that ideal shot every time.
  • Soft Infusion System: Guarantees soft and creamy espresso shots every time.
  • Optional Smart Wand: Allows anyone to make thick and velvety milk-based drinks, always at the same temperature with the proper amount of foam. Select 2 regular steam arms, or 1 regular 1 Auto Steam arm, your choice its that simple.
  • Optional Hot Water Spigot Extender: Shown in photo is the optional hot water spigot extender.
  • Raised Group Heads: Tall enough to put your cup right underneath the group.
  • Cup Warmer: The top of this machine functions wonderfully as a cup warmer, drawing heat directly from the boilers to the stainless steel top, priming those latte and shot glasses for perfect warmth.
  • Automatic Dosing: At a push of a button you won't need to worry when to stop or start your ideal shots. The programmable buttons makes measuring the right amount of espresso a piece of cake.

I purchased this machine about 10 months ago. It drips water from the portafilter during espresso extraction? What causes this?
A shopper on Jul 27, 2014
Best Answer: If the water is coming from around the portafilter of your Appia, it could be that your portafilter gasket is worn and needs to be replaced, or that the portafilter is not tightened onto the unit. It could also mean that you may have a bit of grounds sticking to the gasket or the portafilter preventing a good seal from forming. Hopefully this helps narrow it down!

Hi, is the group head actively heated? Or will I have to preheat the portafilters by running them under the hot water spigot?
A shopper on Jul 5, 2014
Best Answer: The group head in the Nuova Simonelli Appia is heated by a thermo syphon system to warm the group head and portafilter. While running water through helps heat the portafilter if it's cold, if you leave it sitting in the group head, it will be hot when you are ready to brew. Hope this helps!

In the video it says that the machine comes in both 110 and 220, but in the specs of the machine it only lists 220, so does also come in 110?
A shopper on Jan 21, 2014
Best Answer: Sorry for the confusion! The Appia Compact does come in a 110V option, but it is a special order only, and so it does take a little longer for order fulfillment. I will let marketing know to correct that info on the site! If you have any other questions please give us a call to speak with commercial sales at 866-372-4734.

Would you say this sized boiler would be ok for 100 drinks per day (over 12 hours)?
A shopper on Apr 7, 2017
Best Answer: It certainly could be, but it depends on your rushes as well. Is 20% of your daily volume coming in a half hour period? If so, you'll likely run into steam pressure and shot temperature issues. There are many variables specific to you. I hope this helps put volume in a new context for you. Give us a call if you'd like to discuss specifics. Thanks!

how to adjust time/temp of auto steam wand?
keviin s on Oct 6, 2015
Best Answer: It's part of the programming of the machine. Essentially, you'll ask the machine to steam while it's in programming, and once it reaches the temperature that you want your milk at, end the steaming, and the programming will remember what you want for next time. The time that it takes will vary depending on how much milk and how cold the milk is that you're using.

If I have the one hour to wait each morning, to warm this machine up, can I turn it off at night to save on electricity? Will the once daily on/off adversely affect the machine/components? I would rather not power something if I do not have to- unless there is a good argument to do so. Thank you very much : )
Caroline K on Jun 10, 2015
Best Answer: In the long run, thermal expansion and contraction caused by turning the machine off and letting it completely cool every day can be bad. However, if you want to turn the machine off at night, you can. You just want to make sure that you are opening up the steam valve when you turn it on; this will purge any air bubbles that are trapped in the boiler (this will hopefully stop any issues with boilers cracking due to thermal expansion.)

Is there a version of this machine that can draw water from a tank or reservoir - and not be plumbed to pressurized water?

Ken Lyon
Ken L on Dec 26, 2013
Best Answer: No, unfortunately there is not a version of the Appia that uses a tank. You could potentially use a plumbable machine like this by hooking it up to a 5 gallon water jug with a flow jet. If you are looking for a tank machine, I'd suggest checking out the Epoca ST, found at the link below. How long does this machine take to warm up ?
A shopper on Apr 29, 2013
Best Answer: This Appia takes roughly 45 minutes after you turn it on for it to be hot to brew temperature, but it will be ready to steam after just about 5-8 minutes. Keep in mind that most commercial machines like this one are meant to be left on all the time so there will be no wait required.
