The Nuova Simonelli Musica Direct Connect is a beautifully designed stainless-steel machine that harbors professional functionality combined with an easy-to-use button interface. It comes in a Lux version with LED lighting surrounding the frame or a version with black lining. As for its espresso-making qualities, a programmed pre-infusion system gets a full extraction from your grind and brews consistent espresso shots every time. The steam wand on this machine is one of the best we've ever seen, featuring an easy to use lever that opens up a high-pressure steam flow so you can master both lattes and cappuccinos. This model is for the users who want to specifically plumb in their machines (most likely in a small cafe or heavy home use). We highly recommend using a filtration system as well.

Features and Functionality

  • Heat Exchanger - The Musica uses heat exchanger functionality, which ensures that each espresso shot is brewed at a consistent temperature to give you the best tasting shot possible.
  • Beautiful Interface - The Musica's interface displays beautiful back lit programmable buttons. With intuitive functionality, you aren't left guessing what buttons brew and which knobs steam.
  • Professional Portafilter - This machine uses a high quality and durable 58mm portafilter.
  • Direct Connect (Plumbed) - This machine is directly plumbed into your water supply; recommended for a small cafe or very active kitchen.
  • Great Steam Pressure - High pressure steam gives you the option to froth your milk almost any way you like. The steam handle on this machine is one of the best designed units we have ever seen; no pesky knobs, just a sliding valve.
  • Cup Warmer - The top of this machine functions perfectly as a cup warmer, with about enough space to hold nine shot glasses cappuccino cups.
  • Sturdy Construction - Wonderfully designed stainless steel body with professional internal parts.
  • Excellent Shots - Once you tweak the machine to your liking, it will make drinks just how you want them every time with little to no variation from the settings you have chosen.
  • Aesthetics - The Musica has a practically all stainless-steel construction, which looks great on any counter.
  • Steam Performance - This machine will have your milk hot and frothed in no time. The actual knob to turn on the steam wand is one of our new favorites. It features a simple slide up and down, which opens up the valve.
  • Large Size - The size of this machine is quite large, so you'll need to measure the space in your kitchen.
  • Water Reservoir Design - Some users may not like the water reservoir design. The water spigot tends to spray everywhere.
How Does it Compare?

An SCG Crew favorite, the Musica stacks up favorably against any espresso machine out there. And you can't diss the disco lights!

Tips and Tricks
  • This unit can be used as an automatic and a semi-automatic.
  • The Musica also includes a vibratory pump. To prevent damage on plumbed models, a regulator on the water line is recommended.

what is the water input requirements for psi? Reason; we have a reverse osmosis we want to connect to espresso machine and we need to T off the pre existing connection we have on our refrigerator.
A shopper on Dec 1, 2014
Best Answer: You are looking for no more than 1-2 bars of pressure (approx. 15-30psi) to be going into the machine, since it uses a vibratory pump. I would certainly caution against using 100% reverse osmosis in the machine, because without minerals, the machine will not register that it has water properly and will overfill the boiler. You will need to incorporate some water with minerals, so the resulting water entering the machine is soft but not devoid of minerals. You can use a water hardness test strip to test how soft the water is, and ideally you're looking for somewhere between 1-3 GPG.

Height is listed as 16.75", does this include cups in the warmer?
Keith C on Dec 27, 2015
Best Answer: Hi Keith,

The 16.75" is to the top of the machine, so it doesn't include cups in the warmer. However, the top shelf of the unit for the cups is lower than the top edges of the unit. In my case, with cups, the height comes to 17.75", therefore fitting below our cabinets that are 18" above the counter. I would like to add two things. First, I absolutely love this machine. I'm not materialistic, so it is odd to state that this is the best thing I've ever purchased. I guess I just love coffee that much. The frother is amazing. Finally, the hose that comes with it (for direct water line) is in a European standard, specifically British Piping Standard. It may be common to most, but I had some difficulty figuring out how to connect it to my direct water line with US sizing. This may not apply to you.

Happy shopping.

Can the direct connect version be disabled and used with a water reservoir instead?
CoffeeToronto on Nov 22, 2015
Best Answer: The direct connect version can only be plumbed, if you needed a tanked version you would have to purchase it that way.

I'm looking for a machine that will service a small 60 seat cinema. It'll be for commercial use but will see a lot less traffic than a proper coffee shop (limited hours and since it's at night not everyone will want coffee). Will this machine work well for this kind of purpose? I feel that a proper commercial machine might be overkill for us, plus the lux version will look really nice given our interior design :) - thanks, Michael
A shopper on Sep 25, 2013
Best Answer: This Musica is NSF certified and will work just fine in very light commercial use, but I would definitely recommend trying to estimate the number of drinks you will brew in a day and hour timeframe (such as 10 drinks in 2 hours, or 20 drinks over 6 hours). If you are looking at a higher volume, then you may need a higher level machine than this Musica. In this case, I would recommend giving us a call to talk about commercial machines with our commercial sales team- we'd be happy to help! 866-372-4734

Starbucks at home :)Review by Kari64
Love this machine. Easy to use and makes a perfect latte every time. I've had it for a little over a month now and no problems. I will update this review should problems arise. Regarding the price, I have spent so much at Starbucks over the years I probably could have purchased 5 of these by now. So in the end I am saving money. :) Love it. (Posted on 9/4/2015)
