Product Description

The Epoca ST Semi-Automatic espresso machine is a high-tech Rancilio model, complying with the most advanced technical requirements. Stylish by design and easy to operate, it has all the outstanding qualities of Rancilio coffee machines combining electronics with traditional hardware for higher performance. The machine body is now rust-proof, scratch-proof and wear-resistant for years of usage.

The Epoca ST is extremely simple and reliable in all situations. The Epoca S is available plumbed and now in this Epoca ST 'tank' version with an independent water tank that allows it to be used without connection to the main water supply.

How the Rancilio Epoca ST 1 Group Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine Works

  • Semi-Automatic (S) - This version is what you might commonly find in your typical coffee shop, where time and water quantity are all controlled by the barista during extraction. No need to worry about pressure profiles, as these machines will take care of that for you at a standard 9 bars.
  • Semi-Automatic Tank (ST) - This version has the same features as the Semi-Automatic but does not require a water source as the water tank is built into the unit.
  • Automatic (E) - This version will take a lot of the guess work out of your extraction variables by setting water quantity profiles that will keep everything much more consistent across the board. This sort of machine is considered quite a bit easier to use.

Features & Functionality of the Rancilio Epoca ST 1 Group Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

  • Independent heat exchangers: The Rancilio Epoca ST comes with independent heat for each group head, ensuring that every espresso shot is brewed at a consistent temperature, giving you the best tasting shot possible.
  • Boiler Pressure Gauge: Know when your machine is ready with this visible gauge on the front for checking the boiler pressure and automatic water level.
  • Cup Warmer: The top of this machine functions perfectly as a cup warmer, with about enough space to hold nine shot glasses or several cappuccino cups.
  • Pod Adaptable: No Grinder? No problem! simply get the pod adapter, and make great espresso with this unit.
  • C-Lever: Ergonomic steam knob with open-stay and open-close functions. Using just a 25 degree turn, it's easy on your barista's wrist. Turn it upwards it will lock in an open position, turning downwards allows a feathered control so the barista is in full control of the steaming process.
  • Grid System: To make cleaning and maintenance easier, Rancilio has equipped all its products with a revolutionary work surface on the drip tray. The grids are easy to remove and dishwasher safe.

When I first turned on the epoca s-tank machine all the water drained out of the bottom. Is it supposed to be plugged?
A shopper on Feb 13, 2015
Best Answer: Did you have the drain tray in place to catch the water? You also have to empty the drain tray frequently so it doesn't overflow.

Hi. I see a note on your site: " experiencing higher than normal warranty issues with this model " could you please elaborate on that? I'm Very interested on this model Epoca ST1
Francisco D on Dec 19, 2014
Best Answer: According to our commercial sales manager, we would recommend looking into the Appia 1 group machines for a entry level commercial espresso machine. We have seen the Epoca 1 group line, including the ST version go through higher than normal defects in comparison to other models. If you are looking for a commercial espresso machine that can be used in places without water/plumbing, we recommend using a Nuova Simonelli Appia 1 S or V and adding on a flojet water bottle pump. This would allow for an alternative to a direct plumb. It is our desire to sell equipment that we fully back and it is our responsibility to make sure the consumer sees our honest opion, therefore the message “experiencing higher than normal warranty issues with this model."

Hi. I am just trying to verify. The S is plumbed, the ST has a water tank, but can the ST also be plumbed if needed?
Kym C on Jul 29, 2014
Best Answer: No, the Epoca S is a plumbable only machine, while the ST is a tank only machine. Neither option is convertible, unfortunately.

i recently purchased this machine here, and i was wondering how would you descale this machine?
A shopper on Jul 9, 2014
Best Answer: The manufacturer does not recommend descaling the machine, but instead to use filtration to ensure that your water hardness is very soft, so that you do not accumulate scale buildup. If you do need descaling, we would recommend a professional servicing.

Are you able to steam milk and pull a shot at the same time? Is the machine only able to make 30 cups a day because it would be to hard on the machine to make more or because of the speed limitations?
A shopper on May 23, 2014
Best Answer: Yes, you are able to steam milk and pull a shot at the same time on this Rancilio Epoca. Roughly 30 cups total is about the most that you would want to brew on this machine spread out over the course of the day, as more than that would be taxing on the machine and result in a shorter life expectancy from the unit. If you are looking for a machine that can handle greater volumes than this, please give us a call to speak with commercial sales at 866-372-4734.

I see two different answers about capacity: one says it will handle a max of 30 drinks a day, and the other answer states 100 to 120 drinks a day. Big difference....could you clarify, please? Also, for someone who has never used an espresso machine before, how quickly can you learn to operate this machine? Looking to place this in a small bakery cafe. Thank you!
Kathy C on Apr 27, 2014
Best Answer: Thanks for catching that and I am sorry for the confusion! The Epoca ST machine can handle only about 30 drinks a day (spread out over the day) and I misspoke saying that it would preform well for 100-120 drinks a day. If you've not operated an espresso machine before, the most difficult thing will be dialing in your grinder and then frothing milk, as getting milk frothing technique down can be tricky. I would suggest looking at one of the Mazzer Grinders for a good pairing with this Epoca, and I have included a link below:

Best Answer: At full pressure, the Rancilio Epoca ST operates it's vibratory pump at roughly 9 bars of pressure, which is around 130 psi.

Does this machine have a grinder in it? Can it be connected directly to a water source?
A shopper on Jan 29, 2014
Best Answer: No, this Epoca ST does not have a grinder, and the ST version is a tank only. If you are looking for the plumbable version called the Epoca S, it can be found here:
