Product Description

Bloom. Brew. Breath. The rich aroma of fresh pour over will entice coffee connoisseurs to the simplistic and innovative design of the Ratio Eight Edition Coffee Maker. Designed and assrmbled in Portland, Oregon from aluminum, borosilicate glass and finished with hardwood accents, water only comes into contact with these high-quality materials for the crispest sip. The elegant craftsmanship and attention to detail will integrate effortlessly with the home brewer's kitchen. The fluid construction carries over from its looks to the brewing process as well. Water syphons through glass cylinders within the reservoir and delivers the nostalgic whisper of hot water brewing through a coffee maker. Once the pot is ready, the Ratio Eight will automatically turn off to ensure the coffee never overheats and can be enjoyed at the moment it’s ready to hit the lips and awaken the taste buds.

Features and Functionality of the Ratio Eight Edition Coffee Maker

  • Quality Material - Constructed of aluminum, a stainless steel shower head and a tempered glass reservoir and carafe, the Ratio exemplifies American-designed attention to detail.
  • Pulsing Brew Head - The Ratio Eight pre-infuses and pulses water through a Fibonacci spiral in the brew head to properly bloom the coffee.
  • Simple Start Up - One button starts the brew process and once it’s pressed, the machine takes over pre-infusion, bloom and brew for you.
  • Modern Design - The streamlined design built with high-quality, polished materials will complement a wide variety of home brewer’s kitchens.
Pros
  • Auto Off - Once your coffee is ready, the Ratio Eight automatically shuts off to avoid overheating and burning the brew.
  • Styled With Care - From the top-quality material chosen to the detailed hardwood accents, the Ratio Eight was crafted with the home brewer in mind.
Cons
  • Large Footprint - The Ratio Eight is fairly large and takes up considerable counter space in the kitchen.
  • No Insulation - Coffee connoisseurs will appreciate that the Ratio has no heating element to keep the glass carafe warm. This does mean that coffee needs to be enjoyed quickly for the best flavor.
How Does it Compare?
  • Another automatic pour over in this field is the Chemex Ottomatic Coffeemaker. The Ottomatic has a smaller footprint and price tag but is constructed with a plastic reservoir and a heating element for the carafe.
Tips and Tricks
  • Interrupt Mid-Brew - The Ratio will stop brewing once the reservoir is empty. To stop the brew process before the water runs out, simply click the button to cancel. This button, however, stops the entire brew and it will start over from bloom.

Could you possibly replace the carafe with a stainless one + filter housing a la Melitta/Hairo? Assuming the height and dimensions are correct. With small kids, afraid that glass carafe won't last very long
Jeremy W on Jun 7, 2016
Best Answer: I know that ratio is making a stainless steel carafe..right now you'd have to use the glass caraf because it has a piece of metal at the bottom that triggers a magnet which starts the machine. I use Chemex filter papers.

I've had this machine for over a year. I love the simplicity of operation. This is equivalent of pour over by hand but so much easier. It makes a delicious cup of coffee....smooth, never harsh and depending on whether you use paper filter or custom metal cone, hardly any residue. It's the Mercedes Benz of coffeemakers in that the materials used in its construction are top quality. There's no plastic or cheap thin metal....all very long lasting high end stuff! The only negative is that I wish Ratio would come out with perhaps an aluminum alternative to the glass carafe that would keep the temp very hot as the coffee drips. Other than that, this machine is something that could be an heirloom. QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY and MADE in the USA. (Posted on 2/1/2017)

Love the Ratio 8. Looks beautiful on the countertop and like the fact its assembled in the USA! Quiet operation. Coffee maker turns off as soon as you remove the carafe (made out of hand-blown glass). Depending on your coffee portion, the machine produces a full-flavored cup without any "dirty" taste you get from French press or other drip machines. (Posted on 6/1/2016)
