How Does it Compare?
The anodized espresso tamper is more resistant to chips than the powder coated tamper handle, but is heavier and colder in the hand than the wood tamper handles.
How do I know what base size to buy? Does it have to fit the espresso/cappuccino machine (I have a Breville 800ESXL) or is it a matter of preference (feel)?

Best Answer:While handles are based on preference alone, you will need the properly sized tamper base for your portafilter, and these are sized basked on the width of your basket in millimeters. Unfortunately because we don't offer the 800ESXL, I am not sure what size you will need (I imagine it to be around 50mm), but Breville should be able to assist you better with this info.
Don't skimp on the tamperReview by Michael from Wynnewood
I pull my shots through a Saeco Via Venezia using a bottomless filter. The Saeco has a 53mm basket. I tried using the 51mm tamper that I had used with a Capresso EC Pro. The tamper just was a bit too small, and I was not getting outstanding shots with it. I decided to try the correct size 53mm tamper, and it has made a real difference. The tamper is grossly overpriced at $69 (my excellent 51mm tamper is heavy stainless steel, cost $18, and works great with a 51mm basket), but I think perfection is worth it. Don't skimp on the tamper. (Posted on 8/11/2014)
Great ProductReview by Heyref
I bought this to go with the stainless steel tamper base to fit my new portafilter for my Starbucks Barista. It is of excellent quality. The machining is top notch, which is not common in anything these days. The finish is beautiful and flawless. It gives a great, even tamp. Most importantly, it fits my long-fingered hands perfectly. Love it! (Posted on 9/1/2013)
Quality, quality, qualityReview by Craigo
Some people would say, "It's just a tamper." But that's like saying, "Your mother is just a mother."
Hey, these Reg Barber tampers are the bomb! I especially like the weight and feel of mine. The machining is top quality. To be perfectly honest, these tampers are all about quality. And they're whisper quiet too... which is nice.
