Choice is key with the Saeco Moltio Carafe Superautomatic Espresso Machine. An ideal combination of Saeco's best effort-saving features, the Moltio offers options for the discerning convenience coffee drinker. Looking to find the best bean? The Moltio's removable bean hoppers make it easy to run two coffees at a time. Latte lover? The Moltio has a removable carafe that you can store in the fridge for one-touch milk drinks. Coupled with Saeco's dishwasher-safe removable brew unit and simple programming, this may be Saeco's simplest machine yet.

Features and Functionality

  • Hot-swap Bean Hoppers - Two interchangeable 8.8-ounce bean hoppers lets you swap between roasts on the fly.
  • Plug-and-play Carafe - Keep your carafe filled up and in the fridge for quicker cappuccinos.
  • Dishwasher-safe Brew Group - Pop out your brew group for easy cleaning.
  • Double Tap Brewing - Tap your favorite drink button twice to brew back-to-back drinks.
  • Front-access - Water tank and grounds box live behind the drip tray for easy emptying or refilling without moving the machine.
  • Intuitive Programming - Saeco's simple press-and-hold programming makes it easy to adjust milk and coffee volume.
  • Bean Hoppers - The Moltio is one of the few superautomatics on the market that features a user-removable bean hopper (and includes a second hopper). If you love trying new coffees, or a a frequent decaf drinker, this is a must.
  • Milk Carafe - While not as hot as manual steam wands, the convenience of on-demand milk more than makes up for it. Not a milk drinker? The Moltio also comes with a hot water spout you can put in place of the carafe!
  • Cool Colors - We love the dark gray case and chromed accents.
  • Bad Buttons - The plastic cut-out buttons feel pretty chintzy and insubstantial.
  • Bigger - The Moltio may be more capable than other superautomatics, but it comes at the cost of a blocky footprint.
How Does it Compare?

A step below the Saeco Gran Baristo, The Moltio is a little bigger and lacks profile programming. It does add physical buttons and a wider trip tray however.

Tips and Tricks
  • The drip tray locks in! Buttons are located on both sides at the back of the tray.
  • Like most of Saeco's automatic frothers, water condenses in the top section of the carafe. When making a milk drink, make sure to put your cup under the spout after the first burst of water is purged.
  • Careful! It's pretty easy to pull steam through the hot water spout by accident.

Do you have any advice on choosing the Saeco 8869 vs 8924? Which machine is the best choice in this approximate price range? Thanks!
Michael C on May 1, 2017
Best Answer: That's a tough one! They are comparable for espresso, but differ in milk systems and other main features.

The Moltio:
Has removable bean hoppers which are great for trying new beans or if you drink decaf
Has a front-facing reservoir, which is great if you have short cabinets
Has a milk carafe you can detach and leave in the fridge
But its a bit wider than the PicoBaristo

The PicoBaristo:
Can use either manual or automatic frothing (more flexible) and is better for alternative milks
Has a nicer screen and menu layout
Has the new AquaClean filter which is nice for less maintenance
But its deeper than the Moltio and the water tank is located at the top of the machine

I lean toward the PicoBaristo, but you'll be happy with either machine!

I see one of the buttons is for latte macchiato. Can it make a regular latte?

Does this machine have the self descaling feature?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2017
Best Answer: There is a descaling procedure that needs to be done periodically. It involves putting a descaling solution in the water container and activating the descaling process, after which everything needs to be rinsed. Is that self descaling? Not sure what that means, but hope the above helps

Great MachineReview by Daniel
This is my third Saeco automatic machine in 13 years this is the best by far love the milk carafe easy to use. The only improvement would be to have little more room to place your cup under the coffee spout when the milk carafe is in place tight fit for some of my cups. Over all great machine would buy again.
My other Saeco machine are still working great, have pass them on to friends including my first super automatic I bought 13 years ago. (Posted on 6/3/2017)
