Product Description

Super high-tech — the Xelsis reads your fingerprint and loads your custom drink profile — and sublimely high-end, Saeco's Refurbished Xelsis One Touch Digital ID Superautomatic is wrapped in polished stainless steel and has an elegant aesthetic that works for any well-designed home or work place setting. The Xelsis features an intuitive touch-screen interface with six user profiles that can each have six custom beverages. (Think of it as sort of your own personal beverage concierge.) The removable milk pitcher can be kept in the refrigerator between uses and we love that the machine automatically cleans itself after each use. To create your own microfoam, the Xelsis has a separate steaming/hot water wand (with no panarello) with extra strong steam pressure, something we have not seen on other superautomatic models we have tested in this category.

There may be variations with the certified refurbished model in features and included items.

Features & Functionality of the Saeco Xelsis One Touch Digital ID

  • Animated Color Touch Interface: Select from six user profiles, each with six programmable beverages. The wide easy to read screen allows for simple beverage selection and intuitive set-up.
  • Digital ID - Fingerprint Reader: Simply touch the fingerprint at the top of the machine to load you custom drink profile...what could be easier?
  • Removable Milk Frothing Carafe with Automatic Cleaning Cycle: External container automatically froths milk into your cup. The top portion of the handle swivels to the left to dispense steamed milk directly into your cup during the brew cycle. When the handle is swiveled back to the container it automatically rinses itself to keep the container clean and clear of any milk clogs.
  • Alternate Steaming and Hot Water Wand: The Xelsis has a dedicated hot water and alternate steaming wand with dedicated 2nd boiler for strong steaming power. The stainless steel wand does not include a panarello and is perfect for creating your own micro-foam.
  • Removable Water Tank: 54 oz. removable water tank includes an Intenza water filter.
  • Double Boiler System: The Xelsis has two stainless steel boilers that ensure there is always water at the right temperature for brewing, steaming, or dispensing hot water.
  • Saeco Brewing System (SBS): Allows you to choose the strength and consistency of your coffee by turning a dial.
  • Pre-ground Coffee Option: When you want to brew a quick batch of preground coffee, you can use the Xelsis' bipass doser located on the top of the machine.
  • Aroma System: The Saeco Aroma System pre-wets your coffee grinds to ensure the best possible coffee extraction. This feature, also known as pre-infusion, can be turned off or on, or lengthened to suit your taste.
  • Automatic Turn-on and Energy Save Functions: Your Saeco super automatic can be ready to brew right when you get up. You can also set it to shut down after a certain amount of time, so you never need to worry about wasting power.
  • Protective Coffee Bean Hopper: The large coffee bean hopper has an airtight sealed lid with anti-UV coating keeps the bean fresh longer.
Pros
  • One Touch - The Xelsis has an excellent touch interface with six user profiles and true one-touch cappuccinos, lattes and other beverages.
  • Stainless-Steel Casing - Nothing looks better in your kitchen than stainless-steel casing wrapped around your espresso machine.
  • Alternate Steam Wand with Dedicated Boiler - Want to create some microfoam or prefer your latte extra hot? The Xelsis has an alternate steaming wand with more steaming power (and no panarello) than any other superautomatic we have tested.
Cons
  • No Oily Beans - As with all superautomatics, the Xelsis does not like super oily beans because they can clog the grinder over time.
  • Large - The Xelsis is a bit taller than some other superautomatics. It may be important to check cupboard height clearances.
  • Refills - With this machine, you'll need to refill the water and empty the grounds quite often.

Super-automatics are generally dismissed by espresso purists; does the Xelsis push back against these dismissals? Is the coffee comparable to what an experienced barista could pull with a manual or even semi-automatic machine, or is it just a decent approximation? Thanks
A shopper on Nov 13, 2013
Best Answer: If you remove the ritual and presentation aspects associated with a manual pull, we honestly cannot sense any difference in taste and prefer our machine to most baristas offerings.

Hi there, how old is this machine if it is an older model?
A shopper on Jan 10, 2015
Best Answer: These tend to be newer machines. Although Saeco has discontinued this particular model, we will get small batches as they find them in their warehouse or as they receive returns from other stores within that store's normal return policy. It will become more and more rare to have these available as we get fewer and fewer from Saeco to refurbish.

Hello i have a xelsis touch id, i really like this machine! My GF would like to use some vanilla aromatized coffee bean (Grrrr). I told her its not good for the grinder etc. But she challenged me on how a expensive coffee machine like could not do coffee like she want... hehe. So my question is, if the aromatized coffee bean are already grind, could i use them in the front coffee dispenser? Thank you
Jean-Sebastien R on Jan 7, 2015
Best Answer: You're absolutely right. The grinder really shouldn't grind flavored coffee beans, as that flavoring and any oils will accumulate on the burrs, and there isn't a way to get into the grinder yourself to clean it. This can lead to clogging very quickly, which would mean that you would need a professional cleaning if you aren't able to clear it. This is also why we preach using a medium roast with your beans all the time, since you can't clean the grinder, you shouldn't use a dark roast or an oily bean as it will clog the grinder quickly.

However, using pre-ground coffee is definitely fine. If the coffee is already ground, you can put one level scoop down the bypass doser, then brew away! If you choose to use an oilier bean or a flavored bean like that though, through the bypass doser, then just clean your brew unit a bit more often, so that you don't get any oily build up here too, causing clogging. We have a great video that helps with brew unit cleaning, for a more in-depth cleaning too:

What are the differences between the Xelsis Evo and the Xelsis ID?

Saeco Xelsis Stainless Steel One Touch - Digital ID - Certified Refurbished
Saeco Xelsis Evo Stainless Steel One Touch Espresso Machine
Saeco Xelsis Evo Stainless Steel One Touch Espresso Machine
Best Answer: The Xelsis with Digital ID is the older model. The milk will not be quite as warm as on the Xelsis Evo, but it does have a fingerprint reader to easily switch between users, and has a mirror finish on the stainless steel panels of the machine. The Xelsis Evo is a brushed stainless steel look, has a slightly different spout appearance, and utilizes the updated programming and carafe to achieve a slightly warmer temperature. However, it doesn't get the milk that much warmer than the original version, 110 degrees vs. 117/118 degrees. So, if you tend to like hotter milk, you could always use the traditional steam wand and steam the milk as hot as you would like, it just won't be dispensed into your cup automatically for you!

What is the warranty on this machine and what is the return policy? Why was this machine refurbished and how long has it been used for?
Simona S on Dec 28, 2014
Best Answer: The warranty and extended warranty policy is provided here: https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/service/scg-warranty-details Essentially, the warranty, be it the one 6 months that comes with a refurbished machine or the extended warranty, covers if a component should fail internally to the machine. It does not cover normal wear and tear items like o-rings and gaskets, and does not cover external parts such as a panarello, water tank, or drip tray, etc. It also does not cover issues that arise from misuse of the machine such as using a dark roast/oily bean in the grinder that clogs the machine, or scale clogs from not descaling.

We have a 30 day return policy: https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/scg-return-policy

Unfortunately, we do not have a history on each machine, so they could have had a previous owner, but are typically returned within a store's 30 or 60 day return period. We make sure that everything is working properly, but there could be some minor blemishes or scratches on the machine.

Great Refirb Deal and Outstanding Customer SupportReview by Salvatore

I recently purchased a Xelsis by Saeco. I had a problem I couldn't clear. A phone to to Seattle Coffee Gear was answered immediately by a technician and she worked me through the problem over the phone. She then determined that the problem was not repairable by me and immediately started the process to exchange it. I received an email with a shipping label that I used to send back the malfunctioning unit and within 3 days I received the replacement which is perfect and it cost me nothing. It looks and performs like new and I love it. This machine is a real class act that produces outstanding drinks because you can modify the way it prepares drinks for 6 separate people. Adjust how strong, how hot, how much water, how much milk, how much foam, and how it pre-soaks the beans. Then when you're done it rinses and cleans itself. I only wish the water tank was bigger. Thanks to Seattle Coffee technical department and especially Terry who was patient and thorough at getting at the problem. (Posted on 11/8/2014)

I entered the world of espresso with a used Rancilio Silvia with a PID. I made some incredible shots and cappuccinos, but consistency was a constant challenge. I accepted that it was just not my forte and I started researching super-automatic machines. I was immediately drawn to the Saeco line and then began the hunt for the perfect model. I was able to use an Odea and it made nice espresso, but I didn't want a plastic model. It became apparent that it was between the Exprelia and Xelsis and then Evo or non-Evo. I discovered the "American Coffee" special beverage on the Xelsis and with the similar pricing on refurbished models.....I chose the Xelsis. The American Coffee truly does taste better than an espresso lungo and is a great feature for those that still love a good cup of drip-style coffee. I can't believe how nicely constructed the machine is and I couldn't be happier. The milk frother does not get the milk very hot as you will hear in most reviews. I made a cappuccino with the one-touch and it was okay, then I steamed my own milk and it was awesome. I am okay with that....you have the frother for those in the family that don't want to steam and you have the real one-hole wand for those that have the patience. I would never pay retail for a machine like this, but for the refurbished price I am loving my new acquisition. (Posted on 11/1/2014)

Bought this on sale at scg at a similar price to refurbs offered on eBay. I'd rather support scg since they actually support this brand and can offer an extended warranty.

It makes a great cup of coffee and I agree with all the pro and con's listen on Amazon. Its a needy machine wanting its drip trays dumped often. This seems to be because it self cleans at the start and stop of each power cycle. I can live with that since a larger tray would undoubtably make the machine larger.

Lots of programmability to make drinks just the way you want. The biggest problem is milk temp. Since I'm using syrup, I've found steaming the syrup before making a drink is effective at elevating the milk temp at the bottom of the glass. I've got the milk accessory kit (smaller hose) on order. Also bought the thermal carrafe for extended counter time during parties. It has the same temp issue, but steaming the syrup worked here as well.

The fingerprint reader is a gimik since its quicker to press the user button to cycle through selections. If nothing else, its a way to impress company. Nice that you can edit the user name and the machine doesn't make one settle for just an icon (who's the ∆ again?)

Make sure to order the service kit to get water filters and extra descaller. You'll need to guess at water hardness since the test strip is not included. Ditto for the milk accessory kit. (Posted on 7/30/2014)
