Overview

Small offices and large households, rejoice! Effortlessly brew large amounts of delicious coffee, impress your co-workers or family members and make everyday 'brew-tiful' with Technivorm's Grand CDT Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer. No need to sacrifice quantity over quality! In about 8 minutes, the Grand will brew 56 ounces of your favorite coffee at the optimal temperature range of 196°F - 205°F. Pour everyone a mouthwatering mug and retain the freshly brewed heat for a second cup by swapping out the brew-threw lid for the travel lid.

Features and Functionality

  • Energy Efficient: With no hot plate, the thermal carafe Grand is an energy efficient brewer that only receives power when the brewer is plugged-in, the water reservoir is full and the carafe is in brewing position.
  • Large Reservoir: The thermal Grand features a 60.8 oz max line in the water reservoir, which brews up approximately 56 ounces (7 cups!) of piping hot coffee. So, go back for that second (and third) cup!
  • Insulated Carafe: Keeps coffee hot and your hands free from fresh coffee pot burn!
  • Multiple Lids: The thermal Grand comes with not one, but two lids for the insulated carafe. The brew-threw lid features Technivorm's recognizable destratification tube that evenly distributes and mixes the coffee in the carafe while brewing. Once brewing is complete, remove the brew-threw lid and replace it with the travel lid to keep your coffee hotter for longer!
  • Mid-Brew Interrupt: To grab some coffee mid-brew, pull the drip-stop switch on the brew basket and the flow of coffee will cease until you push the switch back towards the brew basket.
  • Carafe Foot Plate: Keeps your carafe steady and pressed against the white button, letting your Technivorm know it's time to brew!
  • Optimal Brewing Temperature: Like all Technivorm brewers, the thermal Grand brews at the recommended optimal temperature range of 196°F - 205°F, meeting the requirements of the ECBC/SCAE/SCAA.
  • Master Brewer: Both Technivorm Grand's feature a one-hole spray arm that is positioned over a shower-head brew basket, which evenly dispenses heated water over the coffee grounds.
How Does it Compare?

The Technivorm Grand thermal carafe coffee brewer is ideal for large households and small offices that desire high quality drip coffee.

The glass carafe Technivorm Grand features an auto-off function, while the thermal carafe Grand must be manually turned off.

Have you tried the coffee from the grand size brewing a full pot compared to the standard size 40oz? I'm wondering if it's going to taste as good as the smaller batch size. I'm split between the grand thermal and and the old KBT 741.

Thank you

what us the difference between the Moccamaster CDT and the KBT 741, I can't seem to tell by looking at various website?
BarbE on Sep 13, 2015
Best Answer: The only difference between the CDT and KBT are the round vs. rectangular body style to the two machines. This machine in particular is the CDT Grand, and Grand means that it will brew 64 oz. of coffee. The other models (without Grand) will brew 40 oz.

Can I brew less then 60 ounces or a half carafe?
A shopper on Dec 3, 2016
Best Answer: Absolutely! I do this all of the time. Regularly brew using 40oz +/-. Just adjust the amount of coffee you use and you are fine...Hands down the best drip coffee you will ever make. As an added bonus the carafe keeps the coffee nice and toasty for hours if you pre-warm it with hot water before brewing. I chose this particular model over the smaller model because I wanted the flexibility to make a larger pot when entertaining. I don't think this is the right machine if you want to brew small quantities on a regular basis. In that case the smaller version would be more practical. My daughter has the smaller model and loves it...perfect for two people.

Read in two reviews on Amazon that this caraffe has poor insulation and cracks easily...etc. What is your opinion?
Fred D on Mar 15, 2016
Best Answer: The insulation is great-- trick is (like for all insulated containers) to fill with hot water to warm it up prior to brewing coffee into thermal carafe. Keeps at a perfect temp for quite a while (check out SCG review). No cracking issues. I saw same review on Amazon. You won't regret this purchase

Hi! It's been a while since I used my tecnivorm CDT (but I have a big party coming up and need to use it!) and need to ask how much ground coffee I should use for a full pot? We like our coffee to taste like coffee too. I just hate to waste a bunch of coffee grounds trying to get a flavorful cup and would really appreciate your help!
Donna M on Apr 21, 2017
Best Answer: Do you have a kitchen scale handy? The reservoir holds 60.8 fluid ounces of water (or 1800 ml), so you'll want to use 112 grams of coffee (or around 3.9 ounces).

Hope this helps!

what size coffee filter should i use for Technivorm Moccamaster Grand CDT Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer?
A shopper on Oct 7, 2015
Best Answer: You'll want to use the filters that are the correct size for the Grand, and are a flat bottom shape. We carry them here, in packs of 100:

The Stainless carafe, does it need to be preheated with hot water before the hot brewed the coffee goes into it?
Brian K on Sep 22, 2015
Best Answer: No, it does not. Of course, if the carafe feels cold in the morning, you may want to just to ensure your coffee stays as hot as possible.

Great Drip Coffee…Pricey but worth it!Review by Lori W

Just brewed my first pot of coffee in the Technivorm Moccamaster Grand CDT. Purchased the "Grand" because the 4 1/2 (European size) cup measurement meant the smaller version would not be adequate for entertaining. This brews 1.8 liters which is roughly 60 ounces of coffee--so it is not as big as you would think --especially when you look at the size of the carafe. While it may be on the pricey side for a "drip" coffee maker the quality of the output is worth it in my humble opinion.

Used good quality dark roast coffee 100 grams ground on my Baratza Precisio at 14F setting (based on their recommendation) and 8 minutes later GREAT…and I mean GREAT drip coffee was brewed. I did preheat the carafe (per Seattle Coffee Gears recommendation) with hot water. The coffee was smooth, perfect temp, no bitterness--absolutely tasty. The Thermal carafe is not hot to the touch and keeps the coffee at a nice temp.

Prior to this my only "drip" coffee maker was a Cuisinart which made very marginal coffee despite my best efforts and attention to bean quality, grind, measurements etc.. Now, I am happy…I can make a great espresso drinks with my Rancilio Sylvia, a quick cup with the Hario Pour over set-up and finally coffee for more than a couple of people with the Technivorm Moccamaster Grand CDT.
