Technivorm produces brewers that are nothing short of grand, so we find it appropriate that this larger brewer bears that dignified name. The Technivorm Grand coffee maker is specifically designed for smaller offices or larger households that need a little extra brew each morning. The 64 ounce water reservoir brews a full pot of coffee in approximately 8 minutes, at an ideal temperature range of 196°F - 205°F. If you like to sip and savor your coffee, not to worry! This glass carafe model features an independent, energy efficient hot plate that keeps your coffee toasty at a temperature range of 175°F - 185°F.

Features and Functionality

  • Generous Volume: The water reservoir features a max level line of 64 ounces, which brews approximately 54 ounces of fresh coffee. Dare we say, enough to fuel a tiny army?
  • Auto-Off: The Grand coffee brewer automatically turns off after 2 hours, saving you energy!
  • Drip-Stop Switch: If you're eager for that first cup of coffee, but don't want to wait for the brew process to complete, simply pull the drip-stop switch towards you to interrupt the brew cycle. Push the switch back towards the basket to continue the brew process.
  • Hot Plate: To ensure your coffee stays warm after the brew cycle is complete, flip the hot plate switch to high (full circle). When you've reached a half-pot, flip the hot plate switch to low (half circle). This switch is independent from the brewer, so don't forget to turn it off once you've finished the pot.
  • Ideal Temperatures: Like other Technivorm brewers, the Grand brews at an ideal temperature range of 196°F - 205°F and the hot plate holds a temperature range of 175°F - 185°F, meeting the requirements of the ECBC/SCAE/SCAA.
  • Innovative Brewing: This small office brewer is slightly different than Technivorm's home brewers. The spray arm features one large hole that pulses water into the brew basket lid, which features an integrated shower head that evenly disperses water over the grounds for a smooth, well balanced flavor.
  • Durable Parts: The Grand features a durable copper heating element, as well as a heavy-duty metal housing that ensures this brewer is built to last.

How does the "grand" model compare with the smaller ones in terms of coffee quality? I like the size of this one, but I'm not willing to sacrifice quality for it.
PETER G on Jan 23, 2015
Best Answer: You can get a great cup of coffee from the larger or smaller models. Although it does have a flat bottom brew basket which is different from the v shape of their other models, this just helps to disperse the coffee so that you can fit more coffee in, to get an appropriate strength. The best thing about Technivorm models, and rings true to all of their models, is that the temperature control is very accurate, and right where you want it to be to produce the best flavor from your coffee.

How much coffee (in tbs) do you recommend to use for a full pot? I couldn't find and info on this model only the smaller. Thank you
Jane T on Dec 30, 2014
Best Answer: We've found good results in filling the brew basket about halfway up with a fairly fine drip grind. However, you will definitely want to do some experimentation with the fineness or coarseness of the grind consistency, as well as how much coffee you're putting in to find the strength that you need. Essentially, it all comes down to playing with and experimenting with those factors to find what you like the best!

Hi can a goldstone filter be used instead of paper filters? Thanks
Jane T on Dec 28, 2014
Best Answer: Unfortunately we do not have a gold tone filter that will fit this maker, so I'm not sure if one exists that will fit it correctly. We do carry the paper filters though, in a pack of 100!

I have read the high standard for a good cup of coffee is a brew time of 5 minutes or less. The smaller Technivorms state they accomplish this but the Grand takes 8 minutes? Does this effect the final outcome on tasty, body etc. and if not, why is that?
A shopper on Dec 24, 2015
Best Answer: If I understand it correctly, there is a certain amount of time each drop of water needs to spend in contact with the grounds to extract the best flavor. The grande holds more water therefore the process is longer.

That in mind, getting the proper grind is imperative to getting the best flavor out of your coffee no matter which brewer you choose.

marki on Oct 23, 2015
Best Answer: No I am sorry, the grand only comes with the manual drip feature.

What is the size of the coffee filters? I noticed the paper filters used for the Grand are large then the normal 8-12 cup filters. I can get those at a regular grocery store, right?
AnTony on Sep 19, 2015
Best Answer: This machine does use extra large filters. I have never seen them at a regular grocery store.

I can't find my original question? (Trying to get the right grind...) this is a reply to your answer. I think im starting to hit a sweet spot with this machine. While i do prefer a lighter roast, I did use a darker roast than i started with and find that with 80 grams at a 24 grind (Baratza Encore) it brews a pretty darn good cup of coffee. I start with the basket closed for 30 seconds, open it all the way and the go half once most of what's in the filter from the initial bloom has gone through so as not to overflow the basket. Really good and well liked by the whole office. Thanks!

Do the regular flat-bottomed paper coffee filters widely available in supermarkets work with this coffeemaker?
A shopper on May 15, 2015
Best Answer: No, this filter basket is quite large and requires the larger flat-bottomed paper filters. We do sell the paper filters intended for this machine. You can find them here:

Does the Technivorm Moccamaster CD Grand accepts permanent gold filters?
A shopper on Jan 7, 2015
Best Answer: It should be able to, but unfortunately, we don't carry any flat bottom reusable gold tone filters, so haven't been able to test their fit. Also, it does use a pretty large filter, so I would recommend that if you've found one out there, test the fit before you use it to make sure it will work for your needs just in case it doesn't.

You'll be happy you bought!Review by Pleasedaspunch
We LOVE this coffee maker! It's quality and ease of use earns a 5 star rating! We will be purchasing two more for each of our daughters. We have used it every day for over a year and have had absolutely No problems. A perfect cup every time. We discovered that with the grand model the commercial Mr. Coffee filters are the best sizing and price.
We would highly recommend Seattle Coffee Gear to purchase from as their customer service for product information and ordering was excellent! (Posted on 11/27/2016)
Outstanding Coffee MakerReview by Mikemd
I have used this coffee maker for the past 6 months and have found it to be an excellent brewer. I have used a lot of different coffee makers and this one is by far the best one that I have used. It's easy to use and makes a great pot of coffee. To make less than a full pot just experiment on how much water-to-coffee amount that suits your taste. Most people use the same amount everyday. It took a few pots to get the perfect ratio of coffee to water for less than full pots. I do this on any new coffee maker. Everyone comments on how good the coffee is from this brewer. Wonderful Review by Dan
Just received my Grande, purchased it as an open box model and saved some dollars, loved that part. After using the other brands of coffee makers for years I never knew what I was missing until now. Expensive but worth the it, makes a fantastic cup, you will not be disappointed with your purchase. I would recommend buying from the steals & deals area of the web page and save some $. My machine came its original box with all parts and manuals, just wiped it down, ran a few pots of water threw it and started to enjoy great coffee. (Posted on 4/19/2015)
Love this Coffee MakerReview by MikeD
Makes a full pot of coffee! Other Technivorm Coffee makers just don't make enough for our morning plus a travel mug to go. So yes it uses 10 scoops of coffee to make a full pot but it is worth it. The Technivorm Grand is the only way to go. (Posted on 3/17/2015)
Excellent brewer that could be improved for less-than-full-pot use.Review by Peter
According to its manual, the Moccamaster Grande is at its best when making full pots -- which we do only when we have guests. To make an excellent less-than-full pot, we wet the filter down before adding the coffee, and we slow the brewing down a bit by moving the shutoff lever in the filter holder very slightly. Future versions of this brewer should have a way to slow the brewing process that's clear. I would also appreciate marks on the carafe to indicate numbers of cups, so that I don't have to use an additional measuring cup.
