Within this user manual, you will find detailed instructions on how to use and care for your Ratio Six Drip Coffee Maker, along with tips and tricks to enhance your brewing experience. From setting up your machine to mastering different brewing techniques, we're here to guide you every step of the way.
Setup Instructions:
- Tank Preparation: Fill the tank with fresh, cool water up to your desired level. If you're using the Ratio carafe to transfer water, ensure it's clean and free of any coffee residue from previous brews.
- Filter Selection: The Ratio Six thermal carafe can use either a flat bottom basket filter or a #4 paper filter, depending on your region's preferences.
- Coffee Grounds: Add freshly ground coffee to the filter. For a full batch, start with 14 level tablespoons or 70 grams of coffee. For a half batch, use 8 level tablespoons or 40 grams. Be mindful when placing the carafe back into the Ratio Six to avoid hitting the shower head.
Starting the Brewing Cycle:
- Initiating Brew: Push the start button to begin the brewing cycle. You can preheat the carafe with hot water from your sink or kettle, or by running a brew cycle without coffee. Adjust the tank level to control the batch size.
Brewing Phases:
Bloom: During this phase, the Ratio Six pre-saturates the grounds with a small amount of water to initiate the blooming process. You'll notice slight bubbling, indicating the grounds are ready for the next step.
Brew: The machine transitions from bloom to brew, delivering hot water from the shower head to complete the brewing process. The brewing time ranges from 5 to 7.5 minutes, including the bloom rest period and final draining of coffee grounds.
Ready: The "Ready" indicator signals the completion of the brew cycle. Even after completion, water may drip through the grounds for a short duration. Remove the carafe promptly to prevent over-extraction.
Cleaning Instructions:
- Regular Maintenance: Keep your Ratio Six clean and free of mineral buildup by using the Ratio Machine Wash regularly. Avoid using commercial cleaning products or vinegar, as they may damage the machine and affect the coffee's aroma.
- Condensation Management: After brewing, wipe down the machine with a lint-free cotton or microfiber towel to remove any condensation buildup. Use caution, as the machine may still be hot.
Additional Care:
- Thermal Carafe: Rinse the thermal carafe with warm tap water after each use. Do not put it in the dishwasher or microwave.
- Optional Glass Carafe: If using the glass carafe, rinse it after each use. Avoid abrasive brushes or scrub pads to prevent scratches.
- Metal Parts: Use a microfiber towel to wipe down metal parts. For stubborn coffee stains, use diluted Ratio Machine Wash, avoiding abrasive tools that may scratch the surface.
