The Rocket Brew Head Gasket seals the portafilter to the machine and keeps the pressure where you want it --on the puck! This is an OEM gasket direct from Rocket. It's 8mm thick, which is the size that ships with new Rocket machines.
Pro Tip from the SCG Crew: This gasket means your portafilter will tighten over more towards the right to lock into place. You may be interested in the 8.5mm brew head gasket if that is not your preference. Both gaskets get the job done!
I disagree. This 8mm gasket fits my Silvia just fine- diameter, shape, thickness; I don't know how a Silvia-specific gasket would be any better. The 8.5mm gasket fits too, for that matter, but the portafilter tightens and stops at about 7:00 o'clock. The 8mm lets it swing over to 4:00-5:00 o'clock, in line with the original red dot on the case.
Can this be used with the Rocket Espresso Evoluzion Giotto v2? It's a E-61 brewhead, I know you guys have a 8.5mm one for that, but always seem out of stock. Will this do? Will it affect the espresso making experience?
Best Answer:We offer the 8 and 8.5mm gaskets in Tune-Up Kits that include a brew head screen and some Cafiza. The Tune-Up Kits for both sizes are below, and you can use either in your Rocket machine. We include a .5mm spacer when you purchase the Rocket 8mm Tune Up Kit, as the different size gaskets result in different positions for you portafilter handle. We explain this further on the item listing which I have also included below with those Tune-Up Kit links.
The 0.5mm spacer is included in this (8mm) kit, because your E61 Brew Group and your portafilter could have a certain amount of wear and tear that you are unaware of. Both the E61 Brew Group and your portafilter are made out of chrome plated brass. Eventually, the portafilter locking channels in your E61 Brew Group and the portafilter 'ears' on the portafilter begin to wear away. The result of this is a very small amount of extra space in your brew head. How do you know you need to use the spacer? After you've installed your new 8mm brew head gasket, does the portafilter need to go past 6 o'clock (pointing directly at you, which is preferred by most users) to make a seal? Do you need to turn the portafilter farther to the right to make a seal? This means your E61 Group Head and your portafilter are experiencing natural wear and tear. Next time, we suggest purchasing the Seattle Coffee Gear E61 Tune-Up Kit with 8.5mm Gasket. You will no longer need a spacer!
I have a Rocket Cellini Premium Plus V2 and just replaced the gasket with the above 8mm Rocket manufactured gasket but the portafilter now seems to tighten at the 4o'clock position (rather than the original 6o'clock). Placing the new/old gaskets side by side I can see the original one is slightly taller. Is this the incorrect Rocket gasket?

Best Answer:We offer both this Rocket branded gasket which is 8mm, as well as a generic E-61 Brewhead gasket that is 8.5mm. This 8mm gasket is what Rocket offers as a replacement, but yes, it will cause your portafilter to turn a bit further to the right than the thicker gasket. The 8.5mm gasket can be found at the link below:
I've used both this 8mm Rocket gasket and the 8.5mm gasket in my older Silvia. Both fit, but the 8.5mm doesn't let the portafilter lock on very far (I used it for six months, so it's usable if not optimal). The 8mm Rocket seems perfect for diameter, shape, thickness, and firmness; I don't know how a Silvia-specific gasket would be better. (Posted on 8/19/2015)
Good product and good priceReview by Homestead Barista
Bought this gasket for my Rancillio and it was easy to install. It secures my portafilter a lot better than the old one. No drips around the portafilter and seems to help the brewing process. (Posted on 12/26/2014)
8mm gasketReview by Ed
I waited till the last minute to change this part that is till I saw water dripping in and around the porta filter on a shot. The rocket gets used a lot and this is a must to keep the thing going a long time. The old gasket actually becomes hard and brittle. This maintainance is very easy to do . You tube has how to vids. Thank you scg (Posted on 10/31/2014)
Got this gasket for 1 reason, & it worked!Review by Pablo
My normal E61 gasket is 9mm. I've found that, when I use pods/pod adapter basket, shots pulled too fast. The 8.5mm Rocket gasket allowed a bit more 'squeeze' of the pod against the brew head, & slowed things down nicely. This change has had no obvious effect on non-pod espresso, just the normal grinder-tweaking. This gasket has a nice, soft feel; cannot comment on expected life-span. (Posted on 9/24/2014)
