The Rocket Espresso Bicocca truly straddles the line between home and commercial espresso machine. For many espresso hobbyists it can be a challenge to find an option that combines commercial grade performance, a dual boiler configuration, volumetric programming, and a size that works for an average kitchen. If you're someone seeking all of that plus an NSF certification for a coffee cart or small cafe then good luck! Until now. The Bicocca is an excellent addition to the single-group, dual boiler category for serious espresso fans and commercial use cases alike.

What We Cover in This Crew Review
Inspired aesthetics — Rocket built the Bicocca in partnership with V12 Design Group, who included sharp, modern angles that conjure visions of supercars and upscale cafes.
Exceptional thermal performance — The Bicocca's heated group gives the machine some incredible heat stability.
Intelligent programming — This machine features built-in volumetrics, so that you can keep your scale reserved for dosing, not on the brewer.
NSF certified — Thanks to the Bicocca's NSF certification you can safely add it to your coffee cart without worrying about the health inspector.
Excellent serviceability — Professional users and confident hobbyists will appreciate how easy it is to disassemble this machine and service it.
Where does it fit in the Rocket Espresso lineup? — Compared to Rocket's Boxer commercial machines, the Bicocca is easier to fit on a coffee cart or countertop while still handling a lineup of drinks. The R58 and R Nine One don't carry NSF certifications, so they aren't suited for commercial environments. They also don't hold up to the Bicocca's recovery, which allows it to better handle multiple drinks in a row.

Meet the Rocket Espresso Bicocca
There are a number of important things to consider when taking a look at the Rocket Espresso Bicocca. For starters, this is a big machine. While it does make for a "compact" option compared to other commercial machines, it's definitely on the larger side for home use. At 16"W x 18.5"D x 15.75"H it isn't much more difficult to accommodate than something like an R Nine One, but it is an extremely heavy machine, so you likely won't want to place it under cabinets that the water tank will be blocked by.
The control system on this machine does take some getting used to, but it's not too bad. Unique controls mounted on top of the group head are generally clear and intuitive, but their placement on the top of the machine could be a turnoff for some. We do like that the screen is vibrant and makes sense, helping users get up to speed in home or commercial environments.
Performance wise, the Bicocca is fantastic. The heated group head leads to some exceptional temperature stability, and the cartridge system helps with recovery and startup times. Built-in volumetric programming is a boon for workflow, as you won't have to find room on the drip tray for a bulky scale. Other programming options include pre-brewing, auto backflush, filter reminders, a shot-counter, and other standard menu and care elements. One note - we do recommend 2-4 GPG / 30-70 ppm water hardness, as the stainless steel boilers are sensitive to water quality.

The last major piece of the puzzle on this machine is its NSF certification. While this machine is definitely on the expensive end for a home unit, that NSF certification makes it an excellent option for a coffee cart or small cafe. For the espresso hobbyist that is dedicated enough for a machine like this you know you'll be getting commercial quality and performance.
Ultimately while this machine may be niche (for now) we think its an excited addition to the Rocket Espresso lineup. Perfect for anyone shopping for that smaller commercial machine, and certainly one of the ultimate options to consider for the home barista that wants that commercial experience.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Rocket Espresso Bicocca a commercial espresso machine?
The Bicocca is NSF certified, which means it's approved for use in commercial food service environments like coffee carts and small cafes. It's one of only two NSF-certified machines in the Rocket Espresso lineup, alongside the Boxer. That said, it's also a fantastic home machine for serious enthusiasts who want commercial-level performance.
Can the Rocket Espresso Bicocca be plumbed in?
Yes. The Bicocca has a top-fill water reservoir for standalone use, but it can also be plumbed in via an underside connection. You can switch between reservoir and plumbed modes through a simple menu toggle — no additional hardware required.
How does the Bicocca compare to the Rocket R58 and R Nine One?
The Bicocca offers better thermal recovery for back-to-back drinks thanks to its actively heated group, and it carries NSF certification that neither the R58 nor R Nine One have. The R58 and R Nine One are excellent home machines, but they aren't approved for commercial environments and don't match the Bicocca's consecutive drink consistency.
What water quality does the Rocket Bicocca need?
Rocket recommends 2–4 GPG (30–70 ppm) water hardness for the Bicocca. The stainless steel boilers are sensitive to water quality, so using properly treated water is important to protect the machine and maintain performance over the long run.
How big is the Rocket Espresso Bicocca?
The Bicocca measures 16 inches wide by 18.5 inches deep by 15.75 inches tall. It's compact relative to other commercial machines, but it's on the larger side for home use — and it's very heavy. Make sure you measure your counter space and consider cabinet clearance for the top-fill reservoir before purchasing.
