Eureka's Atom is a longstanding espresso grinder that performs excellently whether in a home or commercial setting. The Atom W 65 and 75 are updated versions of this modern classic. Are they worthy successors to the Atom name? Let's find out!
The Basics
The Atom W 65 and 75 are virtually the same grinder, one just has a 10 mm larger burr set. Larger burrs can allow you to grind a bit faster and more consistently, but features wise these two grinders are functionally identical.
The Atom W features a stepless grind adjust for near infinite grind settings, weighted dosing, and a vibrant, easy to use screen for controlling the grind amount. We have found the weighted dosing to be very accurate, and its .1 gram adjustment levels allow you to get very precise with your dosing. With three programmable doses and a continuous grind mode you can very easily pull the exact amount of coffee you need. The Atom W even allows for hands-free grinding.
Grind Performance
The flat steel burrs in these grinders make short and consistent work of your beans. You'll be pretty hard pressed to find grinders with better espresso performance, as these top of the line machines really do produce perfect grounds. Even better - they do it quietly thanks to Eureka's Silent Grind Technology.
From a speed perspective, the Atom W 65 grinds 2-3 grams per second, while the 75 grinds 3-4 grams per second. This means that regardless of the size of your shot you'll likely be pulling the grounds for it in just a few seconds.
Who Are They For?
The Eureka Atom W 65 and 75 espresso grinders are definitely designed for commercial settings and heavy enthusiast use. Their price tags are quite high, and as such it's hard for us to recommend them to a casual user. If you aren't brewing at least a couple of espresso shots per day you likely won't be leveraging the speed and precision of these grinders.
That said, if you are either shopping for a commercial setting or an at home coffee enthusiast that makes a lot of espresso, there's really no better option than the Eureka Atom Ws. They are expensive options, but their consistency, ease of dosing, and physical design and construction are top notch and hard to beat.
