FAQs
Look for programmable brewing, an easy-to-access water reservoir, clear controls, and a removable filter basket. A brew-complete indicator lets you know when coffee is ready, while a separate carafe makes serving at the table convenient. Choose features that fit how you like to host.
A thermal carafe uses insulated walls to hold heat without a warming plate, making it convenient for serving away from the coffee maker. A glass carafe typically rests on a warming plate and lets you see the coffee inside. Check the coffee maker’s instructions for its warming settings and automatic shutoff details.
Clean the carafe and filter basket, check whether the machine needs descaling, and set out compatible filters before guests arrive. If your coffee maker has a programmable timer, follow its setup instructions. For freshly ground coffee, keep your grinder nearby and grind the beans just before brewing.
Use clearly labeled serving carafes for regular and decaf coffee. If you use one drip coffee maker for both, empty the filter basket and rinse the basket and carafe between batches. Keep the coffee bags labeled, too, so anyone helping with brewing can tell them apart.
Discard used grounds and wash the carafe, filter basket, and other removable parts according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Wipe away coffee splashes and leave cleaned components open to dry. If the machine indicates that descaling is due, use the recommended descaling product and complete the required rinse cycles.
