I bought my Hario Buono from SCG in January 2015. Mine is stamped “made in Japan” on the bottom, and I understand new ones are Chinese. Our kettle sees heavy use. As it has permanent residency on our gas stovetop, it gets dirty. Home remedies with baking soda and water or vinegar have not worked, but what has worked on the exterior is oven cleaner and steel wool when needed. Once a month I will descale the inside with a 50/50 vinegar water mix for a few hours.When mine was new, I enlarged on of the steam holes in the lid to accept a thermometer probe. This comes in handy once in a while if I’m making a delicate tea. However, I can easily hear when the kettle is ready for brewing coffee.

I was a little disappointed initially when this kettle arrived as I expected it to be a bit more robust given the price. However, I've used it for a month and love it! It doesn't need to be anything more than it is. It's simple and does what it needs to do, and it's fun to use. It pours so well that I look forward to using it! I like that's it's on the smaller side for space too. Water boils quickly, and it holds enough for 2-3 people to make coffee or tea. There's no whistle, but the lid pops up (or off if it's full) when it's boiling. Bonus that it makes a great watering can for plants too! It won me over despite my initial impressions. Worth it!

Made in Japan! Absolutely love how it looks and how it pours. Every last drop of water pours out due to the low placement of the spout. Love, love, love this!

This Hario Buono kettle makes pour over coffee making a breeze! The brushed stainless exterior looks great on the stove. I had another Japanese branded kettle ( not sold here on Seattle Coffee Gear!) that was similar to this one, but had a bad leak at the base of the spout. And it got dirty quick on my gas range. Not the Hario! Cleans with ease using Cameo SS cleaner. Gets the water pipping hot for coffee quick! Very well made and is a must for pour over fans, esp if you are a V60 geek as well!

I originally purchased a $150 electronic kettle (no name). It died the second I had it. My main concern is that I wanter a 1.2 liter (40 oz) kettle. The one I purchased had several options on it. After much thinking I decided they were options I did not need and decided I did not want. I wanted a quality kettle I could put on my stove and bring my water up to about 205º. So, I bought the Hario Buono Coffee Drip Kettle. It is stainless steel, very well made and under $100. It holds 40oz of water and while I am getting my Chemex pot ready the water is almost as hot as I want it. The handle as well as the the lid handle are well insulated so, all I have to do is remove the lid and insert an insta read thermometer. Its spout design is perfect for a pour over pot. And for $53 it is more than I need. So if you are not interested in all of the things an electronic pot can provide this is a keeper. In addition this is made in Japan and not China

I am a beginner to pour over coffees. I bought this kettle to use with my new Kalita Wave set to do pour overs to use on our coffee truck. The precision of the spout helps a ton with control of the water flow, so I can get a nice and even extraction. I am very happy with my purchase!

Bought it for my daughter who loves it along with the marching ceramic filter holder and carafe.

Really enjoy this kettle. It heats quickly and I feel I have good control over the pour. One improvement I'd love to see is changing the handle material as the handle can get hot.

Arrived in a timely manner and in good condition! I had to wash it a couple extra times to get rid of the metallic odor, but I'm quite pleased with it after just one week of use.

I don't think I have ever felt this way about a kettle before. It heats quickly and pours where you need it to pour water, as in not on the counter. Its primarily for the pour over coffee. But my husband used it for instant oatmeal recently. He asked if we had a new brand as it was SO much creamier. It was not a new brand. Its the kettle! I'm telling you!

Most things I research and buy make little or difference in my real life, but this does. The goose neck kettle makes it easier to accurately pour water into my Kalita pour over dripper. I also like that the kettle does not whistle and wake up my family if I'm not near the pot when it boils. Quality is also top notch. I have not found better prices than SCG, and their selection and reviews/information are excellent. Highly recommended.

I love this kettle because of the control I have and I do not scorch my hand when pouring. I wish there was a larger version of this.

I use this kettle at work (coffee shop in Seattle area). We have both this and the Bonavita variable temp kettle. Despite not having a variable temp base, this is a superior product (as we have come to expect from Hario). The control it gives you over your pour is second to none. Highly recommend!

This is the best kettle I have found for pour over methods. It allows for the most control out of any hand pour I've seen/tried. You can place the water right where you need it and in the exact quantity desired. I know you might be tempted to go with the Bonavita at half the price, but the quality of this product will impress you. I once accidentally left it on the stove, boiling, for over an hour -- finally remembered to check on it, thinking it would be damaged by the heat, no marks or anything and I still made a great cup of coffee. You WON'T be disappointed.

No fault of SCG, they sell the Buono cheaper than anyone on the net. This tool is a must have for controlling your pour - engineering magic. However, somewhere someone is laughing all the way to the bank.

I purchased this item mainly to use with a newly-acquired manual pour-over cone (porcelain). The pin-point accuracy of the spout is a must for this and works perfectly well. The steel construction of this kettle is quite thin, but certainly substantial and adequate for heating the water. I feel that it was a good purchase, and SCG has the lowest price. By the way, a local gourmet foods store where I live had this kettle on "sale" for $75!! Yeah, right!

I wanted better control for the pour over with my Chemex, this kettle definitely provides that. It doesn't whistle when it reaches a boil, but that's fine by me. It is relatively small, you can boil a liter of water but it will start to spit out of the spout a little. The base is fairly small as well, so larger burners on high heat will create flames that reach up the sides of the kettle (which will discolor the kettle). Adjusting the burners so that flames don't lick up the sides results in a slower boil, but the extra pour control is worth it.

Been wanting this kettle for more control in pour over brewing. It works perfectly. Seattle Gear's site is the best deal on the internet for the kettle. I've read not to heat water in it on the stove top, but I have been (keeping the flame from going up the sides of the kettle) and have had no problems or discoloration.
