I have had it for a week. I've been testing it between my Bonavita drip machine and the Miss Silvia. Grinds great for both machines and anything in between. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because that "machine must be running to change the grind setting" thing that Gail addresses in the video really is kind of frustrating. Taking the lid off helps. I realize that it's probably an effort to keep the workings as minimal as possible, and maintain the quality indexing, but it is a drawback. Otherwise I love this machine!!

I’m a bit disappointed. The Rocky is well-built, beautiful, but with a few shortcomings: a lot of retention (sometimes as much as 1 gram), coffee beans get stuck in the slots that hold the burr cap, adjusting the grind setting requires a bit of hand gymnastics to turn on the grinder while simultaneously pushing in the hopper tab lock and turning the hopper to desired setting. These issues might be a dealbreaker for some.

It works just like I wished it would. It produces great ground coffee for my coffee press. No hassles and is not too loud.

Pots of coffee all day here, and we all want fresh ground, pleasant beans. After a few cheap capressos that lasted 3 months... Well, the RR is a champ. Easy to clean, consistent, easy lovin’. Good choice people.

We had been using a cheap little steel blade grinder so this was a HUGE improvement for us. The coffee is now consistent flavor wise and we eventually want to purchase an espresso machine so this will allow us the best of both worlds. Packaged very well and very pleased with Seattle Coffee Gear.

Definitely a heavy duty grinder. I am replacing a Baratza Encore with this and can actually tell a difference in coffee richness (I would have never believed it before; always figured the big fuss over “quality” grinders was mostly marketing hype). The only criticism I have is that it does retain a fair amount of grounds in the burrs after grinding. I have to tap on it and run the motor a couple of seconds to get the last gram out. Other than that I love it. I can grind for my drip pot, pour overs, Moka pot, and espresso maker all from one grinder.

Quiet and consistent, easy on the wallet. Space saver with high end results. Easy to set.

The Rancillio is a no nonsense grinder that experienced coffee drinkers will love. It grinders quickly and efficiently. It is relatively quiet. You must hold the button to grind which takes time when grinding enough for a whole lot of coffee. Only coffee beans are sometimes reluctant to slide down the chute. You just need to poke a bit to get them to go.

I bought this cause I’m a beginner with espresso. I like the Rocky cause of its wide range of grind size and ease of use. Also because it’s made of metal instead of plastic. I did get the doserless version and I wish I got the doser version. The doserless version is a bit messy. I tried to grind with the portafilter holder in place and the coffee gets all over the place. I ended up taking the holder off and just holding the portafilter under the spout and it works much better.

We've had our Rocky grinder now for ~11 years. We use it every single day and love it. It has worked flawlessly for espresso, pour over and drip grinding. I clean it every year or so and have replaced the burrs 3 times now - both of which are very easy to do. The easy to read and adjust grind setting makes it a snap to dial in your pull times on espresso or jump back and forth from espresso to a French press.

I love this grinder but... This is a replacement for the first one that broke. Lesson learned: once you set the grind you really can't adjust it without taking the whole thing apart and cleaning it out thoroughly.

I read through the 1 star and 2 star reviews and didn't see anyone dramatizing their experience, so read those reviews because those people are being real about their experience. I bought my Rocky in 2005, have replaced the burrs once, so obviously i have not been using other grinders that i could compare to. 20 years of daily use folks, that's what you get here. Yes, you have to hold the button to grind, yes the oily beans get stuck and are difficult to deal with, yes it will wake the whole house up in the am, yes it is a messy girl. But every am I wake up I know this machine will not complain, it will not break, it will produce just like it has for the last 20 YEARS! I also have the older version of the Silvia, for 20 years.

My mew Rancilio grinder works well but I have a little trouble dialing it in with my beans. Even though the increments arr small between settings its still not right when it comes to flow rste. I wish I was able to adjust grind settings freely without a sprcifiv setting. Respectfully Ron G.

The Rocky works pretty well as a versatile espresso/pour-over grinder, but I think that it's probably best for non espresso coffee. Compared to newer grinders the Rocky is limited to around five or six espresso grinding settings, which isn't enough given the variables in coffee beans. It will work for espresso if you're patient and dial in the correct fine grind settings, though.

Unfortunately there was a defect and I had to return it.

I bought this 10 years ago from SCG. It's been used daily for pour overs and is still as good as the day I got it.

Loving this grinder!

I am an amateur. Love coffee but not a snob. Love the rancilio rocky. I was sick of cheap plastic grinders with static electric fines flying all over the kitchen. I was seeking a grinder that was the white whale of a full range grinder. The SCG Rep said this was the closest if find. On setting 4 or 5 I get beautiful espresso. It's not clogging though I do tend to avoid very oily looking roasts.

When I put the cup as I grind the coffee splatter around, do you have any container to catch the coffee to avoid splatter ing

I hate this machine. Even set at zero the Rocky cannot consistently grind fine enough for light roast espresso. "Just calibrate it," you say. Yeah, I've done that multiple times. It drifts.It retains a crazy amount of grinds. Routinely 1-2 grams. You have to hold the button down to keep it grinding. Just use a switch! I've given it two stars instead of one because it can admirably grind for drip. You can absolutely buy a better grinder for the money for drip, though.

The first shipment had a defect -- it did not lock for coarse/fine selection. It took quite bit effort to get a replacement. The replacement worked fine at its arrival, but coffee beans clogs the machine sometimes.

All coffee retailers tell you to spend the first dollar on the grinder. It has been six years and had not failed me yet. I recently upgraded my espresso machine. Oh, the improved favor! Best money spent.
