Do you use a tamper with a pressurized portafilter? If so - do you know the size tamper I need for a via venezia machine
Laure T on Apr 15, 2015
Best Answer: You do not need to use a tamper with a pressurized portafilter. If you decide to upgrade to a non-pressurized portafilter for the Via Venezia, then you would use a 53mm tamper.

I bought this 53mm tamper to use with my new Seco Venezia machine. I use it with the pressurized portafilter, with dramatic improvement of flavor over not tamping. Pressurized portofilter or not seems a moot point.
Don't worry about the perfect tamping pressure: just lean into it. (Posted on 6/16/2014)

Nice balanced tamper. It is a heavier weight than I expected at this price. (Posted on 3/2/2014)

Converted my pressurized portafilter to non-pressurized in my older Starbucks Barista machine, this tamper fits perfectly in the stock portafilter. I'm able to gauge my tamp very well and get almost no grounds stuck to the bottom after tamping. Even better, the brushed metal & rubber grip make me look like a pro.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Commercial Grade

Like most new machine owners, you use the supplied tamper with weak results. Pony up the money and get a respectable tamper (consider how much you already spent on a good machine). You will not regret it. Reliable results every time.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Price performance fit, Commercial Grade

This seems to be a good fit for our Ascaso basic, but I don't know I would be able to tell a 1mm difference! The tamper has a nice heavy weight, and although I don't have the experience or expertise of using the more expensive tampers, I do not understand the need to pay more. I have small hands and the short handle works for me, as well as my 6'3" boyfriend, since you tamp at an angle I feel like I get good leverage.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean

Solid feel to this. It is quite heavy, and for the price, pretty good. The quality is nice and unless you want to go overboard, this really does get the job done.

I added this to my order as an impulse purchase (I was buying a knockbox). I was using the tamper that came with my Silvia, and I was happy with it. So I bought this thinking it would be a frivolous vanity purchase. But I was wrong. It is a great addition to my setup. As mentioned in another review, the 58 mm size fits perfectly in the silvia portafilter. I get a better cup of coffee with this thing. I'm serious. And I am not a coffee snob. It is well worth the money.

The Rattleware stainless steel tamper is a great mate for my Rancilio Silvia. Its 58mm size fits the portafilter perfectly and the plastic handle fits the hand well. The Rattleware tamper is more about performance than pretty. However it has a nice finish with a well polished tamping surface. I would definitely purchase another one of these but I can't imagine this tamper ever wearing out or breaking. Plenty of bang for the buck!

Nice hefty size for larger hands. Short handle means it fits on top of my machine without hitting the cabinet above. Also, because of the short handle, it doesn't suddenly twist sideways if you don't press exactly straight down on it. Nice polish leaves a smooth top on the grounds.

Pros:
Easy To Use, Easy To Clean, Commercial Grade

Cons:
